Chapter 373: 214 Reward: Golden Winged Peng (Second update! Please subscribe! Please vote monthly!)
Legends say that this bird lives atop a massive iron tree, feasting on dragons.
Of course, dining on dragons is an exaggeration.
Would a True Dragon even let itself be eaten by a Golden Winged Great Peng?
I’m afraid it would be more likely that the eater becomes the eaten.
At best, it could manage to eat a Jiaolong, a lesser dragon-type creature.
Encounter a True Dragon, and under the might of its claws, not a feather on the bird would remain!
In some mythological stories, the Golden Winged Peng is the uncle of Tathagata from the Buddhist Sect.
It is said that both the Roc and the peacock are born from a phoenix.
Once, the peacock even swallowed Tathagata whole. When Tathagata burst out of the peacock’s back, he intended to take its life. However, the assembly of Buddhas thought it would be equivalent to harming one’s own mother.
Eventually, the peacock was revered as the Buddhist mother, and hence the Great Peng, being related to the peacock, was, in a manner of speaking, Tathagata’s uncle.
In Journey to the West, the Roc is quite formidable.
It had stolen away to the lower realm to become a demon, bringing along the Green Lion and White Elephant as his ox-headed and horse-faced brothers. They occupied both Lion Camel Country and Lion Camel Ridge for hundreds of years.
Devouring the country’s king, his officials, and the citizens, they attracted a group of demons and turned the once peaceful Lion Camel Country into a Demon Country.
Even when faced with the F4 of the pilgrimage later on, it showed no fear.
Trapping Sun Wukong with the Flask of Yin and Yang Essence, nearly driving the Monkey King into a state of seclusion.
Tears in his eyes, Sun Wukong was trapped in the flask. Without Guanyin’s gift of the Three Life-saving Hairs, the monkey would almost certainly have perished there.
What do you think?
