LOWKEY INTERSTELLER CAPTAIN

Chapter 20: Seeds of Rebellion

A Fractured Empire

The Empire stood on the precipice of change, though few recognized the brewing storm. In the high towers of the Imperial Palace, ministers and warlords played their endless games of power, shifting alliances and betraying old oaths to secure dominance. In the grand halls of the military, young soldiers were trained to be weapons, their fates bound to the will of the aristocracy.

But in the shadows, away from the watchful eyes of the nobles, something else was stirring.

Cheno Bo had made his decision. He would not be another pawn in the Empire’s vast chessboard. His family had been shattered by the very system that claimed to uphold order and justice. The nobility had feared their power, their influence, and their strength. And for that, they had been wiped out.

But not completely.

A Gathering of Allies

In the weeks following his fateful meeting with Captain Orin, Cheno had quietly begun building his network. Orin’s men were the first, old veterans who had once served his father. They were loyal, disciplined, and skilled in battle. But they were not enough.

Cheno needed more.

Using the System’s stealth capabilities, he accessed restricted military files, uncovering names—disgruntled officers, disillusioned cadets, and ambitious individuals who had been cast aside by the nobility despite their talent. He sent them encrypted messages, coded transmissions hidden within harmless data streams. Some ignored them, others responded with skepticism, but a few saw what he saw—a chance for something greater.

One by one, they pledged their allegiance.

As Cheno gathered his forces, Xian Ren continued his schemes, unaware that his rival was laying the foundation for a movement that would shake the Empire to its core.

The Unveiling of Void Sovereign

Late one night, deep within the restricted sectors of the Imperial Academy, Cheno activated a hidden access point within his neural interface.

[System Notification: Void Sovereign Fragment Detected. Distance: 8,000 kilometers. Status: Concealed.]

Another piece of the puzzle.

Unlike conventional warships, the Void Sovereign did not need a docking station or a visible presence. It existed in a state of concealment, hidden from all known detection technologies. Every recovered fragment teleported directly to its location, merging seamlessly with the main structure. And with each piece recovered, the dormant battleship inched closer to awakening.

[Binding Progress: 67%. Additional resources required for full activation.]

Cheno clenched his fist. He was getting closer, but time was not on his side. The moment the Void Sovereign reached full capacity, it would change everything. But for now, he had to remain in the shadows, carefully maneuvering through the Empire’s watchful gaze.

The Betrayal Deepens

Aeliana had once been his lover, or so he had believed. Now, she was a reminder of the corruption that ran deep within the Empire. She had chosen Xian Ren, seeking to elevate her status from a Tier 2 noble to a Tier 1, aligning herself with those who had orchestrated the destruction of his family.

It was during an Academy gathering, a grand banquet held in honor of the upcoming graduation, that their paths crossed again.

She stood beside Xian Ren, her hand lightly resting on his arm, her smile carefully measured. When she met Cheno’s gaze, there was no trace of the affection they had once shared—only cold calculation.

“Cheno,” she said, her voice smooth, as if their past had never mattered. “You should learn to let go. The past is gone. There’s no changing it.”

Xian Ren smirked beside her, his arrogance ever-present. “Indeed, some of us understand how to adapt. It’s what separates the strong from the weak.”

Cheno remained silent for a long moment before responding, his voice calm but firm. “You mistake adaptation for submission. I will never kneel.”

Xian Ren chuckled. “Then you’ll be crushed underfoot.”

As the banquet continued, Cheno knew that this was only the beginning. His enemies believed him to be defeated, a relic of a fallen house. They had no idea what was coming.

Empire’s Watchful Eyes

While Cheno built his secret network, the political landscape of the Empire continued to shift. Powerful warlords and aristocrats vied for control; their rivalries hidden beneath layers of diplomacy.

Among them, a name carried whispers of fear—Grand Admiral Valen Drex, one of the most ruthless enforcers of the Empire. He had been instrumental in the downfall of powerful noble families, ensuring that those who defied the ruling class were erased from history.

Unknown to Cheno, his actions had already drawn Valen’s attention.

“Monitor him,” the Admiral ordered, his voice cold. “If he becomes a threat, we will eliminate him.”

The hunt had begun.

The Path Forward

As the days passed, graduation loomed closer. Cheno’s preparations accelerated. He refined his combat techniques, expanded his network, and continued securing Void Sovereign’s fragments.

His enemies believed him powerless. His allies saw him as a future leader. And the Empire? They had no idea what was about to be unleashed.

When the day of graduation arrived, it would not just be a ceremony.

It would be the beginning of a revolution.
