Liberation
After running for who knows how long Rex was tired; he was hurt, lungs screaming for rest, his throat as dry as it could be, his legs quivering in agony and ache for him to stop. However, the thoughts of what awaited him in the Godforsaken place he called home for the past 7 years kept him going.
He wanted nothing more than this torment to end, but such a fate would be too merciful for someone like him. A bastard that had no place in the Reguim, however set aside from the sounds of soldiers trampling the forest behind him, he had heard a whisper. Unlike one he had never heard before reaching out to him like a cradle. Such a gentle and caring voice he thought to himself. As if he could feel the warmth of the stars behind it.
“Come”
And so he did. After all, who knows how much longer he would be able to survive by just reaching out into nothingness. Using his last bit of strength, Rex pushed himself past what his broken body should have allowed. Then it happened, he reached a point where he couldn't muster power into his legs anymore; in that moment he crawled, using only the desperation in his heart to keep him going. Even if Rex was unsure of what laid behind the voice calling out to him, he crawled. In a moment such as his own it was a beacon of hope, a cradle.
And then he saw it. A light unlike no other shining in the forest of darkness. His crawl had been slow, unlike when he was running and he could escape the soldiers trailing him, he was vulnerable. That was when the worst of his fears came true, he had heard the sound of rustling closer than ever before in the depths of the woods.
“Come, accept me child” The voice echoed louder.
In that moment Rex wavered, unsure of what to do he froze. That was until he had heard them again. Although Rex had poured every last bit of energy and willpower into getting away, the soldiers were closer than ever before.
Stuck between accepting the voice of light in front of him and getting caught he froze. However, such a thing only lasted for a moment before deciding on accepting the thing in front of him. More than anything in the world Rex would always choose getting revenge on those he had called family. For his entire life of betrayal and abandonment was forced onto him by something he couldn’t control.
“There he is!”
“The boy is over there”
With pain burning through him, Rex thrust his hand toward the light — the only thing left that wasn’t trying to kill him. Rex shuddered, reaching out his hand even farther; only encompassing more pain as the soldiers outreached their spears towards him. Rex was impaled, feeling a wave of agony wash over him, however he did not stop he continued to outstretch his hand. He struggled to reach out into the warmth he had felt so strongly, his world washed over with pain and dim lights.
Then it happened. He had reached the light and his world was surrounded in a pure tapestry of stars.. A single sentence resounded throughout his head.
“The goddess of liberation welcomes you”
What do you think?
