Chapter 313: The Clue Found by Reesi
"Fuck!"
As Luo An's words dropped, Reesi immediately let out several exclamatory interjections on the other end of the phone, then asked with an excited and shocked face:
"Luo An! You're really a god! How did you guess they were really here?!"
Hearing Reesi say she really found something, Luo An also slightly relaxed, smiling as he explained:
"A guess. Just used a little process of elimination."
"You're so fucking smart!"
Reesi on the other end of the phone crazily praised Luo An. Luo An wore a slight smile on his face, signaling Reesi to keep talking, not to stop.
"..."
Holding the phone, Reesi rolled her eyes upon hearing that, looked at the object in her hand, and asked:
"This is a hard drive, what should I do next?"
"Go buy a laptop, import the contents to the computer, and then leave the computer in a store in South Los Angeles."
Luo An pondered for a moment, gave the name of a store, stating he would be there in an hour, and added at the end:
"Afterward, you take the hard drive and find a concealed place to rest for a while. Don't answer anyone who tries to contact you, except for me, OK?"
"No problem!"
For Reesi, who came from the intelligence department, disguising her identity and evading, hiding were her basic skills, so she agreed without hesitation.
Hanging up the phone, Luo An plopped down on the living room sofa to rest with his eyes closed, silently thinking about what to do next.
To put it bluntly, Group Leader Owen's assassination case was the most challenging one Luo An had encountered in this world since his arrival.
With previous cases, if he couldn't resolve them, Luo An still had the option to pass the case to someone else.
But with this case, the other party dared to send someone to kill the head of the investigation team, was able to use the FBI's Monitoring Department reasonably, and could even send people to his own house to hide contraband...
"Interesting, really interesting."
After pondering for a while, Luo An smirked, got up to go to the kitchen, opened the fridge to take out several large pieces of steak and started cooking.
The puppeteer's first wave of framing him was pushed back, but as time went on, the possibility of the puppeteer desperately lashing out and directly attacking him couldn't be dismissed.
Faced with the potential battle ahead, Luo An decided to fill his stomach first.
There were still a few bottles of the physical enhancement potion, but he needed to save them for now, as Luo An didn't know exactly what could happen next.
Forty minutes later, after cooking the steak, Luo An ate three pieces himself, brought one for Mona and Michelle each as dinner, then left the apartment and drove away.
On the way, Luo An parked his car next to a large shopping mall and went inside.
Using his assassin skills and his previous experience visiting this place, he changed his attire and, hiding in a corner, Luo An spotted two Monitoring Department agents trailing him. With a sneer, he left via another route towards the store he had told Reesi about earlier.
Picking up the computer at the arranged spot, Luo An did not go back to that large shopping mall. Instead, he took a roundabout way to a street, double-checked to make sure no one was following him, and then casually hailed a taxi to head to the FBI building in Los Angeles.
From a distance at the large shopping mall, two Monitoring Department agents were still desperately searching and waiting for Luo An...
————
Special Investigation Team, Office Area, 5:30 PM.
"Here are the steaks for you."
Luo An, dressed back in his suit, pushed the door open, handed two pieces of steak to Mona and Michelle, then smiled at Michelle saying:
"I made them myself, see how they taste?"
"Thank you."
Michelle took the steak, opened the box, and upon smelling the fragrant aroma, looked up in surprise and said:
"I never expected Group Leader Luo An to also be able to cook, and your culinary skills are quite good."
"It's nothing; if you're used to eating it, that's fine. I incorporated some Eastern methods."
Luo An chuckled and reached for the teacup on the table to drink, while Mona beside him ate her steak, and handed over a folder, mumbling unclearly:
"The forensic report is out, they say your sneakers have not been to the land near Pearson's house."
"Mm."
Luo An took the folder without looking, it was expected.
Michelle took a bite of the steak, the taste traditional yet novel and very delicious, which caused her eyebrows to raise. After swallowing the steak in her mouth, she asked:
"Is Yurik in the interrogation room now, should we interrogate him later?"
"No need for the moment, just keep him locked up."
Luo An waved his hand, refusing the suggestion to interrogate and provide dinner to the suspect, skipping one meal won't starve him.
Then he pulled Mona and Michelle into the group leader's office, handed over his own laptop to Mona with a serious face:
"This is the clue that I asked Reesi to find, you sort it out."
"???"
Mona took the laptop with a slight stun, her pupils contracted sharply when she saw the content inside:
"These are... these are the cases investigated by Group Leader Owen and Pearson, and the clues they organized about that case?! Where did you have Reesi find them?"
Not only was Mona shocked, but Michelle also looked at Luo An with a face full of surprise, even forgetting to continue chewing the steak in her mouth.
"In a place we overlooked."
Luo An brewed himself a cup of new tea and showed a calm smile to both of them.
As previously said, someone like Group Leader Owen with such meticulous thoughts would definitely hide the clues of his secret case investigation.
But there was nothing in his home, nothing in the office; Group Leader Owen also had no other women outside, and he did not rent a safety deposit box at the bank.
Luo An considered all possibilities and only thought of one place that they had previously discovered but then disregarded:
That car with its front windshield shot by a gunman, which Group Leader Owen later paid for to repair himself.
"What?"
"In the car?"
Hearing Luo An's words, Mona and Michelle were first shocked and then fully realized, slapping their own heads together.
Yes, that car indeed was the safest place.
The mastermind behind the scenes wouldn't think of this because they had someone shoot the car to warn Group Leader Owen.
The Special Investigation Team that came to investigate Owen's life before his death would also overlook the car, because they would only focus on the fact that Owen had been threatened with a shooting before his death.
"Group Leader Owen truly deserves to be a veteran who spent over a decade at the FBI."
Mona and Michelle felt very emotional about this, then looked at Luo An with great admiration.
"This matter has been tough on Reesi."
Luo An waved his hand, Reesi had made a significant effort.
Because Reesi had to stealthily enter the car without alarming and without drawing attention from the Monitoring Department, the second investigation team, and other agents onlookers, searching for a piece of unknown data, which was a very strenuous and difficult task.
Knowing that Luo An told Reesi to temporarily hide the original clues, Mona and Michelle said nothing; this was indeed most suitable for the current situation.
"Open the folder and take a look."
Luo An shook the teacup in his hand and nodded toward the laptop, Mona no longer wasted words, her fingers swiftly started typing on the keyboard.
Soon, a line of text appeared in front of the three people that made Mona and Michelle's faces turn extremely unpleasant, while Luo An revealed an expression of sudden realization.
What do you think?
