Chapter 206- Meditation’s Beginning Effects
Chapter 206- Meditation’s Beginning Effects
[Amaterasu POV]
Looking at Keeno sitting there meditating, I was ruminating on our argument. Thinking it over, I understood what Keeno meant, but I feel like she is going about it wrong. I, however am also at fault here since I phrased my side completely wrong. I hoped she would finish this meditation quickly so I could explain myself properly but then something happened. Keeno stayed in meditation posture, but our connection thinned and she slumped forward, the shining core in her chest pulsing with light between the normal blue and the gold of Divinity.
{Keeno!?}
[Keeno POV]
I woke up in a strange space. Everything was tinted in blue and frozen while heavy winds howled around me. It felt comfortable to me though to normal people it would freeze them near instantly, and if they didn’t, the wind felt sharp enough to cut. Above me was my sun, but extremely close to me, giant glaciers seemingly holding it up. On those glaciers, in the air around me, in the sky next to my sun, under my feet, everywhere you could see Runes glowed faintly.
“Where?” (Keeno)
I tried taking a step, but my body felt incredibly sluggish.
“I wouldn’t move if I were you. At least not until you are more in tune with yourself.”
A sunbeam shining through the ice in front of me became surrounded by Runes. The Runes glowed brightly until they formed into a ghostly version of me.
“Damn I’m hot.” (Keeno)
“Heh. I agree, though considering I am you, I’d just be agreeing with myself. Meh. Let’s get on to business so we don’t worry Ama anymore. I’m here, as a representation of your Divinities, to tell you to get your shit together. Even after training with *%+=> you’ve just stabilized your dragon core to use Divinity with mana. You haven’t done much more than basic control training for your Divinities.”
“Ama said-” (Keeno)
“She didn’t say to not practice with your Divinities, just not to go overboard in doing so. Also, that argument the two of you were having was dumb. And, I think deep, deep down, you don’t mean to go so far with that thought of remembering everything.”
This made me mad all over again.
“Wha-” (Keeno)
“Shh. No time, the longer this takes, the more panicked Ama will be, so let’s get on with it.”
In a flash, I was somehow sitting down in the same position I remembered.
“Now then, close your eyes and listen to my words.”
I did as my strange other self said and closed my eyes, not seeing any point in quipping back since Ama is more important.
“We’ll start with Sun.”
She said that, and I immediately felt a change in the surroundings. The cold was completely gone, and I felt like I was being submerged in lava. It was a nice, pleasantly warm feeling.
“Heat, life, death, light, hope, despair, warmth, these are just some of the things we, as one of the suns represent. If Ama is the morning, we are the evening, the sunset to her sunrise. Her light guides those out of shadows while ours lights the path to their resting place.”
Her words, though weirdly profound sounding, made so thing esoteric click inside me. The feeling of warmth transformed into a still extremely pleasant inferno.
“Now Death.”
The inferno around me seemed to flow inside me, resting right where my dragon core was. The cold then rushed over my body as the wind blew against me, freezing and unrelenting.
“The end, opposite of life, the primal fear, inevitability, the goal of all life, mortality’s greatest enemy. We are the end of one journey that prepares the soul for the next. We are the most relentless huntress and the most caring being. We grant release to all. We punish the wicked and embrace the innocent. Ease the pain of the suffering.”
The wind and ice seemed to slowly condense and begin to flow through me, finally settling next to the inferno from before.
“And finally, Runes.”
There was no physical feeling this time, but my head was starting to fill with information. Pictures of Runes I knew mixed with ones I didn’t.
“Runes. A new concept in this world. Condensed knowledge meant to enhance magic while magic enhances them in a perpetual cycle of improvement. An Oroborous. While you know them and their meanings, you struggle with their application. Mix some mana, some Divinity, and the right shapes and you can do whatever. But you forget, Runes are just a form of written language, they can also be spoken. Stop using them so sparingly.”
This was an epiphany to me. I HAD completely forgotten that this was the case. The feeling of this cemented itself in my mind as a sort of indescribable power settled next to the other two inside me.
“Now then, to put the finishing touches, so to say, in this.”
I heard echoey footsteps and felt the faint presence of that ghostly me sitting in front of me.
“Don’t panic when you feel this, it’s all part of the process.”
Before I could question what I meant, I felt my hands touch and then sink into my chest. It touched the metaphorical orbs surrounding my dragon core which sent shivers up and down my spine. I took the hot one and slowly merged it with my dragon core, causing the inferno to flow through my body. I felt it travel through me like blood, going to every part of me from my ears to my tails, and everywhere. I felt like, if I didn’t do something, I’d burn everything around me.
“Good, keep doing that, we don’t want to hurt our family.”
I made the inferno inside me intensify while I controlled that flow until there was a sort of equilibrium between the flow and the output from my core.
“Perfect. We’re moving onto Death now.”
The cold did the same as the inferno though instead of replacing the inferno, it flowed alongside it. It felt weird, but it didn’t change what I had to do. The difficulty in controlling both of these at the same time increased drastically. If felt like if I didn’t manage to get everything under control, I’d pop. After what felt like ages, I got used to the feeling of the energy flowing inside me.
“Ama taught us well. Now, I’d do the same for Runes, but that one could get us in trouble in the mortal world if we went too far, so we’ll leave it like it is for now. If we do this again at around eight tails it should be more acceptable. Do try to use the Runes you actually know for now, and don’t fully utilize the others you don’t. Especially the Death Runes or the Hive Runes. Those are only allowed after you ascend fully.”
I slowly nodded my head. I didn’t really get what I was saying, but there were some especially powerful, ominous Runes floating around in my head. If I had to describe them with colors, the Runes that were safe for me to use were gold while the supposed Death Runes were a foggy black and these weird Hive Runes were a pale, poisonous green. It was best to listen to what I was saying because I truly didn’t know just how far the effects of these Runes would go.
“Hmm. Heh. It’s almost time to wake up. When you open your eyes, don’t be surprised at what you see, and be careful, you don’t have a rope. Don’t want you to hang yourself like that paranoid one-eyed idiot.”
The voice of me started to fade. Opening my eyes, I saw her smile at me as she vanished. Looking around, I found myself in a completely different place than before. I was sitting in the branch of a tree so large that I couldn’t see the top, even from the branch I was sitting on. Looking down I couldn’t see the ground either through the lower branches. It made me a little dizzy at first, but I got used to it quickly. I was about to stand up when I heard some shaking. Looking at where it was coming from, the figure of a squirrel the size of a child appeared.
“Ah. Mistress. Hello there. Welcome.”
The squirrel came up to me and, in the twitchy way all squirrels moved, looked me over.
“Your energies. Stabilized. Good. Yggdrasil will grow more now. Must go now. Branches need tending.”
The squirrel then jumped up and started acrobatically moving up towards the top of the tree.
“Well that was interesting. Not what I thought Ratatoskr would be like.”
Letting my wings appear I leapt from my branch and glided down. It felt like an hour passed before I actually saw the ground and two more just to reach it. When I did, I found Geri and Freki running around in a panic. Their words were just jumbled messes with no actual meaning but that all stopped when I landed next to them.
““MASTER!!!!”” (Both)
They tackled me to the ground with a hug.
“Master, hurry and go back!” (Geri)
“Mistress Amaterasu is worried and it’s affecting the weather!” (Freki)
“How do I do that?” (Keeno)
“Focus on going back and you’ll go woosh!” (Freki)
“Mmhmm!” (Geri)
I closed my eyes and thought about returning. I suddenly felt really light and floaty. My vision blacked out and when it came back I was back to the dark temple.
{KEENO!!!!!!}
Ama’s voice carried a physical weight that pushed me down.
{Keeno! What happened!? Are you hurt!? Don’t do that again!? Don’t leave me like that again!!}
She was crying so hard that it hurt my soul.
“Ama, don’t worry. I’m back.” (Keeno)
{Please, tell me nothing happened. Why did you seemingly die on me?}
“My Divinity pulled my consciousness in and wouldn’t let me go. But everything is better now.” (Keeno)
She was still breathing erratically but I could tell she was calming down.
{Keeno.}
“Hmm?” (Keeno)
{I’m sorry.}
“You did nothing to be sorry about.” (Keeno)
{…}
“I’d hug you if I could right now, but I can’t. Just know that it’s alright.” (Keeno)
{Mm.}
I laid there, hoping that I could somehow comfort Ama, but the limitations of our situation made it very hard to comfort her.
{Keeno.}
“Hmm?” (Keeno)
{Hug me lots next time we see each other.}
“Alright.” (Keeno)
