Kiss Me if You Can

Vol. 2 Ch. 24

"Josh, get up right now!"

The voice of Emma, full of force, came through the door late in the afternoon the following day. It was the weekend, and Josh had stayed in bed until nearly noon.

I should call Rita.

He thought about his girlfriend, but his body felt heavy. He had hoped that a night of rest would fix things, but the lethargy and weakness weighing him down hadn't disappeared. It almost felt like he was running a fever, and occasionally, his breath would become labored. The events of the previous day had been shocking, but it was strange to feel this exhausted from just that.

Had all the stress finally caught up with him?

Thinking about how stress could harm his body, Josh lay in bed, feeling more exhausted than he ever had before. He felt like his mouth was dry.

I should get some water...

"Ugh," he muttered, burying his face back in the pillow. But then he heard footsteps approaching from outside, up the stairs, gradually getting closer. Not moving an inch, he waited as the footsteps reached the door and then the door opened.

"Josh, get out now!"
