Mihyang had grown old, and so had she. But Mihyang would continue to exert her influence over Hankeong through her son, Seungwoon—unlike her, who could be replaced at any moment.

The end was approaching.

The only consolation was that Seungwoon was the way he was.

There was no need to negotiate with subordinates. They didn’t require proposals—they needed orders. A person who didn’t even know how to hold a leash could never establish a hierarchy.

“So, when will you grant my request?”

At Seungwoon’s question, Chief Kim gave a faint smile as she replied.

“It takes time to track movements and create an opportunity. Once you formally take your director's seat and smoothly marry Jang Sera, we’ll set a date.”

Seungwoon let out a dry laugh, shaking his head. He was laughing at the absurdity of it all—how everything was still, ultimately, for the sake of Hankeong and Mihyang.

Why did people believe loyalty would last forever? In a world where nothing stayed the same?

“I’ll receive the financial briefing next Monday. Get some rest for now, Young Master. The general meeting is coming up soon.”

With a slight nod, Chief Kim turned to leave. Her wrinkled eyes curved briefly as she disappeared into the darkness.

Junyoung sighed, rubbing the stiffness from the back of her neck. The teammates she had originally worked with had already wrapped up their tasks and left for the day.

She had received the materials from the PR team for distribution to the media, but they were completely unusable as they were. Myeongin Ilbo had agreed to cooperate but asked for data that would highlight Na Seungwoon more prominently. Because of that, Junyoung was now combing through Hankeong’s financial records from the past few years, compiled by the Business Planning Team.

“I specialize in precise analysis, not inflating results.”

She muttered absentmindedly through gritted teeth before realizing someone was approaching. Looking up, she saw Manager Im walking toward her, his eyes weary.

“Do you have the report?”

“I’ve managed to put this much together. Do you think any further revisions are necessary?”
