Chapter 14: We Must Stand United!
“Stand united…”
Bai Ruoxi, initially confused by Mu Zhi’an’s words, suddenly understood. Her eyes lit up.
If they could unite against a common enemy, eliminate the black-robed man… it would buy the Bai family some time.
It wouldn’t solve the root of their problems, but right now, the Bai family desperately needed a chance to breathe.
She looked at Mu Zhi’an, her eyes filled with a mix of gratitude and curiosity.
He had decided to help them… He hadn’t received anything in return, yet he was still willing to lend a hand.
“Thank you,” she murmured, her voice filled with sincerity.
Moments later, Wei Mengrou, having finished implanting suggestions into the minds of the servants, joined them.
“Thank you for your hard work, Mengrou,” Mu Zhi’an said with a smile.
“If you know I work hard, then stop causing trouble,” Wei Mengrou replied, her tone still cool and aloof. However, her gaze softened slightly. “But you did well this time.”She’d assumed the pleasure-obsessed Mu Zhi’an was a lost cause, but he’d changed so much recently. It was almost unbelievable.
Mu Zhi’an shook his head. “Anyone would have done the same in that situation.”
“You’re being too modest, Young Master Mu,” Bai Ruoxi said softly. “If it had been an ordinary bully, perhaps someone would have intervened. But that was Gongsun Zan.”
The Gongsun family was one of the most powerful clans in Tianxuan City. Even if they witnessed Gongsun Zan’s cruelty, few would dare to challenge him.
The weak feared retribution, while the strong didn’t want to make an enemy of the Gongsun family over such a trivial matter.
Only someone like Mu Zhi’an would have dared to stand up to him.
“What’s the plan now?” Wei Mengrou asked Mu Zhi’an.
“Same as before.”
Mu Zhi’an looked at her, a gentle smile on his face. “Let the bullet fly for a while.”
…
Ye Yu paced anxiously outside the manor, his frustration growing with each passing moment.
He’d been waiting outside for what felt like an eternity. He’d considered barging in several times, but he worried about causing unnecessary conflict.
He had regained his talent, but he was still only at Qi Condensation. While he possessed hidden trump cards that could allow him to challenge even Foundation Establishment cultivators, it was best not to reveal his true strength prematurely.
Torn between his desire to intervene and his need for caution, he had remained outside, waiting for his childhood sweetheart to emerge.
But nearly half an hour had passed, and his patience was wearing thin. He was starting to wonder if he should just force his way past the guards.
Suddenly, the manor gate swung open.
His eyes lit up, and he looked up to see Bai Ruoxi emerging from the manor, her white dress flowing gracefully around her.
Her fair skin glowed in the sunlight, her ample bosom straining against the fabric of her dress. Her long, black hair cascaded down her back, held in place by a simple jade hairpin. Her beauty was breathtaking, her features delicate and refined, her expression cool and composed, like a classic beauty from a bygone era.
Ye Yu was mesmerized.
She truly was the most beautiful woman in Tianxuan City. Her face was flawless, captivating at first glance. It was no wonder Mu Zhi’an had been so smitten with her.
“Ruoxi, what happened inside?” he asked eagerly.
Bai Ruoxi glanced at him. “There was an incident. You should go home, Ye Yu.”
“What about you?” he asked instinctively.
“I’m returning to the Bai Manor,” she replied.
She needed to inform her mother about what had transpired. Of course, she would follow Mu Zhi’an’s instructions.
She wouldn’t reveal that Mu Zhi’an had killed Gongsun Zan. Instead, she would claim that Gongsun Zan was killed by a mysterious black-robed man. That was the story they were going with.
Ye Yu, hearing her answer, was relieved.
As long as she wasn’t with Mu Zhi’an, he was content.
“If I were part of the Mu family, I would have been the one to intervene today,” he said, his voice tinged with regret.
Bai Ruoxi glanced at him but didn’t respond.
Even if he were part of the Mu family, he doubted Ye Yu would have dared to lay a finger on Gongsun Zan.
It was a risky move, one that offered no personal gain. Mu Zhi’an had acted solely because, to him, human life was more valuable than any immediate benefit.
It might have seemed impulsive, even reckless, for a mature adult… but that impulsiveness, that disregard for personal gain, was what made him so captivating.
“Let me walk you home, Ruoxi,” Ye Yu said, seeing that she was about to leave.
“No, thank you. I need some time alone,” Bai Ruoxi replied coldly.
Ye Yu was disappointed. “Alright… Be careful on your way back.”
Bai Ruoxi nodded and continued waiting outside the manor.
Ye Yu looked at her, his lips parting as if to speak.
But seeing her cold expression, he sighed and walked away, defeated.
After he left, Bai Ruoxi continued watching the manor gate.
A while later, Mu Zhi’an emerged. She took a few steps towards him. “Are you heading back, Young Master Mu?”
He nodded.
“We’re heading in the same direction. Would you mind if I accompanied you?” she asked.
Mu Zhi’an looked at her. He was standing on the steps, and she was wearing a low-cut dress. From his angle, he had a clear view of her… assets.
His good mood, already ruined by Gongsun Zan, had vanished completely. He wasn’t in the mood for conversation.
But… they were simply too magnificent.
He was captivated.
He met her gaze, then smiled and nodded. “Alright.”
Such magnificence was impossible to refuse.
What do you think?
