Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix

Chapter 975: The best for last

Rain's description of the dragon god left a hard impression on everyone present. As Rain recounted the encounter, the areawas filled with a sense of awe, tinged with a spine-chilling fear.

The vividness of Rain's description made it evident that he might have been the last person to see the dragon god, and his narrative instilled a sense of reluctance among the listeners. The idea of encountering such a formidable and ominous entity seemed to unnerve them, leaving an impression that nobody else desired the "honor" of meeting this creature.

At first, some members of the group wondered if Rain was jesting with his portrayal of the dragon god's evil aura and the unsettling grins on its heads. However, a mere glance at Rain's eyes, while he recounted the encounter, dispelled any doubts they had. There was an unmistakable seriousness and sincerity in his expression that indicated he wasn't fabricating or exaggerating the tale.

It was a chilling reminder of the threat that loomed in the past and a stark illustration of the terrifying nature of the dragon god that Rain had faced.

"Considering what we heard and everything that happened until now, it truly looked like the dragon god is playing almost on another field of existence," Terra said. "Still, I can't help but wonder if he only made a move to kill Rain and never did anything like that again and thousands of years."

"Maybe he was jealous of my good looks," Rain said.

"Enough of that, it isn't funny anymore," Terra said after she rolled her eyes. "I guess not even you know the reason for that."

Rain knew the reasons, but he wanted to keep that secret hidden… it was a pity, but it couldn't be helped. Besides, who knows what would happen if people who actually belong to that period of time learned about reincarnation? Nothing good, that was very likely.

"Well, if he is that strong, you just have to fight alongside eight very strong people and that will be it," Sealyn said and then Danny and Annie laughed a bit. "What? Isn't that obvious?"

"Well, in a sense…" Danny furrowed his eyebrows.

"The question is, does Dad think that anyone is strong enough to kill a single head of the dragon god?" Annie asked. "I don't think so, if that weren't the case, he wouldn't be developing all these weird techniques and looking for these powerful relics."

"Even with that sword, you don't think that you could behead a single of the dragon god's heads?" Sealyn asked.

"Perhaps… if he didn't get stronger in the last one hundred years, a surprise attack added with the power of the sword and the Dragon Slayer path, I guess I could sever one of that guy's head," Rain said. "Anyway, let's rest for a bit. Tomorrow is an early day."

It would be hard to imagine anyone sleeping soundly after that. Still, soon they heard Rain's respiration while he was sleeping and realized that there was no point in worrying endlessly about things beyond their control.

Rain, despite his deep concerns and responsibilities, hadn't been able to teach many lessons to his children due to the circumstances. However, one of the key lessons he aspired for them to understand was the importance of focusing on the present moment rather than incessantly worrying about the future.

He hoped they would understand the significance of dedicating themselves to the tasks at hand. His philosophy revolved around the idea that by working diligently in the present, they would develop a sense of satisfaction, knowing that they had done everything within their capability if circumstances didn't pan out as expected.

It was about finding contentment in knowing they had given their best efforts, regardless of the outcome.

When morning came, everyone was ready to move. Terra and Seara weren't morning people just like usual, so they took a while to wake up fully… they had to use Impulse for a while before that could happen.

"Why do those guys have to make their camps so far away from each other?" Terra asked while showing an annoyed expression. "Even if they can fly, moving from one point to another like this is a massive waste of time."

"According to Isa, they didn't do that for any particular reason; some dragons just flocked to where the strongest ones lived, and this is the final result," Rain explained.

Rain wanted to say that they had it easy since when he was exploring the place, he spent weeks without knowing where to go, but that would make Terra's mood become even more sour. In any case, after moving south for half a day, the group finally reached their next destination… Still, they found nothing there.

The group's next targets, the third and fourth search points, were situated in different directions within the same mountain range. One of these locations was where the basilisk dragons once lived, while the other was the habitat of the golden dragons.

However, upon reaching these areas, it became painfully evident that both places had suffered complete devastation during the cataclysmic landing when the ice dragons descended upon them like meteors. They could only see craters there…

Despite their efforts, the group's exploration yielded no results. They diligently scoured the ruined sites for any remnants or clues but found nothing salvageable. Still, habitats of the basilisk and golden dragons lay in ruins, obliterated beyond recognition.

The decimation caused by the ice dragons' landing had left no stone unturned, obliterating any evidence or remnants that could have helped in their search.

"This is the true strength of the enemies, huh?" Danny said while looking around. "It is rather impressive that they were willing to even sacrifice themselves with suicidal attacks when they are cornered."

Still, they left the best for last… some people choose the bad news first when they had the option to choose between them and the good news, Rain was the inverse of that. He choose the hardest for last.
