Infinite Evolution: My Idle Evolution System

Chapter 298 5/7]

"Time for the 4th Challenge," Cassius said after absorbing the blood of the Knight Slayers. "But first, the System Notifications."

*Ding~!*

[You have slain 2 Knight Slayers!]

[Your Experience Bar barely moved!]

[You have obtained 55 Class Points, bringing your total Class Point amount to 73!]

[Challenge 3 Completed!]

[Initiating Return Process!]

Immediately following those System Notifications, Cassius was teleported outside Challenge 3's isolated dimension. And without pause, he continued the grind and picked the Platform with the largest number above it.

Like that, time trudged forward, with seconds becoming minutes and minutes becoming hours…

— 10 Days Later —

CLANG!

Cassius effortlessly parried what felt like the thousandth consecutive stinger attack. The monster dishing out all these attacks was a very large scorpion—one that was clearly not happy with the sudden appearance of an Intruder.

Of course, what could be interpreted as anger was, in actuality, just it following its savage nature and directives. It wasn't actually capable of feeling anything.

"You're quite the aggressive one, aren't ya?" Cassius asked, his appearance a little bit more rugged than how it was 10 days ago. "It's too bad that you're so weak."

SHING!

"Too bad indeed," he added after rapidly flashing around the scorpion monster's stinger as well as the rest of its 500-meter-long body. "Though, for something with strength approximately at that of the A-Rank, you put up a decent fight."

SPURT!

Massive fountains of blood simultaneously gushed all over the scorpion monster, with it falling to the mushy marsh ground as a corpse less than a second later.

Then came the all-too-familiar sound of System Notifications.

*Ding~!*

[You have slain the Scorpion Lord!]

[Your Experience Bar slightly moved!]

[You have obtained 28,000 Class Points, bringing your total Class Point amount to 37,000!]

[Challenge 83 Completed!]

[Initiating Return Process!]

As it turned out, the number of Platforms in the White Space exceeded Cassius's original estimations. What he was allowed to perceive as a couple hundred Platforms actually wound up being thousands, possibly even tens of thousands of Platforms.

Even now—after almost 2 weeks stuck in the White Space, actively completing Challenges—Cassius had only just recently advanced to the Uncommon-tier Platforms. Moreover, at his current rate of advancement, the Rare Tier was likely still months away from him.

This notion utterly erased the delusions that he once had about his Class Change Quest being something quick and easy.

He was in it for the long run…

"There's no point dwelling on something that can't be changed," Cassius said, resolving himself for the next Challenge. "I need the power that'll come from my Class Change. And to acquire it, I have to make sacrifices."

Pain, Suffering, and Time—what better things could be sacrificed?

With a long, icy breath of cold air, he steeled his nerves and hardened his expression. Then, with an ear-deafeningly silent leap, he made his way to the next Uncommon-tier Platform. This Platform had a Point score of 60,000 and would definitely have him fight something of the A+ Rank.

However, contrary to expectations, after landing on the Platform, he was greeted with a string of System Notifications that involved anything but fighting.

*Ding!*

[You thought your Challenges would be as straightforward as beating up stuff and getting the goods? Well, think again!]

[Challenge 84: Escape the Vine Maze] - [Tier: Uncommon]

[Reward: 60,000 Class Points]

[Accept?] - [Y/N]

"This is possible?" Cassius's brows raised in slight shock as he tapped the yes button, curious to see where it would take him. "A Vine Maze—something new."

As soon as those words escaped his mouth, his vision returned to normal. Except, he was no longer in the White Space nor was he in a fighting ring-like area.

All he could see were the lush, green walls of a high-reaching maze and the murky fog seeping in over the top of said maze. Other than that, there were just some loosely hanging vines attached to the walls.

"A path," Cassius said. "There's also a path. There's always a path."

A path forward. One that he obviously followed.

For the first few minutes of this little journey through a maze whose walls could not be breached, nothing of interest occurred. However, once the fourth of an hour mark came around, something changed in the vines that decorated the maze.

They started to… attack him.

Furthermore, they did so without holding anything back. They always aimed for his throat with their wickedly sharp thorns, each vine capable of ripping an A-Rank monster to shreds. Moreover, as time passed, the sentient vines increased in quantity.

At first, there were just a handful of sentient vines, but now—after more than an hour in the maze—that number increased to over a hundred!

And that number was ever increasing!

However, after roughly four hours trapped in the Vine Maze—aimlessly wandering and searching for a way out—Cassius finally found it. A way out.

The only problem was that the exit was being guarded by a skyscraper-sized tree monster…

The tree monster was put together by wrapping thousands of those sentient vines around one another. It was obviously a very scary creature and was even of the A+ Rank, but with a single nonchalant sword move by Cassius, it was obliterated. All of its green guts splattered the walls of the Maze—walls that Cassius sauntered through to get to the exit.

Then, with even less of a caring attitude, he walked through the exit. A bright eruption of golden light temporarily blinded him. Yet, in the very next moment, he was back in the White Space. The 9 Platforms he hadn't chosen faded to gray, whereas the 1 he completed joined the straight line of 83 golden Platforms neatly organized behind him.

Of course, one couldn't forget the System Notifications that, although a tad bit late, still arrived.

*Ding~!*

[You have killed the Sentient Vine Guardian and successfully escaped the Vine Maze!]

[Experience Bar slightly moved!]

[You have obtained 60,000 Class Points, bringing your total Class Point amount to 97,000!]

[Challenge 84 Completed!]

[Tch! You merely got lucky this time! Next time around, you won't be as lucky!]
