It was so strange, so she looked again.

Naruto felt his scalp tingle as Anko watched him, her two long, pale legs resting on the coffee table. He had seen her completely before, and she had a voluptuous figure.

‘If she had a different personality and wasn't so lazy, she would probably have been married by now.’

Naruto had never met a Jonin as lazy, foolish, and sluggish as Anko. She was clearly smart but had no motivation for anything other than food.

She used to hold back a little, but it seemed now she has thought it through and is seducing him openly.

They hadn't crossed that final line yet, only keeping things at a certain level. And despite being nearly thirty, Anko still had a youthful air about her.

The two of them exchanged a lazy glance and smiled at each other.

"What are you laughing at?" Anko asked.

"What are you laughing at?" Naruto shot back.

"I just think you're a real jerk. You always go after what you want." She rolled her eyes and complained, "You act like you don't know anything, but you know exactly what's going on."

"I knew you’d come find me when you couldn’t find anyone else. Maybe Ino and Hinata were busy, so when you had no one to get together with, you remembered me."

"How far down the list am I? From the start, you knew I’d be waiting for you. I mean, I’m not seeing anyone else, so I’m the most convenient option for you."

"That’s just your own imagination. I didn’t say any of that. Stop jumping to conclusions." Naruto said, feeling a bit guilty. He realized that, even though Anko was unlucky, she was still sharp.

Her ability to read people was uncanny, just like Orochimaru. After all, she was his apprentice, so her psychological analysis was spot on.

"Then just pretend I’m talking nonsense. If I happen to be right, it's purely a coincidence." Anko said smugly, probably enjoying one of her few moments of brilliance.

Her insights came from her understanding of Naruto and her own calculations. It wasn’t that she lacked intelligence, she just didn’t care to use her brain or struggle.

Having fallen into the mud, she had no desire to climb out.

Naruto recalled something shocking she'd said before, "So many people fail, why can't I be one of them?"

It was then that he realized how different she was… truly a unique individual.

"This is fine." She suddenly said.

"Huh? What?" Naruto looked up.

Anko was stunned for a moment, then her face turned red and she said through gritted teeth, "You!! I was opening up to you, and you were spacing out! Ughhh! Uzumaki Naruto, why don’t you just die already? You jerk!"

Anko lunged at him, grabbing his neck and shaking him violently. This was her usual reaction… he always managed to infuriate her to the point of madness.

‘This guy is a real scumbag! So infuriating!’

"I'm listening, I swear." Naruto pleaded, coughing slightly as he tried to calm her down, "I'm just wondering what you really meant."

"I just said it, didn’t I? I think this is fine as it is." Anko let go and lay back down next to him, staring at the ceiling, "I don’t want to date, and I don’t want to get married."

"But being alone all the time is too lonely. I want to do something different. But you know me, I’m not about to go looking for some stranger."

"Mm." Naruto reached out his hand, grasping at the air, "I just think you don’t have to live like this. If you’re ready to take the next step, I can help."

"No need. Maybe if you’d shown up sooner, I might have thought about it. But now… I’m just not interested." Anko said, "Kurenai’s already retired, settling into family life."

"I don’t even know what I could do besides teaching at the Academy. It feels like my path as a Shinobi has reached its end." She curled up, looking a bit lost.

"I shouldn’t have become his disciple in the first place. Even though I was useless, he still praised me. Gradually, I started to believe I could do it, but in reality, I had no talent."

"Sometimes, I wonder if Orochimaru chose me as his apprentice because I was stupid and easy to control. The more I think about it, the harder it is to move on."

"Let’s not dwell on unhappy things. Doing something is always more effective than talking." Naruto said as he pulled Anko toward him, giving her a meaningful look before leaning in closer.

Anko felt like she was about to explode, her heart pounding wildly as blood rushed to her head. Each step felt like it was pressing on her heart, like a melody that struck deep.

At midnight.

"Are you hungry?" Anko poked her head out from under the blanket and asked softly.

"I am. Do you want to eat now?" Naruto was leaning against the headboard, one hand resting on her, the other fiddling with a lady's cigarette.

He had found it in the drawer of Anko’s nightstand, along with a brand-new lighter still in its package.

Naruto was about to get up and head to the kitchen, but Anko had already beaten him to it. Without putting on anything, she got out of bed, slipped into her slippers, and headed to the kitchen.

"I'll go, just wait here."

Watching the door close behind her, Naruto thought for a moment, and suddenly an idea flashed through his mind, ‘Anko does have a talent for endurance, her stamina was quite impressive.’

‘Despite having such terrible luck, she still managed to live with an attitude of giving up but not completely. Her physical and mental state were strong. If she’d been given a system earlier in life, she could have been the pure embodiment of a protagonist.’

‘She had once been in the spotlight… just a plain Anko who became the top disciple of one of the Legendary Sannin, Orochimaru. Her master was once in line to become the next Hokage, with unmatched strength.’

‘But then Orochimaru defected, and in the blink of an eye, Anko plummeted from her pedestal into the dirt. Her abilities deteriorated, and she went from being a genius to a failure. If she’d had a system to rely on, she could have been the Shinobi World’s version of Xiao Yan.’ (T/N: Xiao Yan is Battle Through the Heavens’ Protagonist.)

The more Naruto thought about it, the more he admired Anko’s toughness. Who else, after their first time, would immediately get up and go to the kitchen like nothing happened.

Actually, Naruto originally planned to just chat. He felt bored and figured Anko would be free, probably even trying to find a way to skip work tomorrow.

With others, there were many things Naruto didn’t dare say. But when he’s with Anko, there was nothing he couldn’t discuss. He knew she wouldn’t mind at all.

For instance, if he mentioned that he wanted both Ino and Hinata, anyone else would react, but Anko? She’d just give him a thumbs up and say, "You are awesome! I can’t wait to see you crash and burn."

It wasn’t long before Anko returned, pushing open the door. Naruto glanced at the two plates of food in her hands. Because of how she had to open the door, one of the plates was held close to her body.

For a moment, Naruto couldn’t tell which looked more appetizing, Anko or the food, ‘Which should I dig into first? Hmm.’

"Ah! I spilled some sauce on myself!" Anko exclaimed in frustration as she accidentally dripped some sauce on herself, "Damn it, I didn’t even notice."

"I want the one that got spilled on!" Naruto declaredas he stood up.

Anko: "..."

The two of them sat at a small table in the room to eat. It was a single-person table, so they had to squeeze in close together. Anko seemed quite content and said, "It’s too small. I should’ve bought a bigger one."

"A bigger one would take up too much space. I’m not always going to be here eating with you." Naruto pointed out, subtly discouraging her from getting a new table.

"That's true." Anko nodded, surprisingly easy to persuade.
