Naruto, having no luck, had to escape from the Hokage Tower. He couldn’t afford to provoke Tsunade. So he decided to ask Tsunade again when she cooled down, hoping nothing bad would happen.
The village of Konoha was full of lush greenery, with trees sprouting even in the narrow gaps of the residential areas. Even between the walls, saplings tenaciously grew.
In the summer, the entire village was covered under a canopy of green. The golden sunlight was shattered into fragments, scattering everywhere.
Tenten was standing under the tree, wearing a white tunic with a bulge on her chest and a bun on her head. She was stunned when she saw Naruto tumbling out of the second-floor window.
"Tenten?"
"Huh? Naruto, what are you...?” Tenten looked Naruto up and down, and asked, "Were you thrown out by Tsunade-sama?"
"No."
"Oh."
"I escaped on my own," Naruto sniffed.
Tenten: “…”
Naruto had spent a long time as an unofficial member of Team 3, so he had a good relationship with Tenten, Neji and Lee. Since Team 3 didn't have much of a background, they were easy to find.
Basically, if Naruto wants to find Lee, he can just go to the mission management office and ask. If he wasn't on a mission, Lee will definitely be at the Training Ground No. 5.
They hadn’t seen much of each other in the last two years, mainly because Naruto was mostly away on missions. When he had free time, he had other things to worry about.
"Naruto, your relationship with Tsunade-sama is really good," Tenten said with some envy.
"It's alright." Naruto said with some guilt, remembering how he’d almost been punched to death earlier. He had just escaped from the brink of death, "If you hang around her more often, your relationship will improve too."
"Forget it. I don't have the talent to Chakra Control. I can only mess around with weapons." Tenten said somewhat dejectedly, "I have been free recently and I don't know what to do."
Medical Ninjutsu does indeed require talent for precise Chakra Control, and Tenten’s ability in this area is a little weak.
"Are there no missions recently?" Naruto asked as he dusted himself off, curious.
"No." She shook her head, looking troubled, "Guy-sensei said we're on a break for now and there will be no missions for a while. He hinted that we should find something we enjoy doing."
"I don't really understand, so I was planning to ask Tsunade-sama about it."
"Oh, she's upstairs, but not in the Hokage’s Office," Naruto thought for a moment, "She's on the fourth floor in the Medical Department, in Shizune-san's office."
The missions of Konoha 11 had all been suspended. Team 7 had practically disbanded. Team 10 had members getting married, and Ino was focusing on research.
The only teams still active were Team 3 and Team 8. Team 8 was a reconnaissance team that can take on missions as a group or individually.
However, due to what happened to the Inuzuka Clan before, Kiba's involvement in Team 8 was affected, and now, basically only Shino occasionally participates in the village's missions.
Hinata, meanwhile, had been preparing for the Jonin Exams for the past half month, and the results will probably be out soon.
All in all, the only team left relatively unaffected was Team 3. This was likely because they were a Taijutsu-based team, and there was no hereditary throne in their family.
Neji was the only one with a big clan connection, but he is from a branch family. In a traditional clan like the Hyuga Clan, he does not hold any significant status.
But at present, the activities of Team 3 are also affected by the Root. Tsunade is indeed about to take action against the Root, and not just the Root.
She aimed to uproot Danzo and weaken the influence of the two old Advisors. Given this, she naturally had to suspend Team 3, which is Hokage's staunch supporter, to avoid them becoming targets or getting caught up in the chaos.
"Do you really like Tsunade-sama?" Naruto suddenly asked.
"Yeah, who wouldn't like her?" Tenten clasped her hands together, her face full of admiration as she got lost in the glow of Tsunade’s legendary status.
Seeing this, Naruto blinked and came up with an idea.
"Hey, Tenten, would you like to be Tsunade-sama's secretary?" Naruto scratched his head and asked tentatively, "You know, like running errands for her and staying by her side."
"Huh!" Tenten was stunned at first, then suddenly straightened up in excitement, "Really? I'd love that! Anyway, I don’t have any missions right now, so being Tsunade-sama’s secretary would be awesome, hehe."
"But Tsunade-sama doesn't need a secretary, right? I-I’m not really skilled at anything."
Hearing this, Naruto thought to himself, ‘It is precisely because you can't do anything that I chose you, girl!’
Naruto knew it would be harder for him to interact directly with Tsunade from now on, so having a buffer like Tenten was perfect.
Although Naruto is not doing his job, he knows Tsunade very well. Since she wasn’t skilled at much, Tenten’d have to ask him for advice.
This way, there would be a buffer zone in the relationship with Tsunade. Tenten, being so straightforward, probably wouldn’t even notice.
“Of course she needs one! Why wouldn’t she?" Naruto said, keeping a straight face, "Shizune-san is in charge of the Medical Department now, Sakura has gone to the laboratory, and Ino’s brief stint as a secretary is long over."
Naruto patted Tenten's shoulder, then said earnestly, "Tenten, it’s all up to you now."
"Alright! I'll do my best!" Tenten's eyes blazed with determination, completely entranced by the idea of working with her idol. She was already looking forward to her new job.
"Well, I'll put in a good word for you when the time comes. It won't take too long, just two days." Naruto said.
"Okay, thank you so much, Naruto." Tenten was deeply moved and said sincerely, completely unaware that she was being dragged further and further down the path of being a tool.
However, in Team 3, Tenten was basically a tool, as she’s perfect for all kinds of chores, both home and away. On a journey, she could cook porridge, make soup, and even prepare meat, turning any trip into a comfortable experience.
Naruto, being shameless as usual, thought this was a brilliant idea… killing three birds with one stone.
‘Tsunade wouldn’t have to face me, sparing her the frustration. I wouldn’t have to risk my life approaching Tsunade with requests, staying safe. And Tenten would fulfill her dream of being close to her idol, while also building up her experience and credentials. Perfect.’
What do you think?
