Chapter 73 67: Hua Xianzi Repays Kindness (Please Subscribe)
Night fell, before midnight.
Chen Yi, dressed in a black short garment with the Spring Rain Sword hanging at his waist, left his side-room.
Silently, he ran down the mountain.
Nearly a month had passed without Sun Zhengqiu seeking him out; he wondered what urgent matter there could be this time.
Not long after, Chen Yi arrived at the forest where they had previously met; he scanned the area and flicked the sword hilt.
A wave of Sword Intent ripple out, instantaneously locating the hidden person in the forest.
Chen Yi looked over, his gaze slightly chilling.
But before he could speak, sensing his Slaughter Sword Intent, Sun Zhengqiu hastily emerged, stumbling to kneel in front of him, saluting:
"Sir, I did not see you clearly just now, and hesitated much, I hope you can forgive me."
Not see clearly?
Or trying to test him?
Chen Yi inwardly scoffed, his tone cold as he asked, "What do you want with me?"
"There are two matters I need to report to you."
Sun Zhengqiu kept his head low, internally regretting his previous attempt to test.
He didn't know why, upon seeing the Young Marquis, a curious thought emerged in his mind.
As if a voice told him that the Sword Intent of the Young Marquis might not be genuine.
If it was fake, then following him would be worthless.
Thus, Sun Zhengqiu delayed his appearance slightly, wanting to see what Chen Yi would do in his absence.
He hadn't expected that not only was the Young Marquis's Sword Intent genuine, but his perceptiveness and wisdom were frightening.
He had almost instantly seen through his intentions, forcing him to embarrassingly come out and apologize.
"I received a secret letter from there, telling me to stay hidden for six years, during which I need not execute any tasks."
Hiding for six years?
Chen Yi slightly frowned but asked no questions.
"Continue."
Sun Zhengqiu didn't dare delay, continuing: "Secondly, I wish to withdraw from the Martial Arts Hall and join the Demon Hunting Hall for experience."
Chen Yi was slightly surprised and after sizing him up, asked, "For what reason?"
"I want to be prepared ahead of time, first to scout external news, and secondly to use those tasks to quickly enhance my cultivation."
"For me?"
"I wouldn't dare."
A smile appeared on Chen Yi's face, the earlier displeasure dissolving.
Indeed, Sun Zhengqiu was clever, but he was also of average talent, not clever enough.
Hence, though no harsh punishment was warranted, a mild caution was still necessary.
"I agree."
"But there's one thing I need you to do."
Upon hearing of the task, Sun Zhengqiu secretly heaved a sigh of relief, quickly responding: "Please instruct, sir."
"Collect all information related to Duke Jingye Zhou Tiance. I want to know everything about him since the battle at Beixiong Pass twenty years ago."
"Duke Jingye? A Marquis?" Sun Zhengqiu was momentarily stunned, but quickly shifted gears: "I've noted it down, will devote all my heart and effort."
"Devotion is good, effort, well, you are still lacking in strength."
Chen Yi's lips slightly curled up, and he turned to walk up the mountain.
"I know about the matter, in the future, unless necessary, do not disturb me."
Such a task shouldn't be considered a harsh punishment, right?
If he can remain undiscovered and live, then naturally it wouldn't be...
...
As winter passed and autumn arrived, in the blink of an eye, more than half a year had gone.
It was once again the Mid-Autumn Festival.
And it had been a full year since Chen Yi and the others were initiated into the Grand Void Sect.
On this day, just like the previous instances, Chen Yi traditionally set up a festive atmosphere at Sword Edge Mountain.
Yet unlike the previous Lantern Festival, two people were absent this time — Wei Letian and Wei Xiaoyun.
In the words of the young princely heir, during this year, the Twelfth Prince and the Thirteenth Princess had mostly been surrounded by other disciples and had forgotten about their fellow students from Xingwu Academy.
Chen Yi just smiled at this, expressing nothing.
To his knowledge, the martial heritage of the Wei Dynasty Royal Family was somewhat stronger than that of the Sect.
The Emperor Wei insisting on sending the Wei siblings to the Grand Void Sect surely had other motives.
Now, it seemed that one of their tasks was to recruit Sect disciples.
As for them, originally from nobility of the Wei Dynasty, it was natural not to be valued by the Wei siblings.
At least within the Grand Void Sect, they weren't worth the effort of the Wei siblings.
Of course, if there really was a need to use them, probably leveraging parental authority, more effective than methods like wooing, bribing, or investing.
"Brother Yi, has your cultivation reached the high segment of the Eighth Grade?" the plump Wang Yongnian asked.
He was much more robust than a year ago, his Grand Void Sect Daoist robe appearing quite stretched.
His round head shaved close on top, his ordinary and slightly dark face filled with envy.
"Yes." Chen Yi nodded while turning the lamb chops on the grill: "You should also focus more on your cultivation."
Although he had advanced smoothly from the Ninth Grade to the Eighth Grade, thanks to system rewards, his progress was much faster than Wang Yongnian's.
Yet he was already at the upper segment of the Eighth Grade, while the plump youngster was still stuck at the higher segment of the Ninth Grade, finding it hard to advance to the Eighth Grade.
The reason lay elsewhere.
The Body Cultivation Technique of Lin Xun Peak was quite special, emphasizing physical training over True Yuan.
Over the past year, Wang Yongnian spent most of his time toughening his body, only recently meeting the cultivation requirements of Lin Xun Peak's Body Cultivation Technique.
But Chen Yi wanted him to try harder for another reason.
Who knew who influenced the plump youngster, but apart from body training, he spent his time learning blacksmithing.
Well, forging.
Although the disciples of Lin Xun Peak indeed had a forging heritage, diving into blacksmithing at such a young age greatly affected the progress of his cultivation.
Wang Yongnian chuckled, "Brother Yi, I've noted it down, I will surely advance my cultivation to the Eighth Grade soon."
What do you think?
