I'm an Extra, so What?

Chapter 84 84: Ranger Selection Trial (5)

On the other side of the forest—

Rosie stood calmly, face-to-face with a man reeking of blood and sweat.

His Academy uniform was stained and torn, the fabric clinging to him in damp patches.

A longbow rested across his back, several bloodied arrows rattling in a worn quiver.

He gave a sloppy bow, smirking wide enough to show his teeth.

"Ah~ It's an honor to face you, Heiress of Gold," he said.

Rosie's eyes narrowed with disdain.

She rolled them slowly, making her displeasure obvious.

"Please," she replied coldly. "Don't utter that nickname. It brings me nothing but irritation."

Rosie despised battle-hungry fools—those who treated life like a toy easily discarded.

In her mind, it was the height of stupidity to cherish bloodshed over survival.

"I understand..." the man muttered under his breath.

Then, louder, his grin splitting wider into something feral:

"You'd rather we get straight to the fight? What a pleasant surprise!"

Without waiting for a response, he let out a booming laugh, yanked three arrows from his quiver in one smooth motion, notched them all to his bow, and fired.

Rosie expected nothing less.

In a blur, she pulled out her own bow—crafted entirely of gleaming metal.

As the arrows whistled toward her, she activated a skill, [Bowguard], causing her bow to shimmer with a faint silver glow.

The arrows clattered harmlessly against her strengthened bow, falling to the ground without even scratching it.

Her reaction was immediate.

With a smooth, practiced motion, Rosie pulled an arrow from her quiver, nocked it, and fired.

But the man didn't dodge.

Instead, he simply spread his arms wide, welcoming the shot with a mocking grin.

Inches before impact, a faint shimmer flared around him—an invisible barrier—and the arrow was knocked aside, clattering uselessly to the ground with a dull ding.

'What the hell was that?' Rosie thought, her brow furrowing slightly.

She didn't have to wonder for long.

The man chuckled, proudly tapping a necklace around his neck—a crude amulet with a dull red gem embedded in the center.

"This puppy right here?" he said, his voice dripping with arrogance.

"Blocks all normal attacks. Sadly, it doesn't block Skills... So you've got no choice but to waste your stamina!"

Rosie said nothing.

Her silence made him braver.

He mistook it for fear.

"Don't worry," the man cooed mockingly, stepping forward.

"I won't hurt you too badly. You're a lady, after all. I'll make sure to treat you... real nice."

He licked his lips.

Rosie shook her head slowly, almost pitying him.

"Really? You think I'm some helpless little girl just because basic attacks don't work?" Her voice was razor sharp.

"Don't make me laugh."

Without another word, she slung her bow over her shoulder and turned her gaze to her hand, where several rings—each set with different colored gems.

'Hmm. Which one should I use?' she mused, flicking through them lazily.

The man hesitated, thrown off by her lack of fear.

"You don't have to act tough," he sneered, trying to regain momentum.

"Everyone outside will understand when you lose to—"

He never finished.

Rosie smoothly slid a ring off her middle finger.

She raised her hand—and flipped him off, smiling sweetly as she did.

For a heartbeat, nothing happened.

Then—the man's amulet shattered, splintering into a thousand glittering shards around his neck.

"What the—?!" he gasped, staggering backward, disbelief etched across his face.

Rosie tucked her hand behind her back, still smiling faintly.

"What?" she said with mock innocence.

"Did you really think you were the only one with fancy toys?"

Her eyes glinted dangerously.

"I have plenty of surprises. More than you can handle."

Gritting his teeth, the man dropped to his knees and scrambled to pick up the shattered pieces of his amulet.

"You bitch!" he roared.

"I spent a fortune on this!"

He stomped the ground in frustration, then lunged forward, gripping his bow like a club.

Clearly, he intended to beat her down with brute force.

But before he could close the distance—

Rosie calmly slid the ring back onto her middle finger and pulled off another—this one gleaming a frosty blue.

A moment later, jagged ice shards erupted from her hand, glinting in the light as they shot forward.

The man's eyes widened. "You got to be kidding me!?"

He skidded to a halt—

Too late.

The shards slammed into his shoulders and legs, ripping through cloth and flesh alike.

Blood splattered as he was forced backward with a grunt of pain.

"What the fuck!?" he shouted, staggering.

"You're a Ranger! How the hell did you use magic?!"

Rosie slipped the ring back onto her finger, her expression blank and unaffected.

"Like I said," she replied coolly.

"I have plenty of toys."

Her indifference only stoked the fire of his fury.

He craved a reaction—fear, desperation, anything.

He wanted to see her break, to watch her expression twist in terror as he overwhelmed her, to know that he had shattered her composure completely.

But then, he stopped.

Breathed in.

And forced the fury off his face, replacing it with something far more dangerous: a wide, gleeful grin.

"Well…" he muttered, chuckling darkly.

"I guess this just makes it more fun."

He activated a skill—

[Shard Rejection]

A faint pulse rippled across his body, and the ice embedded in his limbs suddenly cracked and disintegrated, falling off in brittle fragments.

He let out a mad laugh, blood still dripping from the wounds, and bolted forward, zigzagging to close the distance.

Rosie sighed softly.

She pulled off another ring.

Instantly, the ground beneath the man's feet twisted and surged.

Dark soil rose into the shape of grasping hands, locking around his ankles.

"What now!?" he barked, looking down in disbelief.

"This is getting pathetic!" He roared, flexed, and tore himself free through sheer brute strength—

But just as he looked up—

Thunk!

An arrow buried itself into his chest.

He froze, his breath catching.

Then he laughed again, sharp and breathless.

"Oh, fuck… that hurt," he said through gritted teeth, blood soaking through his uniform.

"But it feels so damn good~!"
