Chapter 468: Putting on Makeup
Cameras, actors, filming directors, and more.
On a film set, everyone had to move as one body.
The highlight scene of the drama arrived amid perfect control.
It was the moment they were filming the scene where the main character was being chased by a ghost.
"NYAAAAAAAAAA!"
Hearing a scream from behind, filming director Jang Young-gyu furrowed his brow.
The supporting actor fleeing from the ghost stopped, and the actor playing the ghost stopped too.
Since filming often halted due to mistakes or fan intrusions, most people showed annoyed expressions.
While the actors managed to maintain their expressions, filming director Jang Young-gyu couldn't.
For someone who needed to control even the smallest flows on set, the scream was a massive variable."Hmm..."
Jang Young-gyu rose from his chair and looked back.
The filming equipment and crowd obscured whoever had screamed.
Jang Young-gyu had no choice but to grab a nearby staff member and ask.
"What's going on?"
"W-well, I don't really..."
"It was definitely a child's scream..."
Jang Young-gyu considered trusting the junior staff member who ran off, but decided to move himself.
The scream was too childlike.
If even a small controversy arose, the drama could fail before it aired.
"Wait a moment, everyone."
"Yes."
Jang Young-gyu followed the junior staff to where the scream had come from.
There, he found a child frozen in place.
Pointy ears standing straight up and wide blue eyes.
Those trembling blue eyes were fixed on the people in ghost makeup.
'Oh no.'
Seeing the child, Jang Young-gyu sensed something had gone wrong.
He knew who this rigid child was.
The beloved child of Yeomyeong Guild.
Had this child woken up early, gone outside, and screamed after encountering people in ghost makeup?
Jang Young-gyu hurried to approach the child but found it impossible.
Animals had appeared out of nowhere and were protecting the child.
"Myung-myung!"
"Ukkik!"
There was a kitten, a baby monkey, and even a piglet.
A puppy stood by too, nodding off sleepily.
Jang Young-gyu had no choice but to speak from a distance.
"Little one, are you okay...?"
"Y-yes..."
"You were startled by the ghost makeup?"
"Yes, but I'm fine now..."
As Gyeoul spoke, she kept glancing at the people in ghost makeup.
Trembling at the creepy makeup, Gyeoul unconsciously hugged Seol to her chest.
"We scared you unintentionally. I'm really sorry about that."
"It's okay. You didn't do it on purpose."
"Haha..."
She's as kind as they say.
As Jang Young-gyu tried to smooth over the situation, he noticed the child's gaze fixed on the drama's actors.
Did she like one of the actors perhaps?
If so, he should let her meet them while apologizing.
Just as Jang Young-gyu looked toward where the actors were gathered:
"Is that real blood...?"
Gyeoul pointed at the people in ghost makeup.
It seemed she was more interested in the makeup than the actors.
**
Following the staff's guidance while watching the filming, I ended up in the makeup room.
It was a makeup room set up inside a large vehicle.
"This is fake blood for props."
The special effects makeup artist handed me some fake blood.
The blood in the container did look somewhat close to the real thing.
"It looks like real blood."
"Right? Want to touch it?"
"Can I?"
"Yeah. As much as you want."
At the makeup artist's offer, I poked the fake blood with my finger.
I rubbed the sticky blood between my thumb and index finger, then applied it under my eye like bloody tears.
Looking in the mirror as I applied it, there wasn't enough to look like bloody tears.
"...Would you like to try a proper makeup experience?"
"Um... I..."
I was about to politely decline, but seeing the excited special effects makeup artist, I had to keep quiet.
For some reason, I couldn't refuse the atmosphere they were creating.
"Simple blood makeup doesn't take long, and it barely costs anything."
"Then maybe just a little..."
"Let's do it!"
The special effects makeup artist brought out unnamed tools.
Tap-tap, when they started rubbing my face with a brush, I quickly spoke up.
"But I hope it's not too scary."
"Don't worry. I'll just do something mild, like Halloween party makeup."
Halloween party makeup shouldn't be too scary.
I relaxed and entrusted my face to the makeup artist, somehow falling asleep in the process.
**
"Gyeoul?"
I opened my eyes at someone's call.
As I rubbed my eyes with a light yawn, someone caught my hand.
"You just finished your makeup, so you shouldn't rub your eyes."
"Ah..."
Blinking awake, I checked the mirror first.
I quite liked the simple makeup, just blood around my eyes and mouth.
"Amazing. I look like a real ghost."
"Yeah. Can I take a photo of your makeup?"
"Sure."
After having my photo taken and thanking the makeup artist, I walked out of the vehicle.
I wanted to show my makeup to my family.
'The sun should be rising soon.'
Though it was still dark, there was a bluish tinge suggesting the sun would rise soon.
Should I rest a bit until the children wake up?
As I was walking toward the tent:
"Owner?"
Pitter-patter-patter—
I heard Gaeul's voice from a spot not far from the tent.
Her footsteps seemed to be running all over the park.
"Where awe you?"
Gaeul, who had been checking the bushes, then looked in the pond.
She seemed to be searching for me throughout the park.
"Gaeul?"
"...!"
Gaeul perked up her ears and turned toward me with a bright smile.
Running toward me with her characteristic innocent smile, she suddenly stopped in place.
She seemed very startled by my ghost makeup.
"Aeh...!"
"G-Gaeul."
Thump-
When Gaeul was about to sound the alarm, I quickly approached and covered her mouth.
I also made a shushing sound, worried we might disturb the drama filming.
"Jwusht dahmahzhed."
Gaeul was saying something, but with her mouth covered, I couldn't understand.
"Gaeul, I'll take my hand away, but you need to speak quietly, okay?"
"Nyeng..."
Seeing Gaeul nod, I removed my hand from her mouth.
She stamped her feet and shook her clenched fists up and down.
"Owner is hurt...!"
She wasn't startled by the ghost makeup but thought I was injured.
I patted Gaeul's head, assuring her I was fine.
"This isn't an injury, it's makeup."
"Maykup?"
"Yes. I'm pretending to be a ghost."
"Game...?!"
My explanation seemed to work, as Gaeul's worried expression changed to one of interest.
Thinking ghost pretending was a fun game, Gaeul wagged her tail and began rummaging through her bag.
"Gaeuri ghost too."
"You want to join me?"
"Nyeng...!"
Gaeul pulled a white cloth from her bag.
It was the cloth used for the teleportation magic trick.
"Woo~ Gaeuri ghost."
Gaeul covered herself with the cloth and ran around the lawn as a ghost.
I was giggling at the cute sight when:
"Kids, why are you outside..."
Han Yeoreum, trudging toward us, opened her eyes wide when she saw us.
She took out her smartphone and started taking photos.
"Gyeoul and Gaeul became ghosts? Did you draw on your face yourself, Gyeoul?"
"No, the drama people did this for me."
"Ah, the drama."
Click-click-
Yeoreum continued taking photos as she approached us.
For some reason, her steps seemed weak.
"You look really tired."
"Yeah. I've been running around everywhere because of the bad powder."
"Ah..."
By bad powder, did she mean the blue powder?
So Sophia and Yeoreum hadn't come home because of the powder.
I wanted to help, but there was nothing more I could do.
"Did you catch the culprit?"
"We haven't caught them yet, but we're narrowing it down. Your help was huge, Gyeoul."
Yeoreum patted my head.
I noticed an unfamiliar chemical smell from her hand.
"Your hand smells like chemicals."
"...I guess the powder smell stuck while I was cleaning up."
"I-isn't it bad for your body if it gets on you...?"
"It's fine as long as you don't inhale it directly. Actually, someone as strong as me wouldn't feel any effects even if I did inhale it."
"I-I see..."
So the powder doesn't work on strong people?
That's somewhat reassuring.
I wonder if the powder would work on me or not.
As I was thinking about this, Yeoreum tapped both my head and Gaeul's.
"Oh my, you two were having fun, and I brought up something unnecessary."
"It's okay. We're guild members too."
"That's right, both Gyeoul and Gaeul are our guild members."
Yeoreum reached out and hugged us tightly.
I thought she would let us go after a brief hug, but she carried us all the way home.
"Ah, holding you both like this makes my fatigue disappear."
"Gaeuri too..."
"Your fatigue is disappearing too, Gaeul?"
"Heuk..."
Were we being too loud?
The door to the room where the children were sleeping opened, and Levinas came out.
"HUUUUUUUUUK!"
Levinas gasped in horror when she saw me.
What do you think?
