I Received System to Become Dragonborn

Chapter 758: His Body Failing

High above the battlefield, far from the chaos that had engulfed Dredge at Erend's hands, Saeldir now faced off against Laston. King Gulben was still far behind, having been blasted away by the massive hand extending from Laston's cybernetic arm.

Saeldir gripped his staff tightly, using it as his primary weapon. With incredible speed, he conjured a barrier to deflect Laston's attacks before retaliating with precise bursts of magic from a safer distance, wary of any surprise abilities Laston might still have.

Laston gritted his teeth in frustration. There's no end to them. Even after blasting Gulben out of his way, now Saeldir stood in his path, relentlessly attacking and preventing him from fully healing or even having a moment to rid himself of the sword still embedded in his shoulder.

Spinning his staff, Saeldir summoned a razor-sharp whirlwind and sent it hurtling toward Laston. The sheer speed of the attack caught Laston off guard, and he barely managed to raise his energy barrier in time.

The wind storm slammed into the barrier, cracks forming on its surface. It obscured Laston's vision, giving Saeldir just enough time to prepare his next move.

A crackling surge of silver lightning sparked along Saeldir's staff as he aimed it directly at Laston. In an instant, he unleashed a massive lightning pillar, its speed and destructive force roaring through the sky.

BOOM!

Laston let out a pained scream—not because the lightning struck his body, but because it struck the sword lodged in his shoulder.

The impact sent a violent jolt of energy coursing through the blade, surging directly into Laston's body, attacking him from within.

"BASTARD!" Laston roared in fury.

Hearing that, a smirk formed on Saeldir's face. After all this time, after enduring Laston's overwhelming power, they had finally struck back—finally made him suffer.

With a grimace, Laston transformed his remaining arm back into a cannon, aiming it straight at Saeldir. Ignoring his own failing barrier and the lingering wind attack, he fired, sending a devastating blast directly toward Saeldir.

Saeldir twisted his body mid-air, narrowly avoiding the cannon blast as it roared past him, leaving behind a blazing trail of energy.

The sheer force of the shot sent shockwaves rippling through the sky and distorting the air around them. He felt the heat graze his side but he kept moving, weaving through the onslaught that coming next.

Laston's cybernetic eyes locked onto him, recalibrating rapidly as he fired again and again, tracking Saeldir's every move.

The cannon blasts exploded in quick succession, forcing Saeldir to push his speed to the limit. "If even one of those hits me…"

He didn't need to finish the thought. Best case, he'd be blown away, giving Laston precious time to act. Worst case, he wouldn't have to worry about fighting ever again.

He couldn't let that happen.

Laston growled in frustration, his mechanical arm glowing white-hot from continuous fire. His targeting was perfect, his calculations precise, and yet Saeldir kept dodging.

The Elf was still pretty fast. Or… is it because his mind now being influenced by the sword in his shoulder that he can be as good as he hoped to be?

But Laston still had more tricks up his sleeve. He prepared to unleash a larger, more destructive blast, until a sharp searing pain ripped through his body.

A cold realization struck him.

His vision blurred for a moment before flashing red with warning alerts. System failures. Energy leaks. His cybernetic body was beginning to fail.

The damn sword.

The pain radiated from his shoulder, spreading through his entire body. He had tried to ignore it and suppress it, but now it was eating away at him, disrupting his systems and weakening his limbs.

His body wasn't functioning properly anymore. If he didn't remove this sword now, he wouldn't last much longer.

Gritting his teeth, Laston stopped firing and reached for the blade. But Saeldir saw his desperation and he wasn't about to let this chance slip away.

Saeldir launched himself forward, his eyes locked onto Laston's struggling form. This was his moment. The enemy was vulnerable, distracted, the sword continued to wreak havoc inside him.

Saeldir had no intention of giving him even a second to recover.

As he closed the distance, Laston was still reaching for the embedded sword, his focus entirely on trying to remove it. He didn't see Saeldir coming — not until it was too late.

Only when Saeldir was nearly upon him did Laston glance up, his cybernetic eye flickering as it adjusted to the sudden movement.

But the only thing he saw was Saeldir's staff swinging down toward him.

"Damn it!"

Laston barely managed to shift his arm in defense. The impact was brutal—Saeldir's staff slammed into his forearm, sending another jolt of Magic energy surging through his circuits.

Sparks flew as his systems overloaded further, and a sharp, metallic snap rang out. His cannon-arm twisted awkwardly, its mechanisms seizing up as the surge of power disrupted his control.

Saeldir didn't relent. The moment he landed, he spun his staff and struck again, this time aiming for Laston's already weakened shoulder.

The force of the blow drove the embedded sword deeper, sending another wave of agonizing energy ripping through Laston's body.

He let out a snarl of pain, staggering back, his remaining systems struggling to compensate.

"You're breaking apart, Laston," Saeldir said, his voice cold.

Laston gritted his teeth, his fury barely holding back the agony coursing through him. His systems were at their limit, but he refused to fall here.

With a roar, he lunged forward, his good arm now forming a crackling energy blade as he swung it toward Saeldir's chest.

But his speed was no longer as fast as before. Laston's swing was something Saeldir could see clearly with the naked eye.

Saeldir pulled back his staff and struck the energy blade, easily deflecting it out of his way.

"You've lost your fangs. Now is the time for you to fall!" Saeldir shouted, his voice filled with emotion.

He extended his arm toward Laston's head and fired an energy beam straight at him.

Laston's head snapped back, and he fallin to the ground.
