Chapter 330 - 330 326 On the Verge
Chapter 330: Chapter 326: On the Verge Chapter 330: Chapter 326: On the Verge The five Pawnshop staff leaped into the small courtyard.
They immediately noticed the half-open door.
Exchanging glances, they quickly lined up in a formation with two in the front and three in the rear, slowly advancing towards the door.
Seeing this scene, Fang Xiaocao immediately held her breath and concentrated, her eyes fixed on the figures of the five men, while her hand holding the Flying Dagger slowly lifted, waiting for the moment Hummingbird did not spring out to Steal Kasaya—that would be her cue to strike and kill.
“Faster, even faster…”
Fang Xiaocao urged impatiently in her heart.
Creak—
Finally, the door was pushed open.
However, Hummingbird did not spring out of the room as Fang Xiaocao had anticipated, in a sudden fierce leap.
The room was eerily quiet, devoid of any sign of life.
It seemed as though no living creature was inside.
Fang Xiaocao frowned slightly, cursing Hummingbird in her mind for the foolery. Hadn’t she told it, to kill on sight? Why hadn’t it come out to take down these riffraff from the Pawnshop?
The five men from the Pawnshop shared another look, and two of them, one with a gun and the other with a flashlight in hand, cautiously entered the room.
The other three stood in the courtyard.
They held their guns, aimed at the room.
Seeing this, Fang Xiaocao grew increasingly anxious.
But what could she do?
Although confident she could take down these three men with her Flying Dagger, she was not sure she could do it without them making a sound.
And once she threw her Flying Dagger to kill,
without Hummingbird to mangle the bodies,
her position would be exposed.
Then she would find herself in a perilous situation, possibly getting shot at by others outside the courtyard.
Fang Xiaocao felt so nervous, sweat beaded on her nose.
Yet, Hummingbird still did not take action.
The two who had just entered the room had also grown silent, puzzling Fang Xiaocao.
Hummingbird was strong, but surely it couldn’t have silently taken out two men just like that?
Fang Xiaocao found it all very perplexing.
She even considered rushing into the hut to see what was happening.
Fang Xiaocao was puzzled, and so were the three men in the courtyard.
They looked at each other, unsure of what had happened. Their comrades had entered the hut and suddenly gone quiet, even the flashlight had been turned off.
“What are those two doing?” one of the men asked in a deep voice.
The other two shook their heads.
“What should we do?”
“Should we go in and check?”
“There’s something off about this room!” one of them said gravely.
“Or shall we just call the Shopkeeper to bring people in?” another suggested.
“Are you looking to die?”
“Without any clarity, calling the Shopkeeper would spell disaster for us three and our families; we’d all be made into scapegoats in the shop.”
“But if we don’t call the Shopkeeper, and there’s something off inside, going in could mean our deaths!”
“If we die, at least our families will be safe!”
Hearing their discussion, Fang Xiaocao was inwardly alarmed by the ruthlessness of the Pawnshop—they would implicate the families for mistakes made.
Indeed, they were no good!
Fang Xiaocao gained new insight into the Pawnshop.
“So, what do we do?”
“Do we really have to go in?”
“Let’s go in!”
“If we die, at least it might leave a way out for our families!”
“All three of us will go in together!”
After further discussion, the three of them decided to enter together to investigate.
Hearing this, Fang Xiaocao let out a sigh of relief.
She was once again ready to draw her knife at any moment.
As soon as the three men entered the doorway, whether or not Hummingbird made a move, she would immediately throw her Flying Dagger, taking out two of them.
The three men, one in front and two behind, moved together towards the hut.
As the last man’s foot crossed the threshold, a cold gleam flashed in Fang Xiaocao’s eyes.
Whoosh, whoosh—
With a flick of Fang Xiaocao’s wrist,
two sounds of cleaving air arose.
Two dots of cold gleam flashed by.
The next second!
The back of the heads of the two men walking behind were pierced by two shiny Flying Daggers. Before they could even scream, their bodies went limp and they “plop” fell to the ground.
Hearing the noise behind him, the man in front walked briskly, then suddenly turned around, the next second, a huge bear paw violently reached out from behind him.
Amidst his terrified howls, he was dragged into the darkness.
Thud—
A loud bang, and the door of the hut was slammed shut.
In the moment the door closed, Fang Xiaocao saw a bear face covered in blood through the crack.
Seeing this scene, Fang Xiaocao felt her hair stand on end, a chill running down her spine.
“Hiss—”
“This silly bear is kind of scary…”
Fang Xiaocao couldn’t help but inhale sharply.
That brief glimpse reminded Fang Xiaocao of a horror movie about a bear eating people.
“What happened inside?”
The hoarse voice of the Shopkeeper came from outside the courtyard.
The Shopkeeper called out several times in a row and received no response, his voice becoming increasingly agitated.
Fang Xiaocao quietly hid deeper inside the haystack, to avoid being discovered should too many people come in later. At the same time, she pulled several Flying Daggers from her Dagger Bag and gripped them in her hand.
“Let’s go in and have a look!”
Following the Shopkeeper’s cry,
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh—
More than a dozen Dahan suddenly leaped onto the courtyard wall.
Seeing this scene, Fang Xiaocao squinted her eyes.
With these men added to the previous five, there shouldn’t be many left outside.
But…
With so many people coming in at once, she and the “Steal Kasaya” wouldn’t be able to handle them.
Now Fang Xiaocao could only silently pray that Hummingbird would act quickly to take some of the pressure off her.
Otherwise, with so many people, if she acted, she and “Steal Kasaya” would die together.
If she didn’t act, “Steal Kasaya” would surely die.
Just as Fang Xiaocao was silently fretting,
Bang—
A sudden gunshot rang out.
One of the Dahan on the wall instantly fell.
“Ambush!”
Someone shouted loudly and immediately returned fire with their gun.
“Damn it, catch that damn woman!”
Someone else angrily shouted.
After that, the gunfire became more intense.
Every so often, one or two screams could be heard.
“How is this woman like a ghost?”
“Everyone, attack together, kill her!”
People from the Pawnshop shouted.
A few more Dahan on the wall had died.
The rest, no longer caring about jumping into the courtyard to find out what had happened, immediately leaped down to join in the pursuit of Hummingbird.
Seeing this scene, Fang Xiaocao breathed a sigh of relief.
Listening to the gunshots moving farther away outside,
Fang Xiaocao guessed that Hummingbird had led the people from the Pawnshop away.
Fang Xiaocao didn’t rush outside but instead quietly listened for a while. When she was certain there was no one left, she crawled out of the haystack.
Now, she needed to go support Hummingbird.
To sneak up on those Pawnshop people from behind.
Fang Xiaocao climbed onto the wall and surveyed the area below, the Pawnshop people had all left, not even a car watchman was left behind.
Fang Xiaocao didn’t bother with the “Steal Kasaya” inside the house and leaped off the wall.
She glanced at the messy footprints on the ground.
Fang Xiaocao immediately followed the direction of the departing footprints and swiftly chased after them…
What do you think?
