Chapter 422: Chapter 410: Thanks to you, otherwise we would probably all die on the battlefield

“What a pity, had it not been for the Holy Maiden of the Church blocking the way, you alone could have annihilated the entire imperial expedition force!” Rafael expressed his regret.

At his side, Ailoke curiously asked, “Headmaster, why haven’t we seen you use such powerful magic before?”

“‘Sunshine Blessing’ requires quite particular weather conditions, and it only has a good effect the first time it’s used,” Lynn explained.

Had the situation not been urgent, he had intended to save it for a more critical moment.

After all, though the magic was powerful, it took a long time to prepare, and it had many drawbacks, such as needing clear weather, and the light being refactable, transmittable, and absorbable.

The enemy wasn’t foolish; after suffering a loss once, they would certainly be on guard.

This time, the laser he fired had been bounced back.

Clearly, the Church had learned its lesson and had found a way to counteract laser magic.

Of course, Lynn did not believe that the enemy was capable of creating a mirror that could reflect light one hundred percent. As long as the intensity of the laser was high enough, even a reflective mirror would be sliced open in an instant!

“Go inform Ryder and the rest to set off immediately towards the Mist Territories!” Lynn stood up and spoke seriously.

Although he had temporarily repelled the Church’s attack, he did not discount the possibility of the enemy’s pursuit; they needed to rush reinforcements immediately.

Rafael and the others all nodded in agreement. In fact, they had been planning to leave Steel City today, and all their supplies had already been prepared in advance!

With the need to establish communication bases and conduct daily patrols, nearly forty percent of the airships were dispatched for these tasks. The force they had was left with only forty airships, not enough to transport the tens of thousands of people at once.

After a brief discussion, Lynn quickly made a decision. He and Rafael would take an airship, leading a portion of the troops to the destination first, then Ryder and the two high wizards would follow slowly with the remaining forces.

Steel City Welsel was approximately one hundred fifty-nine kilometers in a straight line from the imperial border territories. A normal march with detours around mountains and rivers would require several days, but traveling by airship took just over an hour!

Along the way, reports from various parts of the kingdom were continuously transmitted to the receivers through electromagnetic communication technology and then translated.

Rafael couldn’t help but marvel at the convenience of this device. Messages sent from any location could be spread across the entire kingdom in minutes!

All of the messages essentially boiled down to two things.

The first was that their airships patrolling the kingdom-imperial borders were all in good condition, meaning that the Church’s expedition force had sneaked into their protection circle without being able to remove these ‘nails’.

This slightly eased Lynn’s mind. To construct this defensive line that spanned the kingdom and prevent sneak attacks, he had put in a lot of effort. The patrol trajectory and position of each airship were carefully designed to ensure interlocking fields of defense, and they needed to communicate with one another at regular intervals.

Unless the enemy could erase a large area’s worth of airships in an instant, there would surely be a message getting through.

The second was that Harrov had already led his people to retreat into a previously conquered imperial town, ready to hold out and await reinforcements.

When the airship landed within the town, a group of Wizards was busily reinforcing the city walls. Upon seeing Lynn, they bowed respectfully in greeting.

“Master Lynn, we really owe you a lot this time. Otherwise, most of us would have probably died on the battlefield,” Sanchez approached and patted Lynn on the shoulder, speaking with heartfelt gratitude.

Had Lynn not arrived in time, Sanchez had been ready to make a last stand, a decision that clearly meant certain death.

“There’s no need for such formalities. Facing the blockade of the Empire and the Church, everyone must give their all,” Lynn shook his head, implying their high-end

Then Lynn inquired about the casualties of the war.

“It’s more severe than we anticipated,” Sanchez said with a bitter smile. “A good twelve hundred have fallen, and over three thousand seven hundred are injured.”

Which meant that over half of the ten thousand-strong musketeer brigade were casualties, and furthermore, they had lost a significant amount of cannons and firearms.

“I suppose they’ve already seized those weapons!” Sanchez said grimly, as this was his greatest concern.

Since they left Wizard Land, despite the extreme ferocity of the Capital Defense War, they had still managed to achieve victory, so there was previously no need to worry about this matter.

But now it was different; so many weapons falling into enemy hands could likely lead to them being replicated.

“It doesn’t matter, I’ve already melted down the cannons and armored vehicles. As for muskets, a basic weapon like that is impossible to keep secret forever. It is just a matter of time before the enemy figures it out. We just need to ensure that we are much faster than the enemy in terms of weapon innovation and upgrades!” Lynn was quite philosophical about it.

He was well aware that simple weapons like flintlock muskets and airships could eventually be produced by the elites of the Empire and the Church if they were willing to put in the effort and time.

The reason there hadn’t been any movement on this front was simply because there wasn’t enough time, coupled with the fact that the bishops of the Church were all focused on perpetuating feudal superstitions, truly believing these were the works of demons.

Of course, for something a bit more technical like an internal combustion engine, considered “advanced equipment,” they wouldn’t be able to produce it without plans, no matter how hard they racked their brains.

As he spoke, Sanchez led everyone into a manor house.

This was the estate of a minor Earl of the Empire; when they first came from the kingdom with their troops, the Earl packed up his belongings and fled, leaving not a single guard behind. They took over the entire city without a fight.

However, the manor had now become a temporary command center and a place for treating the wounded. In the spacious grounds, many tents were set up, with herbalists busily concocting Magic Potions; from time to time, one could hear the sounds of anguished groans.

“I wonder when the war will ever end,” Johnny, following behind the two, sighed as he looked toward the tents.

“Probably when we completely defeat the Church!” Ailoke said with aspiration. “We will pull the gods from the firmament, build spires of the Wizards in every corner of this land, spread knowledge, eradicate ignorance, and cast the glory of Magic across the breadth of the earth!”

These were the typical propaganda slogans the Council used in the war, and they resonated powerfully with many ambitious and spirited young Wizards.

“There will be a day like that!” said Ailoke with conviction.

Lynn nodded and smiled. “Perhaps soon, if we are successful in this battle.”
