Chapter 2158: Right Choice.
A single use of the Sever divine ability costs 4 units of spiritual energy to use. As a normal rank 2 killer, they should only have 20 units of spiritual energy in total.
So they can only activate Sever a maximum of five times. Death Marks also require 1 unit of spiritual energy, which further reduces how many times they can use Sever.
If they use each activation of Sever to attack at least two times, then they will be able to accumulate the six death marks they need by activating Sever three times. That way they would have only spent 18 units of spiritual energy.
So they should have 2 units of spiritual energy left after their combination attacks. It is reasonable that they are already worn out and finish what they started.
Fortunately, they were not fighting alone. The sergeant took advantage of the situation by casting his own Shackles divine ability on the giant.
Now that the giant is near death, it doesn't have any chance of breaking the chains of a rank 3 judge. Then the sergeant and the remaining lamp bearer ganged up on it and began to beat it.
The giant couldn't resist or retaliate. It was beaten to death quickly. The mutant killer had also died. But it took someone else down with it.
The mutant killer was rank 3. Yet, in a fight with a rank 3 judge and three other rank 2 lamp bearers, it managed to kill two of the rank 2 lamp bearers before it died.
The mutant traveler only managed to kill one person before it died. It grabbed the person and ran away with their skin. This was the rank 3 divine ability of the pathway of traveling called Skin Tear.
Skin Tear is the first attacking ability of travelers. It is also the only one they will have for a long time. They can take people's skin with them as if they want to help the person to run faster by dragging them along.
Unfortunately, only the skin of the person is dragged with them. The level of damage is dependent on the spiritual power plus the speed of the traveler and the spiritual power plus other defensive mechanisms of the enemy.
Because the mutant traveler possessed speed bordering on rank 5, the rank 2 lamp bearer whose skin was grabbed got to experience what the attack of a rank 5 being would feel like.
The woman's entire skin was pulled away from her. Her body was bloody in an instant. Nerve endings and blood vessels were torn apart.
The shock alone was enough to kill her. She was first stunned by the shock. Then she fell down dead with her eyes wide open as if she just saw the most frightening thing ever.
She didn't even cry out in pain. Her heart stopped and she was dead before she hit the ground.
Legion's scalp tingled when they saw this. They thought to themselves grimly, "Even burn victims don't suffer so much."
This was why they didn't want to fight the mutant traveler. It was just too fast for them to fight. They will have to do their best or die.
But if they do their best, they will expose their secrets. So they avoided it.
Even though the rank 3 mutant traveler was fighting a rank 4 judge and was on fire, it was still able to kill a lamp bearer before dying.
Things would have been much worse if there had been no rank 4 judge to hold it back. Legion was sure that it would have gone on a killing spree.
The irony of the situation was that the murder of the lamp bearer was what finally pushed the traveler to death. The unforgivable sin of killing a lamp bearer caused the Fire of Sin burning on the traveler to intensify and turn it into dust.
The traveler still wanted to kill, but it became too weak. It fell to the ground and was burned to dust. All that was left of it was the divine flesh. who had begun to crawl towards the nearest living thing in search of a host to mutate.
That ended the fight. But Captain Sheckel didn't look happy that the fight had ended. Her face was cold as she said, "Clear the scene."
The sergeants moved into action on her command. They began directing the other lamp bearers to extract and store the divine flesh.
Legion thought that the fight had gone well. After all, the lamp bearers lost four rank 2 godclads while they gained three rank 3 divine flesh.
The lamp bearers still had the divine flesh of the four lamp bearers that died. So apart from the loss of manpower, they didn't lose anything.
In fact, the lamp bearers earned so much in divine flesh that it more than made up for the loss of the four inept or unlucky lamp bearers who died. At least that's what they think.
The other lamp bearers didn't think so. They were unhappy with the outcome of the fight, so the atmosphere was gloomy.
As if things weren't bad enough, Captain Sheckel soon got word that mutants had appeared somewhere else. This time they were two mutants, not three.
Captain Sheckel's gloomy face became even more strained. She thought to herself, "At this rate, we will be ground down to nothing in a month."
A dark voice that she had managed to bury awakened and asked her, "What will it be? Protect your subordinates or protect the people?"
She replied without hesitation, "I will protect the people. That is my job and my duty. That is also their job and duty as lamp bearers."
The dark voice laughed evilly and, "We shall see."
Its voice echoed in her mind over and over again. Then it became silent.
Her inner demon didn't argue with her, but she knew that it hadn't given up. It was just waiting for the outcome of her decision to crush her.
This made her sigh in frustration.
What do you think?
