Chapter 2145: Pain Tolerance.
The rank 2 divine flesh didn't merge with the rank 1 divine flesh already within him. Instead, it appeared beside it and above Legion-1, Legion-2, and Legion-3. So two of the three clones in charge of the pathway now have to carry two pieces of divine flesh for the pathway.
While this was going on, his body was shifting. There was no large-scale change to his physique, but his skin was squirming as if something was crawling beneath it.
On the surface, only his skin was changing. But within him, his skin, blood vessels, internal organs, and even bones were being changed by the divine flesh. This process was very painful.
The pain of the change of one's existence plus the temptation from the divine flesh and the increased pressure from the extra divine flesh in one's existence are the dangers godclads have to face when they advance.
This danger is so high that many people die during the process of ascension. For most of those who don't die during the ascension to rank 2, they can only survive one more round of this at best. This is why the bulk of godclads are rank 3 and below.
About 90% of the population of godclads are rank 3 and below. Only 10% are rank 4 and above. These 10% that have survived four rounds of assimilation are not to be underestimated at all.
Legion was thinking about this as well as the fact that they could escape from the chains if they wanted to. They were wondering how fast they would be able to escape by unlocking their other pathways and producing many arms.
This was how easy the process was for them. Others would be fighting for their dear life with all they have, but they were thinking about what a joke it was to think it was safe to tie them down with chains.
They weren't bothered by the pressure of the new divine flesh at all because their existence could adapt to it. The temptation from the divine flesh was also fleeting and quickly resolved thanks to their innate ability.
The only thing that they couldn't prevent was the pain caused by the changes to their existence. But they didn't mind that too much because they were not strangers to pain.
As entities that had been burned by an Absolute more than once, they had built up quite the pain tolerance. They even have the presence of mind to consider how they would escape from the sealed room if they were forced to.
Meanwhile, outside the room. The custodian and the captain were waiting for the outcome of the assimilation.
The captain murmured, "Rank 1 to rank 2 in 20 days. That has to be a record."
The custodian wondered to himself, "That's strange. I could have sworn that he had two pathways. Something about him was off during the tests. It seems I was thinking too much."
He was suspecting Legion of having more than the pathway of killing because Legion appeared to have more spiritual energy than normal. But if that were the case, Legion's extra pathway should have shown itself during his vulnerable state in the assimilation.
He was thinking about this when he heard what the captain said. What she said made him chuckle and say, "I knew that he was special when he passed the test of willpower with one try. I even tested him two times, all to no avail. His mind is strong and very determined."
Captain Sheckel nodded in agreement. "Yeah, he is determined. I have noticed that. But that might not be a good thing."
The custodian didn't agree with her. He rolled her eyes and said, "Forget about him. He looks to be doing well and has mastered his ability to a certain extent. At least he has some intuitive understanding of how to use it well. So don't worry about him. Worry more about yourself.
That silenced whatever complaint she wanted to make about Levi. What the custodian had said about worrying about herself was the truth. She truly had a lot to worry about.
She decided to change the subject. She said, "The Ivory family has been trying and failing to find where Levi lives. Shawn even came up to Levi yesterday, practically asking to know where he lives. Levi refused and complained to me. What do you think I should do about it?"
The custodian snorted and said, "I don't like these noble families. They are shifty and underhanded. If it were up to me, the lamp bearers would be in control of the town."
Captain Sheckel chuckled. "We can't be in control of the town. Between making sure that the town gets 50% of the energy water supply and patrolling the surrounding settlements, we don't have the manpower for protecting the borders of the town too."
The custodian shrugged and said, "Whatever. Just make sure to punish that Shawn. Give him a tedious work that will preoccupy him. It is said that an idle hand is the devil's workshop. If you give him something to do, I bet he won't have time to mess around."
Captain Sheckel considered his suggestion and said with a sigh, "You make a good point. But it will be difficult to execute because whatever tedious thing I give him will probably be important. If it is important, then odds are that the Ivory family will know about it. I don't trust him with something important."
The custodian shook his head and said, "Whatever you do, just make sure to punish him heavily. You must do it to punish him for what he did and to boost Levi's confidence in us. The boy is fighting against the Ivory family right now. We should support him lest he succumb to temptation and be led astray."
Captain Sheckel nodded in understanding and became silent as she thought about what punishment to give Shawn. The custodian was also silent so as not to disturb her train of thought.
What do you think?
