Chapter 939: Chapter 824: Buddha and Demon
As the people on the ground scattered in panic, countless Fire Phoenixes also scattered, pursuing the fleeing crowd. Those Fire Phoenixes that penetrated or touched people would directly return and merge into that sky-reaching pillar of fire. Sun Wukong understood clearly, the Primordial Honor was increasing his own strength. Sun Wukong naturally would not let the Primordial Honor succeed, took a deep breath, gathered all his strength, wielded his Jingu Bang, and charged upward again, while a layer of colorless halo appeared around his body; all the Fire Phoenixes that touched that halo instantly vanished.
Yet, even with Sun Wukong’s full-powered strike of his staff, it did not seem to cause any significant damage to the sky-reaching fire pillar. Apparently, the Primordial Honor was going all out, and perhaps the sky-reaching fire pillar had already fused with the Primordial Honor’s last ounce of strength; otherwise, its defense wouldn’t be so strong. Seeing the continuous return and integration of Fire Phoenixes into the fire pillar, Sun Wukong knew he couldn’t delay any longer.
Retrieving his Jingu Bang, Sun Wukong first shouted to Xi Zhao, “Xi Zhao, try to stop the Primordial Honor, I need some time!” At this juncture, there was no way to consider anything else, or care too much, as long as defeating the Primordial Honor was possible, no matter the cost, it was worth it.
If he could exchange his life for the lives of his master, Bajie, old Sha, the White Dragon, and others, it would be enough. It’s just a pity, he broke his promise again, the Pangu Realm, perhaps he couldn’t return, Flower Fruit Mountain, naturally couldn’t return either. The people waiting for him at the mountain top, would they continue to wait?
Shaking his head, Sun Wukong dispelled all emotions, he now needed to focus entirely. His right hand, after rapid recovery during this time, could move, but that’s all; movement didn’t mean he could fight. Raising his right hand awkwardly, placing one palm on his chest, he made a gesture often made by monks, while his left hand rose high, forming a sword finger. Sun Wukong’s current actions were indeed strange, seeming somewhat out of place.
As Sun Wukong assumed this pose, a golden light suddenly rose from his body, filled with an aura of majesty and solemnity. With the golden light’s appearance, Sun Wukong was gradually turned golden; it felt like this golden light was very similar to the Golden Body of the Buddha, indeed, as the golden light dyed half the sky golden, a spectral image of a Buddha gradually appeared around Sun Wukong.
It was a sitting Buddha, initially just a few circles larger than Sun Wukong, yet the apparition of Buddha grew against the wind in just a few breaths of time, swelling to a hundred zhang. The likeness of this Buddha was unseen by anyone; it wasn’t like anyone, yet it possessed all characteristics of the Buddhist Sect’s Buddha: uprightness, peace, dignity, solemnity; impervious to all evil, untouched by all ghosts and demons.
One could say, at this moment, Sun Wukong was the most sacred and pure existence in the world, transcending any Buddha or Dao before. The mixture of three forces within his body engendered a new Primordial Force that drove the Buddha’s power within him, making Sun Wukong the Buddha with the most formidable Buddha’s power throughout the cosmos. Bear in mind, Sun Wukong was already a Buddha, the Fighting and Victorious Buddha.
The Lamp Transmission Record stated: “In the Western, there is a Buddha, whose form is sixteen zhang and golden-colored.” North History said: “At the time, the Shu monk Fa Cheng led several thousand monks to cast a sixteen zhang Golden Body.” One of the three bodies of Buddha refers to the small body in the transformative body; since it was about sixteen zhang tall and appeared true gold, it was called the sixteen zhang Golden Body. However, Sun Wukong’s Buddha Golden Body, now a hundred zhang high, had surpassed the range of the large body within the transformative body among the three-body of Buddha’s forms.
Moreover, after the appearance of this unfamiliar-looking Buddha, on its left and right sides, two more Buddhas suddenly manifested. On the left, a Buddha wearing a Buddhist robe, yet this Buddha was completely in Sun Wukong’s likeness, truly Sun Wukong’s Fighting and Victorious Buddha’s real form, the appearance when he was crowned Fighting and Victorious Buddha at the Western Paradise Sacred Mountain. On the right, however, wasn’t a Buddha, but a giant ape.
Indeed, on the right, it was Sun Wukong’s Heaven-Supporting Giant Ape’s real form, which was also Sun Wukong’s truest likeness. Three enormous hundred-zhang spectral images sitting back-to-back with legs crossed, the Dharma Body solemn, even the real form of the Heaven-Supporting Giant Ape bore a facial expression of solemnity. The appearance of these three Buddhas was by no means simple. The middle unfamiliar Buddha, named Nirmanakaya, also called Transformative Body, was formed from the fusion of all intentions from the faith in the heart of the one becoming Buddha. In other words, this unfamiliar Buddha’s appearance was what Sun Wukong wanted to present before all after becoming Buddha.
The Sun Wukong clad in Kasaya on the left, was the Sambhogakaya, also known as the Enjoyment Body, the body Sun Wukong most frequently used, which was the appearance he often displayed to people. The real form of the Heaven-Supporting Giant Ape on the right, named Dharmakaya, also known as the Nature Body, was Sun Wukong’s most fundamental appearance.
These three Buddhas were all Sun Wukong, united as one, named the Three Bodies. It’s the manifestation of the ultimate concentration of Buddhist Law; the appearance of these three bodies indicated Sun Wukong had driven his Buddha power to its utmost. Crucially, all three bodies were Sun Wukong, and appeared simultaneously, unprecedented in Buddhism. Know that the three bodies of Buddha are not unified, but are different Buddhas.
For instance, in the Pangu Realm, Dharmakaya Buddha was Vairocana Buddha, representing the embodiment crystallized from Buddhist reality (Buddhist Law). Sambhogakaya Buddha was Lushana Buddha, representing the body enjoying the fruit of Buddha through practice and holding a Buddhist kingdom (Pure Land). Nirmanakaya Buddha was also known as Transformative Buddha, i.e., Shakyamuni Buddha, pointing to the various incarnations displayed by Buddha attending to beings according to circumstances.
These three Buddhas aren’t unified, nor the same Buddha. Hence, it is evident how immense was Sun Wukong’s Buddhist power of what becoming Buddha. Tang Sanzang, who had distanced, felt the vast oceanic Buddha power emanating from Sun Wukong’s side. Though he didn’t turn back, his face was full of tears; Wukong, he ultimately accepted my Buddha. All along, although Sun Wukong nominally was the Buddhism’s Fighting and Victorious Buddha, ranked among the thirty-five Buddhas alongside Tang Sanzang, and a disciple to Tang Sanzang, it would seem he was a figure within Buddhism.
But Sun Wukong himself never acknowledged the identity, when speaking to others, Sun Wukong always claimed to be Great Sage Equalling Heaven Sun Wukong, rather than Fighting and Victorious Buddha Sun Wukong. Furthermore, throughout Sun Wukong’s battles, he never used Buddhism, always relying on himself when fighting.
Tang Sanzang never spoke of it, but inside he felt regret. Tang Sanzang devotedly seeks Buddha, yet his disciple refused to acknowledge the identity of Buddhist Disciple. However, now, feeling the vast, majestic, solemn, merciful Buddha power from Sun Wukong, how could Tang Sanzang not shed torrents of tears?
Being present with the Three Bodies of Buddha shows Sun Wukong’s heart inclines towards Buddha. With the full display of the Three Bodies, the Buddha power exuding from Sun Wukong had reached its peak. Yet, the momentum dispersed from those three Buddhas continued surging, arousing doubt and uncertainty in everyone sensing this aura, “What is Sun Wukong doing? If it keeps going like this, Sun Wukong’s physical body might explode and die; is it possible he’s been possessed by magic?”
As everyone unconsciously slowed their steps and turned back to watch Sun Wukong, they suddenly realized something amiss. Upon sensing, everyone was utterly surprised, especially Tang Sanzang, who was already in shock. Then, they saw once Sun Wukong’s Three Bodies’ aura rose to its peak, it continued surging, then the momentum that burst through its peak suddenly inverted, along with the boundless Buddha power radiated from Sun Wukong’s three manifestations.
Most evidently, the three Buddhas that originally radiated infinite golden light suddenly began emitting strands of violet light. Initially, the violet light wasn’t clear but started corroding the golden light at a steady pace. Moreover, the violet light contained extremely concentrated Demon Qi.
What was happening? Could it be that Sun Wukong had indeed turned possessed by magic? That boundless Buddha power was now being continuously eroded by Demon Qi? At the moment everyone was dumbfounded, the golden light radiated from the three Buddhas entirely turned violet, dim violet, tainting the three solemn Buddhas with violet, making them look incredibly sinister.
Moreover, the three Buddhas began slowly revolving. Initially, it was the unfamiliar Buddha in the center, but as the three Buddhas rotated, the Heaven-Supporting Giant Ape’s spectral image spun to the center. Besides, deep violet demonic patterns began spreading across the Heaven-Supporting Giant Ape’s face, as those patterns emerged, limitless Demon Qi began proliferating.
What, what on earth was happening? From absolute brightness to utter extremity of demonic, the three Buddhas with golden bodies in a blink became three Buddhas with violet demonic bodies, Sun Wukong, what was happening with him?
