Chapter 82: The Ball
Chapter 82: The Ball
Steven glanced at his phone and froze upon confirming it was Cecilia’s number calling.
‘This woman, what outrageous things is she saying?!’
Her hidden thoughts just lay out so plainly...
She wanted him...
But he needed some time to prepare!
He moved his lips, about to respond, when he suddenly caught the unfinished sentence from Cecilia.
"... Your son."
Steven: ?
All along, she wanted his son?
No, what did she want with his son?
Why was she always focused on other people’s sons?
How about looking at him?
"Cecilia, are you serious?"
But in response, he only got a busy tone.
Cecilia had already fallen fast asleep.
Steven was completely baffled, finding Cecilia harder to understand by the day.
This kind of situation, beyond his ability to analyze, left him feeling uneasy.
He got up and opened Ethan’s room door. Ethan was in the middle of an intense game battle. As Steven walked in, Ethan instinctively paused his actions, but he was stopped by Steven.
"Big brother, is there something you need?"
"Not really important, you keep playing. I just wanted to ask for a friend. If a woman is always eyeing a man’s son and seems to want him, what’s the reason?"
Ethan’s eyes spun as he understood the implication.
"Hmm... based on my analysis, Miss Morrison probably, maybe, wants to be Alex’s mom."
"Why would she want to be Alex’s mom?"
Ethan had a knowing look, but he didn’t spell it out.
"Maybe... she likes you?"
‘Alex, Emma, this is the only way I can help you.’
Steven’s heart skipped at that, but he caught Ethan with a mischievous, gossip-hungry smile, and quickly composed himself.
"Why are you talking about Miss Morrison? I said it’s for a friend."
Ethan said mischievously, "... Big Brother, do you even have friends?"
Caught, Steven glared at Ethan.
"Seems like you don’t want your allowance this month..."
"No, no, no, just kidding..."

A few days later, on the day of the graduation ball.
Cecilia observed the slightly nervous Diana, patting her on the shoulder to reassure her.
"Your solo skills are strong, no need to worry."
Diana’s gaze was firm as she nodded heavily.
Initially, they had planned to perform a duet, but the day after sobering up, she called Cecilia.
She said she wanted to perform alone, as Richard used their partnership to threaten her; she wanted to show she would excel even more by herself.
As for Rainy, she didn’t want to trouble Cecilia, preferring fair competition with her classmates, so she declined Rainy’s coaching.
This was better; Cecilia only messaged Rainy, requesting the latter not to guide Selina.
After dressing simply, Cecilia headed to the ball with Diana.
The venue was dazzling with handsome men and beautiful women, as well as industry leaders gathered around.
The ball’s rules were simple too: those not participating in the graduation performance needed to find their name badges at the entrance and place them in the basket of the student they favored by the end of the event.
Each badge was a point, and the final number of badges each student received would be their final score.
While finding her badge, Cecilia noticed several red badges that stood out, as everyone else had white ones.
Diana, noticing her confusion, explained, "The red badges belong to the hosts."
Cecilia understood, pausing for a moment on a red badge with "Susan Whitmore" written on it.
"Whitmore..."
"The Whitmore Family is also a host, but the family head is seriously ill, and the eldest son is too busy, so they sent the family head’s foster daughter, Susan Whitmore, to attend this ball."
‘So she’s his foster daughter.’
Cecilia raised an eyebrow, picked up her badge, and entered the venue.
Inside, they saw Selina clinging to Richard’s arm, greeting the various big shots.
They really did look like a pair.
Cecilia glanced at Diana, who shrugged.
"Annoying, let’s go sit in the corner, Cecilia."
Cecilia nodded. Just as they were about to move, Selina blocked their way.
"Diana, you’re here!"
She said, looking Diana up and down.
"Heard you’re performing solo today, what, Rainy didn’t come to guide you?"
Diana coldly responded.
"No. Is there something you need?"
Selina covered her mouth with an exaggerated laugh.
"Impossible, you really boast, then today you..."
A girl beside Selina agreed, "Just wait to embarrass yourself, our Selina received several lessons from Rainy."
Cecilia was taken aback; didn’t she ask Rainy not to guide her?
"Are you sure Rainy guided you?"
Selina snorted.
"Of course, Rainy likes me a lot! She even said she’d take me as her last disciple!"
As she said this, Cecilia’s phone received a message.
It was from Rainy.
"Master, I’m almost at the ball!"
What do you think?
