Chapter 120 - 120 The Wicked Accuse First
Chapter 120: Chapter 120 The Wicked Accuse First
After Wu Yingrui left, the atmosphere at the venue once again became harmonious and joyous.
However, today’s banquet was destined to leave an indelible impression on them.
By the time the banquet finally ended, Qiao Yi was so exhausted she practically collapsed. After seeing off the last guest, Qiao Yi could no longer hold herself up and slumped into a nearby chair.
“My ancestor, why are you still here? Everyone’s waiting for you!”
Feng Siyu hurried over. Seeing Qiao Yi slumped over in her chair like a dead dog, she immediately dragged her up and out of the chair.
“My dear sister, can I please go change my clothes? This dress is killing me!”
“Don’t waste your breath, everything is prepared in the car. Tonight, you better be ready to not return until you’re absolutely plastered!”
The daytime birthday banquet was hosted for the prominent families of Capital City to see, but the wild evening party was specially arranged by Qiao Yi’s friends for her.
After informing her parents and Old Mr. Lu, Qiao Yi was half-dragged and half-carried by Feng Siyu into the car, and kidnapped away in that manner.
Old Mr. Lu chuckled as he watched the playful figures of the brother and sister receding into the distance, a trace of nostalgia appearing in his eyes.
“Young people really have the energy. We older ones just end up being abandoned.”
Old Mr. Lu laughed, leaning on his cane as he got into the Lu Family’s car.
Mr. and Mrs. Qiao, initially worried that Qiao Yi going out right after her party might upset Old Mr. Lu, relaxed seeing how indulgently and dotingly Old Mr. Lu treated Qiao Yi.
Qiao Yi was truly born under a lucky star. She was pampered by them at home, and now that she’s married, her father-in-law dotes on her just the same; she’ll probably end up spoiled rotten sooner or later.
The Qiao couple was getting ready to leave when they turned around and saw Lu Yanchuan just finishing a phone call at the venue.
“Yanchuan, why aren’t you going with Yiyi to her friends’ gathering?”
“I’ve got some things to take care of first; I’ll join her once I’m done.”
With Lu Yanchuan’s reassurance, Mr. and Mrs. Qiao left contentedly.
Once nearly everyone had left, Lu Yanchuan was about to make arrangements for Uncle Peng’s accommodation but was stopped by Lu Xiaohua.
“Yanchuan, although it’s a matter of your personal feelings, I feel I must talk to you about it properly.”
Lu Yanchuan respected this sister of his and nodded, indicating for her to continue.
“Sister knows you don’t like Lingling. Although I once thought of pairing you two up, you’re married now, and of course, I wouldn’t let anyone disturb your relationship. But even if you don’t like Lingling, you shouldn’t just watch her get bullied without doing anything, right?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Lu Yanchuan frowned slightly, already feeling impatient at the mention of Bai Lingling’s name.
Had Bai Lingling not only splashed wine on Qiao Yi but now also gone running to Lu Xiaohua to play the victim first?
Though Lu Yanchuan wasn’t the most amicable person, and his temperament was frustrating to the point of grinding one’s teeth, he was still trustworthy in one aspect—he never lied.
Seeing the expression on Lu Yanchuan’s face, it was clear to Lu Xiaohua how much he detested Bai Lingling.
Although Lu Yanchuan never had much affection for Bai Lingling in the past, it had never reached this degree of loathing.
Could it be that something she was unaware of had happened?
“Lingling was splashed with red wine by Yiyi, you didn’t know?”
“No, it wasn’t Yiyi who splashed Bai Lingling with red wine, but Bai Lingling who splashed Yiyi with red wine. Yiyi’s dirty clothes are still in the changing room, and there’s surveillance footage in the venue.”
Lu Yanchuan directly shut down any possibility of Lu Xiaohua’s doubts and rebuttals. From Lu Xiaohua’s incredulous expression, it was clear that Bai Lingling had definitely not told the story this way to her.
Indeed, Bai Lingling didn’t tell Lu Xiaohua exactly that; she didn’t directly say it was Qiao Yi who spilled the wine on her. She vaguely mentioned that she had a conflict with Qiao Yi and accidentally stained her dress.
She even said not to let Lu Xiaohua be angry with Lu Yanchuan and Qiao Yi, blaming herself for the whole issue, alleging her presence had caused misunderstandings and so on and so forth…
Bai Lingling couldn’t have imagined that Lu Xiaohua would go directly to Lu Yanchuan with this matter. She intended for Lu Xiaohua to misunderstand Qiao Yi, thinking Qiao Yi was targeting her.
Who would have thought that Lu Xiaohua would not only feel nothing wrong with Qiao Yi’s actions but even confronted Wu Yingrui on Qiao Yi’s behalf?
That’s because Bai Lingling didn’t know what Lu Xiaohua and Lu Yanchuan had discussed. If she had known, she would have been furious.
Even if Lu Xiaohua hadn’t gone to Lu Yanchuan, things wouldn’t have turned out the way Bai Lingling had anticipated.
After all, in Lu Xiaohua’s eyes, there was nothing wrong with what Qiao Yi had done.
If another woman claimed to be her husband’s childhood friend and still harbored unrequited feelings for him, Lu Xiaohua guaranteed she would have done something far worse than spilling red wine… using sulfuric acid wouldn’t have been out of the question.
Which is why despite Bai Lingling having complained to her, Lu Xiaohua would still come forward to defend Qiao Yi.
But in this matter, someone had to be in the wrong. If Qiao Yi was not at fault and Bai Lingling felt aggrieved, Lu Xiaohua eventually decided to pin the blame on Lu Yanchuan.
If a grown man can’t even maintain this little balance in and out of the house, what good is he!
And so, the innocent Lu Yanchuan ended up shouldering the blame undeservedly.
“So, are you telling me that Lingling lied to me?”
Lu Yanchuan did not confirm or deny, instead, he called the hotel manager to show Lu Xiaohua the surveillance footage, and then he promptly left the hotel.
After settling matters with Uncle Peng, he still needed to find Qiao Yi.
Qiao Yi was completely unaware of the commotion at the hotel after he left; right now, she was enduring Han Zizhen’s excruciating singing.
Why would anyone who sings so horribly insist on being a karaoke hog!
Almost everyone shared the same thought as Qiao Yi, and after reaching a consensus, they joined forces to snatch the microphone from Han Zizhen’s hands, warning him not to touch the mic again.
After reclaiming the microphone, Feng Siyu volunteered to provide some ‘ear-cleansing’ for the crowd. Having Han Zizhen as a benchmark, they found everything else sounded celestial in comparison!
Originally, Han Zizhen wasn’t even on the invitation list, but because Han Wenle was coming to celebrate Qiao Yi’s birthday, he shamelessly tagged along.
As for why he insisted on following? Well, that’s a long story, which all began when they were at a hot spring resort in Jiang City…
What do you think?
