But today…
[Could he be cursed?]
Lady Eva looked puzzled at the bowed figure of Cordova in front of her, completely unable to fathom why this young man would block her recommendation for his promotion.
“If you had said this a month ago, Lady Eva, I would have been overjoyed.”
Motan exhaled lightly, shifting his gaze from her slender waist to the small cart filled with daily groceries at his feet. He subtly clenched his fists and murmured in a low voice, “But now… I fear I can no longer calmly watch your busy figure in this mansion as I did before.”
Eva froze for a moment, intuitively drawing vague connections under a woman’s unique sense. Her expression, however, remained cold and stiff as she asked faintly, “I don’t understand what you’re talking about, Mr. Cordova.”
“It’s understandable, dear Lady. After all, we are people from two different worlds. Even if I were fortunate enough to be Blood Owned in the future, I would ultimately remain a fleeting passerby in the long expanse of your life.”
Motan smiled bitterly, gripping the small cart with his white-knuckled hands from excessive force. As he resumed his steps toward the kitchen without turning back, he said, “In a month, I will formally resign. The days spent under the same roof with you will be the most cherished treasure of my entire life.”
Though his words were cryptic, the maid’s chief, intelligent and emotionally perceptive as she was, figured out their meaning within seconds of bewilderment. Almost instinctively, she called out to his retreating silhouette that had already moved several meters away, “Cord… Cordova, sir…”
‘Cordova’ paused ever so briefly in response—an infinitesimal beat loaded with unspoken emotion—but ultimately said nothing, turning past the small fountain at the mansion’s courtyard center and vanishing into the lingering haze beyond.
What do you think?
