Chapter 267

[Abyssal Space Maze – 3rd Floor, Holy Church Headquarters]

Wuuung, wuuung.

Stepping into the Gate, we were engulfed in light and transported to an unfamiliar place.

All around us was nothing but darkness.

An endless abyss stretched out in every direction.

The only thing visible was the dim, golden light flickering in the distance—like faint stars—and the stone platforms beneath our feet.

Kris glanced around with a confused expression.

“Are we really still inside the temple…? This feels like walking through space where nothing exists.”

We had already passed through countless Gates.

Just as Kris described, it felt like we were drifting through a void.

“It’s called a maze, but normal maze-solving logic doesn’t work here.”

“There’s no way to orient ourselves. No landmarks, nothing to guide us.”

The space itself was warped.

All we could do was step forward toward the nearest Gate in one of four directions—north, south, east, or west.

Each time we passed through a Gate, we would appear at the center of a new platform.

Or was it really a new platform?

We couldn’t tell.

It felt like we were wandering in circles, trapped in an endless loop.

“I’d rather be fighting a Named Boss than this.”

I was terrible at mazes and puzzles.

When I cleared Berbeia’s Ancient Temple, I activated every trap and just smashed every statue in my way to move forward.

“Alright, let’s take a look.”

While I sat gloomily on the ground, Kris paced around the area, examining the surroundings.

After about ten minutes of careful observation, she returned to me and helped me up.

“I think I got it. This space maze—it’s made up of floating circular platforms, and stepping through any of the warp Gates moves us to another platform.”

“But they all look the same. We can’t tell if we’re on a new platform or just looping back.”

“That’s why we leave marks, duh. Just track the Gates we’ve used and move forward.”

“But what if every Gate has a mark?”

“Hmm… I doubt it’s that cruel, but if that happens, we just increase the number of markers and keep heading toward the least marked direction. Eventually, we’ll reach the end.”

Kris gripped my hand and led me toward a Gate at the edge of the platform.

“Wait here for a sec.”

  • Choosing a direction
  • Stepping through a Gate first
  • Checking if the new area had marks
  • Marking the paths and picking the least marked route
