Chapter 11 - Double the Joy
Chapter 11: Double the Joy
“You want me to take care of this cub too?” Looking at the other cub the panda brought over, Lin Tian was utterly baffled.
What’s going on? It’s not just one cub—she wants me to raise both of them??
Not only was Lin Tian stunned, the livestream audience, witnessing this, was equally floored.
> “No way, is the panda giving both cubs to Brother Tian??”
> “Where’s the expert? Explain this!”
> “Didn’t they say she couldn’t raise both, so she’d let Brother Tian take one?”
> “This isn’t right!!”
> “Ahem, stop yelLin, even the expert’s confused now!”
> “But, both cubs for Brother Tian to raise? That’s double the joy, right?!”
> “Jealous!”
…
The audience was both shocked and envious.
Even Wang Jian nearby showed a look of envy.
Pandas were so adorable, and they were national treasures. If he could, he’d love to raise one too. Sadly, the panda mother ignored him, only offering her cubs to Lin Tian. At that moment, Wang Jian couldn’t help but envy Lin Tian’s animal affinity.
Meanwhile, Lin Tian, looking at the two panda cubs before him, felt a bit conflicted.
Sure, panda cubs were adorable, but he was a forest ranger, not a zookeeper! And, for the panda mother to hand over both cubs to him—wasn’t that a bit too irresponsible?
“You’re dumping both cubs on me to make things easy for yourself, huh?” Lin Tian speechlessly tapped the panda mother’s head.
The panda let out an “ow,” covering her round head and looking at Lin Tian with a hint of grievance. Then she shook her head and stubbornly nudged the cub into his arms.
Lin Tian was at a loss. She was dead-set on giving him both cubs. Glancing at the two cute, pink, mouse-like cubs in his arms, Lin Tian sighed. Fine.
Raising one was no different than two. It didn’t make a difference. It was just a matter of feeding them more milk. With his spiritual water, he wasn’t worried about keeping them alive.
“Alright, I’ll take care of your kids. When they’re grown, I’ll bring them back to find you.” Seeing the panda mother’s insistence, Lin Tian had no choice but to agree.
To protect them from the cold, he took off his jacket and carefully wrapped the two cubs in it. The cubs seemed accustomed to his scent. They curled up in his jacket, smacking their lips, snuggLin tightly against the fabric, sleeping comfortably and soundly.
“Aww, so cute.” Wang Jian looked at the cubs, a doting smile on his face. He wanted to play with them, but with the panda mother watching, he resisted the urge to reach out.
After wrapping the cubs, Lin Tian carefully placed them in the basket on his back.
“Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of your kids.” Lin Tian waved to the panda mother.
Then he said to Wang Jian, “Big Brother Wang, let’s go.”
“Mm.” Wang Jian nodded.
The two headed back the way they came. They still had two areas to patrol, but Wang Jian said it was fine. Those spots didn’t need daily checks. Once every few days were enough. They could go tomorrow.
…
“Lin Tian, you’re something else, saving two wild panda cubs. The bureau’s definitely gonna commend you for this.”
On the way back, Wang Jian glanced at the cubs in the basket, teasing Lin Tian with a grin.
Lin Tian shook his head; he didn’t care much about bureau accolades. He was more concerned about whether he could care for the two cubs properly. With spiritual water, he wasn’t worried about their food or health, but he still didn’t know much about panda habits. He’d need to brush up on panda-related books when he got back.
The two chatted as they walked. Suddenly, Lin Tian felt something off. Why were there rustLin footsteps behind them? He whipped around, and there was the panda mother, swaying her head, traiLin them from a distance.
“Ying?”
Seeing Lin Tian stop, the panda mother tilted her round head in confusion, as if asking, Why’d you stop?
Lin Tian: …
Why do you think I stopped? Isn’t it because you’re following us?
> “???”
> “Pfft, haha!”
> “No way, I thought the panda mom didn’t want to deal with her two kids.”
> “Turns out she wants to bring her kids and move in with Brother Tian!”
> “Pfft, ‘move in’ is the perfect way to put it!”
> “Brother Tian and the panda mom definitely have some secret hanky-panky!”
> “Confirmed!”
…
The livestream audience spotted the traiLin panda mother and burst into laughter.
Wang Jian turned and saw her too, slapping Lin Tian’s shoulder with a hearty laugh, “Lin Tian, animals really love you, huh. Looks like this panda wants to follow you home!”
Lin Tian: …
Looking at the panda traiLin behind, playing cute, Lin Tian sighed.
Fine, you’re a national treasure. I won’t argue with you.
…
With the panda determined to follow, Lin Tian had no choice. He let her trail behind. He figured, maybe she was just worried about her cubs. After a while, she might stop following.
But … when they reached the residence in their jurisdiction, Lin Tian turned around and found the panda mother still following.
Looks like she was truly set on sticking with him.
What do you think?
