Chapter 937 937: Conclusion
As big of a problem as Kanami was currently facing, her brother was dealing with the same issue twofold.
Calling his enemies abominations didn't begin to cover it.
Demonic vessels crudely spliced with genetic material that had to have been taken from Ziz and Behemoth.
'As if those two hadn't already had enough taken from them...'
The battle was beginning to reach the upper limits of what the Earth would deem acceptable.
Bekka had been hiding within the shadows ever since the brothers had shown up.
Her participation was contested by her husband, who insisted that he needed something to hit after the day he'd had.
And while Bekka had initially decided to listen to her husband's request, she was beginning to think that maybe she should step in.
But as soon as she formed the thought, she felt a single hand grab her by the waist.
"Let's wait a little bit longer, yeah?" Audrina smiled. "Give him some time to work off a little steam."
Bekka conceded as she relaxed her body. "It's getting dangerous... the aura of those two is unlike what I remember. It'll start to affect the whole world at this rate."
"Things won't get that far since I've already put up a barrier. Things will be fine."
Bekka still didn't look convinced. "They have no souls to burn anymore, dear. They can keep resurrecting through their own power, and this could literally go on forever."
While the lower-level unaltered demons were returning to the lands from which they came upon 'death', these new higher-ranking demons didn't seem to have that requirement. They were beyond death now.
For some reason, Audrina seemed particularly confident that Bekka's worry would not come to pass. "Just relax. I would be willing to bet an obscene amount of money that things won't actually go that far."
"Are you sure?" Bekka raised a suspicious brow.
"As long as Seras doesn't wake up." Audrina grinned back.
Bekka shuddered as she considered the likelihood of Seras waking up before the fights were over.
If that happened, then the biggest danger to Abaddon's life would come from their own marital bed.
-
Abaddon was barely aware of the fact that someone had put up a barrier around him while he was in the midst of his fight with Lucifer and Beelzebub.
Recently, things had taken such a dramatic turn that he couldn't really be bothered to focus on anything else.
Lucifer flew threw the air on golden wings of burning flame. He circled the battlefield where Beelzebub was presumably crushing their enemy with torrential force.
For a moment, Lucifer took his eyes off of the battlefield.
Around the time he transformed, this barrier had gone up around their surroundings.
He didn't feel Abaddon activate it. Which meant there was very likely a second player involved. Maybe since the beginning.
Lucifer hadn't forgotten that Abaddon wasn't the type to travel anywhere without his wives. He should have known that something was out of place when he saw him standing in the museum all by himself.
'Where are you...?'
Lucifer scoured the field for abnormalities but could find nothing majorly out of place.
When he looked back to where his brother stood, he found the large ball of lard flying towards him like a cannonball.
Lucifer didn't move fast enough to avoid his brother crashing into him, and both individuals struck the nearest wall like flies knocked out of the air.
"You big beast!" Lucifer snapped.
"It wasn't my fault! Look!" Beelzebub pointed more than two hundred meters below them.
A blur passed over Lucifer's face before his world went dark.
He felt an oppressive force grab him hard by the face and smash his head against another hard object. Likely his own brother's head.
'You fucking imbeciles...'
As if the day could not get any worse, Lucifer suddenly heard his master's voice in his head from out of nowhere.
Sweat began to drip down Lucifer's back. 'Master, I assure you that these circumstances are-'
'I don't care. You risk ruining my plans by revealing your new bodies ahead of schedule. We weren't ready yet!'
Lucifer and Beelzebub suddenly felt their body temperatures soar.
Abaddon must've noticed it too, because he quickly dropped the brothers to the ground.
As they fell through the air, the flames that made up their wings began to run rampant.
They spread all across their new bodies unchecked. The heat that they gave off was smoldering.
Abaddon's eyes narrowed as their screams reached his ears.
The only reason why someone like Percival would pull his uncles away from this conflict was if their being here would jeopardize his plans in some sort of way.
Abaddon couldn't let them leave. Or at least, not without getting something for his trouble.
"Stop."
Abaddon held out his hand, and time froze inside the dome.
Beelzebub and Lucifer were still on fire, but they were not being actively consumed. There was still enough of them left to salvage.
Abaddon floated down from the air and landed between the brothers. He placed his hands on both of their heads and closed all of his eyes except the one in his chest.
As the ominous iris glowed violet, Abaddon delved into the minds of his uncles against their will.
The demons were strong, and he could feel them trying to fight against his act of invasion. But Abaddon pushed deeper into their minds all the same.
Flashes filled his vision. Whispers echoed in his mind.
He saw mangled bodies. Heard tortured screams. Witnessed demonic skyscrapers in a land of gold and black.
His mind didn't snap into focus until he heard an accursed bleating that he knew all too well.
'Spoiling the surprises, Abaddon..? Naughty, naughty.' Percival's mocking voice said.
Abaddon felt his blood pressure soar again.
'Do you think that she can help you...? I will see you exterminated even if it costs me every iota of breath in my body.'
'Such dirty words. I can tell why you've got the entire upper realm wrapped around your fingers. But you'll have to work a little bit harder to make me kneel in front of you.'
Abaddon's lips curled in disgust. 'Everyone always says that. I've yet to be sufficiently challenged.'
'Oh, I was so hoping you would say that. Let's see just how much I can take from you before I see you next.'
-
Kanami was faced with a conundrum.
Her wounds weren't healing.
She recalled her nephew suffering an injury where a hole in his chest refused to close up after clashing with Percival.
Whatever concoction was within his body had apparently been given out rather freely.
While she could keep operating as a fighter, but the reality was that it was coming at a big cost.
"You have more spark than your father, girl, I'll give you that! But just like him, you are hardly worth your weight in gold!"
Mammon and Kanami continued to trade blows in the air. Blood rushing from a wound on Kanami's head had obscured her sight. She was fighting blind.
Luckily, her senses were adept enough that she could defend herself, and even attack back without compromising her safety.
Kanami was a battle-hardened warrior with years of experience. Mammon was an overconfident demon who let his first taste of strength go right to his head.
Kanami could keep him occupied for months if she had to.
But the problem was this poison running through her body.
Moving around like this only causes its spread to quicken.
And Kanami didn't have the leisure time to passively force the venom out of her pores amid her fight.
Even slowing the poison's spread to stop it from reaching her heart was taking a significant mental strain.
The only upside to this was that Mammon was also poisoned by her bite. And his right arm was barely hanging on.
But that didn't stop him from growing new limbs and continuing the battle. He wasn't allowing his rotting flesh to impede them.
"You don't seem so tough, Commander!" Mammon mocked. "After having my head filled with your legends for so long, I'm beginning to"
Mammon suddenly paused, and his eyes bulged out of his head.
At the first sign of an opening, Kanami swung her sword at his neck and decapitated him in one fell swoop.
Even without his head, Mammon was still functional. Almost like a dullahan.
Kanami sensed an immense panic coming from her enemy, but… she didn't think she was the source of it.
And then… Mammon spontaneously combusted.
Screams of agony had never sounded so sweet to Kanami's ears. Even if she hadn't been the one to bring them about.
While burning, Mammon's head rolled along the ground. He wept loudly, but his tears evaporated from the excessive heat.
"I-I'M SORRY, I'M SORRY!! PLEASE, DON'T BE ANGRY WITH ME, MASTER…!"
'What the fuck…?'
Kanami listened to Mammon's body burn to ash while he apologized to someone she couldn't see.
Until his body was reduced to ash, she didn't take her grip off her sword.
Even then, she waited patiently. Determined to notice even the slightest inclination of continued violence.
Kanami must've been far more exhausted than she thought. Because the second that she relaxed, she fell asleep while standing up.
What do you think?
