Jasmine Yale took a while to finish washing up, thinking that Chale Cheney had long finished his call. She stood at the bathroom door, drying her hands and called out, “Chale, come wash your face.”
Her voice was neither loud nor soft, but loud enough for Chale Cheney and the person on the phone to hear.
Instantly, silence fell on both ends.
Chale Cheney, knowing Elder Cheney was perceptive, quickly covered up, “Dad, the nanny is calling me, I’ll hang up first.”
With that, he promptly ended the call.
He wasn’t sure if Elder Cheney had heard Jasy’s voice, and if he had, he probably wouldn’t guess it was Jasy!
Jasmine Yale was stunned — was he still on the phone???
Suddenly, it was as if glue stuck her feet to the floor, unable to move.
