Chapter 916: Despair
Chapter 916: Despair
Jia couldn't move, couldn't think— her mind turned into a mess of images and memories, each one a fresh dagger in her heart, the time they spent together played in her mind again and again. The space itself seemed to spin around her, the colours blurring into a sickening wave of pain.
A sob, raw and piercing, burst from Eleanor's throat, tearing through the heavy silence. It was a sound of pure anguish, a cry sounding from the very depths of her soul. She fell back, her hands clutching at her stomach as if trying to hold herself together, to keep from shattering into a million irreparable pieces.
Xiao moved slowly, but it was a mechanical action, her body responding on autopilot. She reached for Alice, her body shivering while her mind remained unsure.
But as her fingers brushed against Alice's arm, she felt the agony radiating from her friend; her heart ached so much that she couldn't even breathe, and warm tears flowed down uncontrollably. Another sob escaped Xiao's mouth, a mirror to Eleanor's, as the reality of their loss crashed over her in a crushing wave.
All of them desperately tried to sense any signs of his life, even a wisp. But there was no comfort to be found, no respite from the unbearable weight of their grief.
The figure of the Rakshasa that silently stood there began to disappear, an undeniable proof of Jayden's death.
They cried, their tears flowing like rivers, wetting their clothes, dripping onto the ground. The salt stung their skin, a physical pain that paled in comparison to the aching emptiness inside them.
The nether world grew darker while flames became violent, as if the place itself was mourning Jayden's death, but none of them noticed.
The world had ceased to exist beyond the small space that now felt like a prison, trapping them in their sorrow. They didn't speak, didn't move. They simply sat there, lost in their own private hells, their hearts echoing with the silent screams of their despair.
Some distance away, Caleb, who had found all the happiness of the world just a few moments before the explosion, now looked shaken and sad. Before the explosion had resounded, light flashed in front of Caleb, taking him by surprise; but as he opened his eyes, he saw his family, back from the dead.
His wife and his brother both seemed as if they had just woken up from a long dream; they looked around in confusion. It was probably because when Jayden revived them, he had removed the last of their memories when Caleb had killed them.
Just like Jayden had promised to him, Caleb's family returned to him, but he couldn't enjoy it for long as he felt Jayden's death; despite not knowing a lot about him, even he was saddened to this extent, so he couldn't even understand what his family, who loved him so much, must be going through.
Time lost all meaning. It could have been minutes or hours since the explosion had shaken the universe, but it didn't matter. Nothing mattered anymore except the gaping hole in their lives, the absence that had become a physical presence, a void that could never be filled.
Sydney, who was nervously waiting for him to see him after such a long time and really turn their childhood relationship into a reality and become his bride, couldn't contain her sorrow as she just fainted from the overwhelming pain.
Their bodies shook with the force of their sobs, their breath coming in ragged gasps. The air was heavy with the scent of their tears, a constant reminder of their anguish. The silence was broken only by the occasional whimper or hiccup, the sounds of their broken hearts struggling to beat.
Jayden's mother, who wasn't even able to hold him in her arms since he was just born, felt her world crumbling; he was the last reason for her life. Now it all seemed so meaningless that she just wanted to be with her son even in death.
"H- Hubby… I- I" Alice's voice choked; this feeling was so painful. Her face had turned pale, looking as if she hadn't eaten anything for weeks. She clutched her head and released a scream, feeling as if her mind was being crushed.
"T- This cannot… be t- true, JAYDEN!!!" Anna was in denial.
He had worked so hard, suffered so much, and come so far; she had watched over him at each step; he even saved her from that gruesome fate and suffering, and now that it was finally time for them to unite, she actually wouldn't be able to see him ever again.
In the distant, Eve produced a melancholic sound, crying for the death of its master.
"B- Brother, where is—sob—my brother?" Emma cried, looking at the adult's face, hoping that she was wrong; but seeing their expressions only broke her heart further.
Sasha, Alice, Eleanor, Sophie, Xiao, Jia, Hecate, Sydney, Anna, Ada, Emma, Layla, Mulan, Liling, Ivy, Lisa, Aya, Lao, Hestia—all of his wives, concubines, and even maids—felt the despair.
The whole nether world was filled with melancholy; everything had ended.
Sophie prayed, asking for the impossible; even the witch of lies wasn't faring any better. She had loved him for so long, she wished to turn even this into a lie.
Alice, in hopes of meeting the person that mattered to her the most— the man she had loved more than anything, the husband she cherished more than her own life— almost made her body explode to take her own life, but the faint energy in her belly, which now seemed like a curse, stopped her; how could she kill their child.
Sensing Alice's chaotic emotions, Sasha unsteadily moved towards Alice. She fell to her knees and placed her shaky hand on Alice's shoulder, using all the energy in her body to stop her tears; then, in a choking voice, she spoke:
"You c- can't die, darling; w- wouldn't be happy otherwise, d- don't cry, haa, or i- it will affect the b- baby."
Alice broke down as she cried, pouring all her emotions, and fell into Sasha's arms, limply feeling as if all life had been taken away from her.

As soon as Jayden's body and soul were destroyed, the white room around them crumbled and the space began to repair itself.
The six women who had wanted to meet Jayden as soon as possible after finally sensing his presence in such a long time were rushing in his direction, but as Jayden had shifted into that white room, they were unable to locate him.
They were just looking around the place where the tournament had taken place but couldn't find a trace of Jayden. Soon, they felt the explosion as it made the space around them tremble, and then they sensed Jayden's presence, but only for a moment.
Without wasting even a moment, the six of them rushed in his direction. Their eyes grew worried as they glanced at each other, Jayden's presence becoming so weak that within a moment, they couldn't sense him at all. A painful feeling gripped their hearts, but they increased their speed and soon arrived at the destination.
"W- We were too late… H- He…" Luna's eyes widened as she saw the scene in front of her, her small hands clenching into fists and her eyes filled with tears.
