Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking

Chapter 620: Ensalving the Void

--

"Okay...I think I got it."

Cedric released a breath he didn't know he was holding. His shoulders slumped, and a trace of exhaustion flashed on his face, yet his eyes remained bright and somewhat relieved.

Although he stopped moving his arms and fingers from the work he was making, his mind remained active, double-checking every single detail, making sure the necessary requirements were fulfilled. He took his time with this because there can't be any mistakes; the stakes are too high for him to be careless.

"Okay, yeah. I definitely do." He muttered, "It's done. The enslavement seal is ready."

Yes, Cedric did it. After three whole years of locking himself up in this room, refusing to go out unless he finished the seal, he finally made it. The seal to enslave the main consciousness of the void has been created and is ready for use.

This could've taken him longer if he didn't have any additional material to rely on. For this, he had to thank his comrades' generosity and their act of letting him freely peruse their secret arts, allowing him to have a wider database to work with. Those definitely helped accelerate his research and creation of this seal.

Cedric stared at the seal for a moment, nodding and patting himself on the back for a job well done before storing it away safely. He then stretched his body, which had been stiff because of a long period of inactivity. His joints popped pleasantly, causing him to groan in satisfaction.

He then lifted the seal on the room and went out for the first time after three years, and the very first thing he did was to go to his wives.

"Oh, look who's here, ladies." Erica playfully rolled her eyes upon seeing him.

She's sitting with Chrissy and Isabella, enjoying a calm afternoon with desserts and coffee.

Cedric smiled sheepishly. He walked up to them and kissed them one by one before joining them.

"Is everything alright?" Isabella asked, her voice light and airy.

He nodded and told them that he had finished his work and that he could afford to rest for a little bit before making his final move.

"Will you be in danger?" Chrissy worriedly asked.

"Not really." He shook his head with a placating smile. "The seal I designed was special. It wouldn't put me in danger at all. You know me; I wouldn't do anything I'm not confident with."

And that's all his wives needed to hear; they didn't ask more because they had faith in him. Cedric has never gone back on his word, and they knew that he wouldn't start doing it now.

Thus, instead of reminding him of the stress, the ladies instead distracted him with their mundane matters to let his mind rest, and when night came, they joined him in bed, offering their warmth to comfort him, which he definitely appreciates greatly.

Just like this, he spent a whole month with them. He didn't go anywhere; he just stayed by their side and enjoyed the calm and peace of their surroundings.

Once he knew that he was fully rested and ready, he left, leaving a little note to let them know of his departure.

He will return, that's for certain. And thus, there was no need for tearful or emotional goodbyes.

**

Because this matter concerns the entire realm, the chancellors had to be here.

It's mostly because they too heard Tirso's revelation about the void. If it weren't for that, Cedric wouldn't even bother calling them here since he could take care of it by himself. Alas, they said that they wanted to be involved and be there when he makes a move, so they're here at the Heart of the Void, standing before the womb entrance where the main consciousness of the void was sealed.

"What do you need us to do?" Silas asked solemnly.

He and the other chancellors were prepared for a tough confrontation. One that might shake the entire void once it starts. They came here armed and ready; they're even prepared to die for the sake of the realm.

"Hmm, let's set up a perimeter for starters," Cedric suggested. "I will need to fiddle with the seal, and the main consciousness of the void will certainly feel that since it's paying close attention."

"It will definitely cause trouble, and we can't let it take control of the void again, so let's set up a buffer area here to limit its movement."

"..."

"..."

"Is that all?" The Primal Beast Chancellor looked strange, scratching his head in confusion.

"Yeah." Cedric nodded. "That's all for now. We improvise if things go out of hand, but that's not going to happen if I can help it, and you know me; I don't do anything unless I'm certain of it."

"But...that sounds too simple, no?" The Divine Celestial sounded concerned. "Not that I'm doubting your abilities, but shouldn't we be...I don't know, more careful?"

"Okay, let me explain how this is going to work." Cedric paused for a moment.

He took out something from his Inner World. It was a sword, a ceremonial sword. It looked beautiful and noble; it's adorned with gold, carvings, and jewelry but lacking in sharpness and killing intent. Just from a single look, it's clear that this sword wasn't meant for combat at all; it was a relic, and it couldn't be used like a normal sword.

"This is the seal." Cedric emphasized his message by caressing the ceremonial sword.

"All I need to do is to throw this out on the other side of this womb..." Cedric gestured at the sealed-up womb next to them, "...and it would begin unraveling the sealing matrix I applied to it, the same one that would enslave the main consciousness of the void."

"This sword is connected to me spiritually, so it doesn't matter where it goes; it will always sense its general location. Moreover, it has real-time sensory feedback with me but nothing too tactile that would endanger me in any way. The sword will inform me whether the enslavement was a success or a failure."

"So, all I need to do is lift the seal on the womb, very slightly, just enough to slip this sword in. Once it's there and the main consciousness of the void starts interacting with it, the sealing matrix will unravel and begin doing its job, and all we have to do here is wait for the result."

Cedric then looked at the Divine Celestial Chancellor and said, "It can't get any more careful than this."

Well...that certainly explains things.

No wonder he's being so casual about this. As it turns out, there's really nothing for them to worry about. There are hardly any risks at all; none of them would even have to go on the confrontation they've been preparing for all this while.

It certainly seemed anticlimactic and boring, but why choose the riskier option when there's a safe and secure one?

"Let's set up that perimeter anyway." Chancellor Igor stated, "Better to be safe than sorry. At the very least, we can't let it take back its control of the void."

After saying this, he grew to his true form. He roared and flooded the area with his chaos energy, severely weakening the void's presence around them. After he took action, the rest also followed.

When they're done, the heart of the void doesn't feel like it anymore. The presence of the void was so suppressed that even Cedric had a hard time detecting it, which was fantastic. With the void suppressed just like this, even if the main consciousness were to succeed in slipping out some of its tendrils in an attempt to take back control, it wouldn't be effective since the void was suppressed.

With all of these preparations set, Cedric nodded to them.

He then walked to the tomb and began lifting the seal he placed, just a little bit.

The moment he touched the seal, he knew that the main consciousness of the void felt it too, and it's now watching with rapt attention, waiting and anticipating. Cedric knew it's not making a move not because it was scared; it's because it doesn't know whether it's the Void Prince who's undoing the seal or someone else, and it didn't want to make a mistake.

That works for Cedric. And it's exactly that hesitation that brought him the chance to open the seal just big enough to slip the sword in and close the gap afterwards.

The main consciousness of the void sensed something coming in, and it was confused. But before it could think of anything else, the sword suddenly released a profound brilliance, one that the main consciousness of the void wasn't prepared for.

Before it could react to what was happening, the sealing matrix revealed itself and began working its magic. The main consciousness staggered, its thoughts coming to an abrupt halt.

It felt like something was taking over it, and it's happening fast. It was caught completely unprepared, rendering it helpless from the very beginning.

Its last thought was to ask its creator for help, but it was too late. The sealing matrix already invaded deep and immediately took control.

Sensing this, a grin appeared on Cedric's face. He turned to his comrades and said,

"It's done."
