Chapter 447: I got this

Whenever hunters spent the night outside the city there was one thing they feared above all else and it was nightfall. Needless to say, this also applied to rogue hunters because no matter how strong their traits were compared to their rank, they were still deenseless against unending hordes of enemies.

This wasn't the case for the rogue hunters in the ranger's outpost. They had electricity, booze, enough food to last them a year and now they even had women to keep them entertained, but all of that would be meaningless without the watchtower that allowed them to spot any cryptids before they became a threat.

"I can't wait for tonight..." One of the guards watching the prisoners let out a sigh of longing. He could barely contain himself while he saw the wild girl's sleeping face.

"Hey, don't get any ideas. I'm your senior so I'll go first." The other nudged him and they began arguing about who will be the first one to soil the pretty girl's innocence. People like them who turned against other hunters for monetary gain were unconcerned about morality and all they cared about was themselves.

It was that kind of selfishness what pushed them to become rogue hunters in the first place. Some did because they were stronger than their rank, others because their ranks were useless against cryptids, but particularly strong against human beings, but there were also those who were criminals even before acquiring their traits.

Rogue hunters were even more dangerous than cryptids since they were just as vicious, but telling them apart from honest hunters was impossible until too late. By the time they showed their fangs, it was already too late for their victims.

For that reason, the government usually executed any rogue hunters they caught within the city, since containing hunters or a long period of time was extremely difficult and costly.

Killing them was a far safer approach, but humanity was on a tight spot against the cryptids that inhabited the wilderness and they couldn't afford to kill innocent hunters which is why rangers caught the hunters to make sure whether or not they were criminals.

That was precisely Uriel's dilemma, at least when he first entered the outpost. He would have been able to summon the jaguar cryptid which would have probably resulted in a massacre, but he didn't know if some of them were innocent. Now, as he listened to them speak about the wild girl like she was an object, Uriel wished he didn'thesitate at that time.

It wasn't that he couldn't break free of the restraints or that the venom they administered him had any effect on him since the doze they gave him was far smaller than the one supposed for heavenly rank hunters thanks to him concealing his flux energy.

The problem was that, should he succeed in retaking the outpost, he would have no means to explain it without sharing too much information about himself.

'If I was still affected by Water warlock's emotions, I would have just killed everyone and if the rangers saw too much, I would have probably killed them too. But what will that make me if I do it now?

I'd be just like them, if not worse.' Uriel inwardly pondered about his situation for a while, but he was completely aware that even without Water warlock's influence his sense of morality was always crooked.

Time passed, but Uriel couldn't arrive at any conclusion. He knew that killing other people was wrong, even if they were criminals he still thought they deserved a chance to redeem themselves. If he didn't think that, he wouldn't even attempt to rescue Sam and would simply forget about him.

"This is weird, no one's coming..." One of the guards muttered.

"I bet they're just drunk or something." The other one shrugged.

"Yeah, but I can't wait to get a piece of that." The first guard pointed his chin at the wild girl, who continued sleeping without a care.

"Shut up, we already decided that I'll go first. Why don't you take the other one in the meantime? She's the least attractive heavenly rank hunter I've ever seen, but she's still a woman."

"You know the boss would kill me if I mess them up before he questioned them."

Mustering the courage to fight them wasn't difficult for Uriel, he knew that he would be able to defeat them easily and that the only one who might give him some trouble would be the rogue boss, but he knew that facing them would only be possible if he didn't hesitate to kill them and after what happened in Easter island, it wasn't so easy for him anymore even if it was for survival.

However, the more he heard them speak, the more resolute he became until he finally made a decision.

'Murder is fine if it's for the right reasons.' A short mental statement like that was enough to completely change someone's personality. Telling those words to himself knowing he wasn't under anyone's influence was an eye opening experience.

Uriel scanned his surroundings and confirmed that everybody else was asleep, safe for the two guards that continued bickering without noticing he was stll conscious. The first thing Uriel did was to check if he was able to enter his museum.

From what Sharp said, the venom they injected them with was supposed to keep them from channeling any flux at all, but it was also pretty risky to simply activate Dash since the boss hinted that he would notice if someone channeled flux and he needed to be stealthy to avoid fighting all the rogue hunters at the same time.

Uriel entered his museum in what was supposed to be a short visit, but as usual he lingered on the many artifacts he had stored inside. Looking at them was more of an obession than an habit, similar to a dragon bathing in his treasure Uriel would bask in the sight of his artifacts.

This also allowed him to make a plan, he knew that using the jaguar would draw too much attention and the same applied to his revolver. But there was a seemingly harmless artifact that had proved it's worth in more than one life or death situation, one he always carried with him.

He grabbed the pocked knife from his trait and slowly cut off the alloy wire wrapped around his wrists and then proceeded to try and pick the cell door lock. It was a pretty difficult task, but if picking its lock was easy the cell door would be completely worthless.

Uriel, though, didn't relent on his attempt and leaned close to the mechanism using his enhanced hearing sense to guide himself until the door opened with a soft click.

Both guards were still too busy fighting in between themselves when Uriel approached them from behind, still holding the pocked knife on his hand. One swift and precise movement and the first guard would die a painless death before he could even realize what was going on, which would mean Uriel would only need to fight one of them.

The problem was which one to kill and which one to fight. They both looked the same in terms of rank and power, but the differece the nature of a trait could make was the same as night and day. Some traits were easy to deal with while others were pretty troublesome to say the least.

Without anything to go by, Uriel simply picked one of them at random and slit his throat from behind just like he pictured it.

All the other guard saw was a hand appearing from behind his companion and the blood spurt that followed, but he didn't even get enough time to react because before the lifeless body of his companion hit the ground the lights went out.

Against his instinct, the guard dindn't scream or sound the alarm. He didn't so much as gasp in surprise and instead used the cover of the dark to scurry away from Uriel who quickly took position in front of the exit door to prevent the guard from leaving unnoticed.

Of all the possible outcomes Uriel thought of, it wasn't the worst but it was certainly the most annoying. All he was able to do now was to wait until the guard made some noise to locate him in the darkness, while the guard was unable to sound the alarm because that would mean giving away his position.

The guard crouched in a corner, sweating buckets while he tried to make sense of things. He couldn't understand how an evolved would be able to resist the same poison that was able to contain even his boss, but what worried him the most was the fact that lights went out which meant a cryptid had broke inside the outpost.

Just when the guard had abandoned all hope, the basement door opened all the way from the outside and ther tall figure of the rogue boss rushed in pushing past Uriel to check on the prisoners, without even suspecting that he wasn't one of his guards and Uriel wasn't going to miss on that opportunity.

"Hey!" Uriel called for his attention as he tapped the rogue boss shoulder making him turn around with an annoyed growl, only to be greeted with a bullet to the eye, the weakest spot in most living creatures.
