Dual Cultivation God Returns

Chapter 880: You guys are useless

Chapter 880: You guys are useless

“What the-…?”, the assassin Wu Long aimed at quickly tried to retreat as a chained shortsword appeared in his hands, one hand holding the hilt of the shortsword and the other holding the chain attached to its end in a few loops, ending with a small but heavy metal weight.

Wu Long’s Shadow Crescent made a beautiful diagonal arch cutting down a circular path in the tall grass, narrowly evaded by the assassin who used the chain to shield himself from the strike.

Four weight ends of chains flew to catch it from the sides, accurately predicting its path, but the Guandao Spear shifted trajectory upward, striking two of the chains while the back of its handle almost struck another two coming from behind.

Wu Long’s hand with arches of lightning covering it caught another chain in the air, and the lightning instantly traveled up the chain, lighting up the field they were in as the assassin froze in place, unable to let go of the chain or really move, which caused his demise as he was pulled by his own chain into the path of attack of two shortswords of his comrades.

‘One, nine to go’

The assassins couldn’t understand how his speed matched theirs, but had no time to contemplate or converse about it, as three of them launched their chains forward with weights, three followed with blades, and the three others slightly closed in to interfere if there was an opening.

However, two of those who attacked with weights suddenly felt their backs heating up, trying to evade in the last moment, but not managing to as talismans exploded behind them.

Wu Long was still holding the chain of the first-to-die assassin, stashing the Guandao Spear into his Spatial Ring, and made a move with his hand that caused the chain seemingly to come alive, snaking around him to counter all three of the blade attacks and the remaining metal weight attack.

“What the fu-…”, one of the three who got closer to Wu Long widened his eyes in disbelief as he instantly recognized Wu Long’s mastery over their weapon which far exceeded theirs. And they were now within his striking zone.

But it was too late for him to realize that, as the blade slashed his throat open, causing him to cover it with both hands and fall gurgling to the ground.

‘Two, eight to go’

The weeds around them were cut in circular arcs, as now Wu Long pressed the remaining eight assassins, the two who received blasts of talismans because of their negligence barely managing to regroup only because Wu Long was killing the second assassin at the time.

Their combat ability, however, was now lower, and thus as Wu Long’s chain entangled five other chains into a knot, including both of theirs, they did not manage to escape as Wu Long let go of the chain and appearing in between them completely crushed their throats with bare hands.

‘Three and four, six to go’

His cold eyes turned to the six others as he stood, slowly lowering his bloodied hands, strips of crushed flesh and blood dripping to the ground as he unclenched them.

All six of them, three of whom had their weapons sealed by being entangled, now looked at him with abject horror, as none of them ever imagined they would be meeting someone like this.

“W-Wandering Calamity”, one of them spoke with reverent fear.

“S-slaughter God…”, another one had an almost tearful voice.

“Tsk, don’t speak nonsense, he’s long dead! And even if he wasn’t he’d be nowhere near here~!”, another one shouted in a voice which slightly broke in the middle of the sentence, sounding more like he wanted to persuade himself.

His presence was simply too overwhelming, as they were completely frozen to their spots. He did not have to exude his actual presence, or rather, he did everything he could to not let it out. But the way he methodically hunted them down, seemingly knowing all of their moves, knowing what they thought to do next, and seeing through any tricks, the way he used their weapons against them, struck intense fear that made Wu Long seem like the incarnation of death in their eyes.

“Tsk, I wanted to show them more… you guys are useless…”, Wu Long clicked his tongue in light frustration as he thought he held back very much already, and it still wasn’t enough. He was even moving at a slower speed than theirs, which only looked to them as if he was matching their speed. After all, he was showing the twins the moves and tactics of Yingmu Assassins.

Now, however, they lost that value.

‘Oh well, at least they’ll all serve as a catalyst… if everything goes that way…’, he then thought while trying to find a silver lining, as he thought up of another use they could serve being dead.

Thick arcs of lightning covered both of his hands and arms, moving a bit slow, as if suspended in time as he created a stronger charge which sustained its arc as the residual blood of the last two dead assassins was quickly burnt off.

This brightly illuminated the field, and as six shadows tried to escape, six slightly brighter flashes signified their demises, not that far apart form one another in time.

“Hmm, still, to think the Yingmu Assassins League was still operational… what is up with all these cockroaches? First Lust Cultivators now these…”, he spoke in light annoyance as he walked toward the twins, as it seemed that part of what he thought he finished in his past life was now resurfacing, quite well and alive.

‘Though to be fair, I never opposed them much in the lower Boundless Words, I just assumed the Bahshi Assassins finished them off…’, he then found a slightly comforting thought that didn’t really comfort him at all.

“I really wanted to show you more, but they were a bit lacking for that”, Wu Long then made a wry smile toward the two.

“Hehe, thank you Darling”, Hong Ye chuckled, coming closer to hug him, “We’ve see a lot as it is”

“Mm, their way certainly differs from ours”, Hong Yue nodded with an introspective tone and expression, as she compared Bahshi Assassination Group’s techniques and methods with theirs.

“Their philosophy is a bit different from Bahshi who try to train only the elite of the elite into a perfect weapon of assassination. They rely on numbers, and cooperation of lesser assassins, thus they have the League in their name. As you can see, their weapon maximizes their ability to jointly attack one enemy”, Wu Long explained, “Although these idiots expired before showing any of their techniques… I guess they were a bit too low-level to learn the techniques”

“I assume that just like in our case, they don’t know who hired them?”, Hong Ye spoke, seeing that Wu Long didn’t try to extract any information even if they were completely mentally broken.

“Mm, most of their assassins don’t even really know where their headquarters are, they receive missions with special communication jades that are embedded into their bodies, breaking as soon as they die”, Wu Long nodded, “But I can make a guess. It isn’t exactly cheap to order this class of assassins, as they are at least generally are comparable to the Bahshi Assassination Group. And of the Sects that were there, there was one which was mentioned to have quite deep pockets. I can’t be certain of course, so I guess I’ll have to confirm later”

This was just a guess, since another Sect might have found it appropriate to spend the sum as long as they could get their hands on the Yang-attribute treasure.

The point was, they hired such high-class professionals because they wanted everything to go quietly without disturbing Wei Yuanjie and his guards.

Wu Long returned to the mansion with the twins, and resumed his work with Fen Baihu, Xue Bing, Nie Xiwang, and Shen Min.

And it was only in the morning that an uproar came about as the small damaged patch of the fields led the farmers to discover the bodies of the assassins, raising a chaos in the Helian Family.
