Dual Cultivation God Returns

Chapter 861: The short version

Chapter 861: The short version

Wu Long arrived at the arena within the Headquarters of the Wei Dynasty’s Martial Alliance just in time for the first match.

“Hah, we already thought you were not going to show up!”, the Grand Elder of the Flowing Petal Hall spoke, while Wu Long nonchalantly proceeded to float to the rectangular platform in the center without acknowledging that remark.

However, something within the stands around caught his attention, or rather, someone.

The contestant he would have to face after the first one, the Disciple of the Profound Unity Pavilion, stood among her Sect’s members, also looking at Wu Long.

Her light green eyes and long wavy bright blue hair, coupled with a well-developed body accentuated by the tight-fitting clothes for better movements, made for a very striking look.

‘An Extreme Yin Physique…?’, Wu Long raised his eyebrow, but as his eyes flashed with profound patterns, a slightly confused look appeared in them, ‘No… it’s something else…’

Normally, Wu Long wasn’t someone who would be wrong about something like this, much less stuck guessing, but he had to admit that even he was baffled.

His first impression was that she possessed an Extreme Yin Physique, but she did not actually have Extreme Yin Qi, which ruled out that option.

And yet, she gave off the unique natural charm and presence that a possessor of an Extreme Yin Physique had.

In fact, upon closer inspection, that was basically the only thing she shared with someone who had an Extreme Yin Physique.

There were, Variation Physiques like Sui Luxiao and Hua Ziyan had, as well as Deviation Physiques like Nie Xiwang and Liang Yuhan possessed, that gave owners of a physique a natural charm or feminine allure, but she did not seem to possess one of those, and the feeling they gave off was still different.

The feeling he got from her was exactly that of an Extreme Yin Physique holder, not something similar or just close, exactly the one.

And it wasn’t a physique which could naturally hide its presence, and was hard to notice unless one was explicitly searching for it like Shen Min’s Dual Polarities Extreme Yin Physique, not to mention that his cultivation level rose much higher than when he met Shen Min, and thus his Chaos Origin Eyes would see through it now as clear as day.

Wu Long’s curiosity was definitely piqued at what could it be that eluded even him, but to know the answer to that he would have to do more than a cursory outward look, and pry into her secrets.

Not that she would know, but Wu Long preferred not to violate a maiden’s most intimate privacy unless he had explicit permission or there really was a heavy reason for it. And curiosity wasn’t among the list of heavy reasons in this instance.

She looked back at Wu Long with a gaze that was estimating an opponent, a clear preparation to challenge him in her eyes.

He knew that gaze well, it was a gaze of someone who was long held down despite their talents, and only recently gained recognition, eager to test their limits, to see how far they could go.

It was also, a gaze of a rogue cultivator who attained a position within a big Sect. Someone who rose into a position of privilege from the bottom.

‘Heh, she’s all ready to go’, he inwardly chuckled seeing that look which didn’t lack either confidence or enthusiasm. A light expectant smile on her lips.

He then noted, ‘Though it seems they either lied about her rapid progress, or she managed to somehow dupe them, though the former is more likely’

He could see from her aura that she has been in Revolving Qi Realm for about three to five years, and in lower cultivation realms for at least ten before that. Although it was true that she made rapid progress to Mortal Transcendence Realm in the recent year, likely after joining the Sect.

‘Heh, did they want to have their Heaven’s Chosen to be even more amazing than she is, so they had to exaggerate? From Revolving Qi to Mortal Transcendence in a year is remarkable enough’, he almost made a chuckle out loud at the vain attempt of the Sect to have their prized Disciple be flawless in the eyes of their peer Sects.

“Hah! Quite arrogant of you, to already be looking at your next opponent before even facing your first”, and then a voice came from a young man who stepped onto the arena from the opposite side from him, “… but then again only an arrogant man would so brazenly challenge the five biggest Dual Cultivation Sects around… or an extremely stupid one”

‘And this here is… a Yang-type Variant Physique huh…’, Wu Long turned a cursory look to the newcomer, and then losing any interest turned back to the beauty he would have to face after.

Seeing Wu Long’s attitude, the prized Disciple of the Flowing Petal Hall clicked his tongue, “Tsk, it seems you are the latter… Don’t worry, you won’t have to face her. It is I, Yun Ping of the Flowing Petal Hall, who would have to defend the treasure won in this match from her…”

He then continued speaking, which to Wu Long sounded akin to the buzzing of a persistent fly.

“…”, Yun Ping seemingly understood he wasn’t receiving any attention from Wu Long, turning his gaze to the same direction he was facing, a smirk appearing on his lips, “Heh! Ah… I understand now, with a hottie like her, of course you would be ogling. Haven’t seen one like that, huh? But damn, she really is fine. Don’t worry, I will let her know you found her attractive as well when she’s mine, doubt she’ll care though”

“You remind me of a story”, Wu Long chuckled.

“A story?”, Yun Ping raised his eyebrow, “Wha-…”

“A story about an immortal sage who practiced patience as his Dao, and a house fly which achieved immortality”, Wu Long nodded, talking over Yun Ping.

Yun Ping’s eyebrow twitched, as he sensed the implicit meaning of Wu Long remembering this story, “You-…”

“We don’t have much time, neither am I particularly interested in this conversation being long, so I will tell you the short version”, Wu Long continued over Yun Ping’s attempts to insert a word.

And at this time, the Martial Alliance representative who arrived a bit earlier finished greeting all the Grand Elders and the Sect Master of the Southern Sea Island Sect, and proceeded to stand on a platform to the side of Wu Long and Yun Ping.

“I trust none of have any taste for a long preamble, so I will be short. This is a martial spar, and not a duel to death. Thus both opponents are to behave in the spirit of Martial Arts, and not hold the intent to kill. Any deliberate attempts to take the life or give permanent damage to the opponent after they are incapacitated or unable to continue fighting is strictly forbidden, and the offender would bear full retribution from the Martial Alliance. But sword is blind, and danger is always present in a contest of strength. You must accept the risks of meeting an accident. Do both sides agree?”

“Agreed”, Wu Long nonchalantly said in a neutral tone, standing in his usual relaxed pose with both hands behind his back as if he was taking a stroll.

“Agreed”, Yun Ping spoke through gritted teeth, looking at Wu Long with an incinerating gaze.

“Then… greet your opponent”

Both Wu Long and Yun Ping put their hands into a hand and fist salute. Many around noting that Wu Long’s greeting was polite and respectful, while Yun Ping’s showed hostility, slamming the fist into his open palm with force while staring Wu Long down.

“And so where was I with the story…”, Wu Long spoke calmly as they lowered their hands, while the Martial Alliance representative from the side was raising his hand, saying in a grandiose way to prepare.

“Keep speaking your nonsense! We’ll see how far you-…”, Yun Ping spat out, as the Martial Alliance representative’s hand started going down.

“Ah yes! The shortened version is…”, Wu Long seemed to remember where his story was, and with a loud ‘Start!’ coming from the side along with the Martial Alliance representative’s hand going down, Wu Long appeared in front of Yun Ping, “… the fly got swatted”

A loud explosion struck the arena as a huge dust cloud went into the air from the stands around the platform.

Those who just took their seats near that area of the stands scurried away in all directions, their eyes wide from shock, and a constant ringing in their ears as the reinforced rocks making up the seats exploded into fine dust, producing a thunderous noise.

Those in higher Cultivation Realms in the stands around the platform widened their eyes looking at the arena, where Wu Long stood, dusting his hand on his robe.

Hehe ^^

The shortest version lol ^^

To be honest, when I already finished writing the chapter, I had a weird feeling while re-reading it. I am a bit afraid that I actually unconcsiously copied the Immortal fly story from something I saw or read somewhere long ago. But then again I don’t really remember. I sometimes get this feeling when rereading the chapter before posting, and in many cases it seems it’s just because I am reading something I just wrote. Anyway, if anyone recognizes it, please let me know, perhaps I would need to edit the chap a bit ^^”
