Domination in America, Starting from being a Boxing Champion

Chapter 808 - 586: The Movie and Boxing Match

In mid-May, "Captain America 3" finished filming, and Link took a flight back to the United States.

Meanwhile, the North American film market also entered the summer blockbuster season.

Before the summer season, the box office results of several films released by Lionsgate Films were successively unveiled.

The earliest release, "Two Days One Night," settled with a North American box office of 3.16 million US dollars and a global take of 11.08 million US dollars, breaking even.

The second film, "The Fox Hunter," earned 11.35 million US dollars in North America and 23.55 million globally, with a loss of about 18 million US dollars, with the main producer Annapurna Pictures bearing the majority of the loss.

The third film, "Creed," earned 109 million US dollars in North America and 184 million globally, with a production budget of 35 million, qualifying as a blockbuster and the first film from Lionsgate Films this year to break 100 million in the North American box office.

The fourth, "Insidious 3," released in mid-March, has a current North American box office of 52.21 million US dollars and a global take of 114 million US dollars.

The film had a production budget of 10 million and an 11 to 1 revenue ratio, making it a major hit as well.

The fifth film is "Remnants of Life," a rated-R comedy similar to "Bridesmaids," about a girl named Emma who, influenced by her father, loves to bar-hop and date various men without ever falling in love, until she meets Aaron, a sports injury doctor.

The script was written by famous American stand-up comedian Amy Schumer, who's been called "the American Jia Ling," and the film is adapted from her personal experiences.

Amy Schumer also stars as the lead actress, with LeBron James playing the secondary male role.

The film was released at the end of March and earned 44.24 million US dollars at the North American box office from 3,158 theaters in its first week; after over a month, the current North American box office is 113 million US dollars and the global box office is 142 million US dollars, marking Lionsgate Films' second film to break 100 million at the North American box office this year.

The production budget for the film was 35 million US dollars, making it another hit film.

Previously, the two films released by Lionsgate Films at the beginning of the year performed poorly, with only one of the first four films breaking 100 million in the North American box office, which was somewhat worse than the same period last year when "Escape From Planet Earth" and "The Millers" had already broken the 100 million mark before April. This year, Lionsgate Films' performances have been notably weaker.

Industry peers breathed a sigh of relief and hoped that Lionsgate Films' movies would continue to suffer losses.

However, with "Remnants of Life" breaking 100 million in the North American box office, Lionsgate Films had two pre-summer-release movies break the 100 million mark, putting pressure on the Big Six Studios once again.

In mid-April, Lionsgate Films' sixth movie "Now You See Me 2" was released.

Directed by Chu Hsien-che, the film stars Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, amongst others, with Huaxia singer Jay Chou and actress Ni Ni playing important supporting roles.

The movie tells the story of a group of magicians using magic to steal from the rich and give to the poor.

With a production budget of 75 million US dollars, the film earned 35.25 million US dollars in its opening week at the North American box office, which was a mediocre result.

After more than four weeks, the current North American box office is 72.20 million US dollars.

But in the Huaxia region, the box office results were beyond expectations. "Now You See Me 2," with an early release in Huaxia, took in 280 million in its first week, remaining at the top for two consecutive weeks and collecting a total of 98 million US dollars in Huaxia region over four weeks, far exceeding the North American box office, and standing as the highest-grossing imported film in the Huaxia region this year.

Additionally, the film performed well in other overseas markets.

After 37 days, the global box office totaled 334 million US dollars. While it didn't break 100 million in North America, its global box office performance has been stellar, becoming the first film from Lionsgate Films this year to exceed 300 million US dollars globally.

During the summer season, Lionsgate Films has five films set for release: "Apocalypse," "Sleeping Spell," "Lucy," "Terminator: Genesis," "The Expendables 3."

Among them, "Sleeping Spell," "Apocalypse," and "Terminator: Genesis" are jointly marketed by Lionsgate Films with Disney Pictures and Paramount Pictures, with Lionsgate handling the North American region and Disney and Paramount covering overseas markets.

"Apocalypse" was released on May 1st.

The film depicts a once-in-a-century earthquake in southern Nevada that completely destroys the Hoover Dam, with Raymond, a rescue helicopter pilot from the Los Angeles Fire Department, witnessing the horrifying moment when the bustling city is reduced to ruins, and he sets out to find and rescue his daughter Blake.

An action-adventure movie.

Starring Dwayne Johnson, Emma Watson, Cara Delevingne, and others, it was simultaneously released in 63 countries and regions around the world at the beginning of May.

Over the weekend, it made 67.12 million US dollars at the box office from 3,777 North American theaters; breaking 100 million in North America in 8 days and exceeding 200 million after 24 days, becoming Lionsgate Films' third North American film to break the 100 million mark this year.

The overseas box office performance was also strong, passing the 200 million mark in just 15 days.

The current global box office total for the film is 448 million US dollars.

It is expected to reach over 500 million US dollars globally.

The production budget for the film was 120 million US dollars, jointly produced by Lionsgate, Paramount, and Sky Dance Pictures, with Lionsgate owning a 50% investment share and half of the box office revenue.

If "Apocalypse" reaches a global box office of 500 million, Lionsgate Films' net revenue from the project will exceed 100 million US dollars.

However, this year's summer box office is crowded with more blockbusters than last year, making the 500 million goal challenging to achieve.

This summer's big-budget productions include several from Lionsgate Films, as well as Disney Pictures' "Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Inside Out," "Ant-Man," Universal Pictures' "Jurassic World," "Minions," "Ted 2," Paramount Pictures' "Mission: Impossible 5," Warner Bros. Pictures' "Mad Max: Fury Road," and more, all of them high-cost productions.
