Chapter 801 - 580: Awards Season and Chris Liu
"Margarita, get up, no rolling on the ground."
Ivanka shouted.
"Ow!"
The little one rolled around a few times, and seeing that Selena and the other two had already gotten up, she slowly got to her feet, butt in the air.
After playing in a private skating rink for over an hour, the group then drove to the next children's amusement park. Before they had children, Link and Ivanka, and Taylor, would go to cinemas, concert halls, shopping malls, bars, and would talk about love and romance. Now with the three little ones, the conversation was mostly about the kids.
After a tour around several bustling Manhattan neighborhoods, not until the little ones were tired and dozing off in his arms did the group return to their Yorkville apartment to rest.
After Christmas, Taylor stayed in New York for a week, continuing to promote her album. Now her album "1989" had reached a sales volume of 3.52 million copies in the United States, becoming last year's highest-selling album in the country and the only one apart from the "Frozen" soundtrack to exceed 3 million copies.
Overseas, after over two months of promotion, "1989" had already broken through to sales of over 10 million copies, a respectable achievement.
After the holiday, neither Link nor Ivanka rushed back to Los Angeles, continuing to stay in New York to handle various work tasks.
At the end of December, the nominations for the 72nd Golden Globes were announced. This year, Lionsgate Films had six films nominated, totalling 21 nominations.
Among them, "Birdman" and "American Hustle" each received 7 nominations at the Golden Globes, making them the two films with the most nominations, including Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Original Score, and so on.
"Gone Girl" earned four nominations: Best Director, Best Actress in a Drama, Best Screenplay, and Best Original Score.
"Whiplash" with one nomination, Best Supporting Actor.
"The Grand Budapest Hotel" with one, Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy.
"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1" with one, Best Original Song.
Accounting for 3/10 of all nominations.
Since Lionsgate Films annually received dozens of nominations over the past few years, their receiving 21 nominations this time didn't cause much of a stir in the media; it seemed everyone was already accustomed to it.
If Lionsgate Films hadn't received more than ten nominations, that would have been big news to the media.
This year, the Golden Globes did not nominate Link, but invited him to be a presenter. Link declined—he didn't lack exposure, didn't need to find presence in front of the ceremony's cameras, nor did he want to be used by the Golden Globes to increase their viewership ratings.
Also, during a chat on Christmas Eve, Taylor said that he was now a big shot and should be low-key, appearing less in public and keeping his personal life private to increase his mystique, like Bill Gates, the Rockefellers, and members of the Rothschild family.
Despite Taylor's motive being more about hoping he'd stay home and be a good stay-at-home dad, there was some truth to her words.
Deciding not to attend the Golden Globes, Link stayed home to look after the kids and train, and participated in the New York Philharmonic Orchestra's performance at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts on New Year's Day. As a pianist, he accompanied the performance of the piece "Victory".
After the new year, the Philharmonic Orchestra played 12 sold-out performances in four cities.
Link had transformed from a mere singer to a musician, a renowned pianist.
And every time he performed, Ivanka would be there in the audience, offering him flowers and applause, as if his pure music performances were more praiseworthy than being a singer.
Taylor, on the other hand, seemed envious of his performances with the Philharmonic Orchestra, reminding him over the phone not to forget who taught him his piano playing skills.
Link's response was rather blunt, telling her to come back soon, wanting to ML (make love) with her, even on the piano if necessary.
Then he got soundly cursed out by Taylor.
During his time in New York, Link also took care of some academic matters. Last year, he graduated smoothly from NYU with a Bachelor's degree in Sports Management.
Because he had good marks in his major during his time at school, and did well in scientific research and paper writing, focusing on the boxing industry, he published several articles in top economics journals like "Econometrica" and "RES". The school suggested that he continue his studies to pursue a master's or doctoral degree.
After some thought, Link declined. The reason he initially took the SATs and went to NYU was partly to get a degree so he wouldn't be viewed as a high school dropout or illiterate, and partly to experience college life.
However, with work keeping him busy over the past few years, apart from exams and athletic meetings, he rarely visited the campus, and thus didn't get much of a chance to experience campus life.
There was no need to pursue further studies.
At the beginning of January, his negotiating team successfully acquired 100% ownership of the real estate at 222 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan for a total cost of 1.85 billion US Dollars, which was over 300 million more than when the Kunis family acquired it in 2006.
After acquiring the 222 building, Link didn't move in immediately. The building was constructed in the mid-1980s, now over thirty years old, and the annual maintenance costs alone were over 5 million US Dollars. Therefore, he spent an additional 200 million US Dollars for renovation and named it LINK Tower.
LINK Tower has 41 floors, standing 145 meters tall with a total floor area of 696,000 square feet. After the renovation, the main part continued as office space, with hotels and restaurants on the lower floors and high-end apartments above. If managed well, it could bring in tens of millions annually in rental income.
What do you think?
