Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Afraid I’ll become a burden due to my disability?
To get a check-up, we didn’t dare eat breakfast and went straight to the hospital. When we arrived, people were already registered and waiting in line.
The two of them sat on chairs in the hall. Gu Qimiao, looking triumphant, said, "See, it’s good that I told you to come early; otherwise, we wouldn’t even make it to lunch."
Gu Moming was about to tease her when his phone rang in his pocket.
He answered with just two "mm-hmms," said "got it," and then hung up.
"Who was that?"
He replied mischievously, "A little beauty from Italy. It’s been too long since she last saw me and she misses me."
Gu Qimiao saw right through him, "Is there a race?"
He raised his eyebrow and nodded, "Yeah, so? Want to come with me?"
She immediately put on a stern face, "No way! Your foot hasn’t healed yet!"
"Just because I drove slowly earlier, now you doubt my skills?"
Gu Qimiao seriously scolded him, "You drive so recklessly during races. If you injure your foot again, you might end up disabled!"
He chuckled self-deprecatingly, "Afraid I’ll become a burden to you?"
"You already are! Every time you get hurt, I have to go to the hospital to take care of you. Do you think it’s not a hassle?!"
He patted her head, as if soothing an angry kitten, "My dear Miaomiao, your brother Mo Ming is a professional race car driver."
She swatted his hand away, "Even so, don’t go... Let’s wait for the test results first."
"Other people’s sisters listen to their brothers."
Gu Qimiao retorted with his words from the previous night, "You said it yourself, that’s other people’s sisters."
He chuckled lightly at her response and didn’t say anything more, understanding her stubbornness.
Men and women were separated during the check-up. By the time all the tests were done, it was already nearly eleven.
Having skipped breakfast, both of them were starving, and since the results wouldn’t be out anytime soon, they decided to grab a meal first.
During lunch, his phone kept ringing, all seemingly related to the race.
Despite his usual cavalier attitude, he’s very dedicated to racing and extremely competitive, known for his daredevil driving style.
Every time he raced, Gu Qimiao would sit in the audience, her heart in her throat. When he won first place, she was elated for him.
She’d tried to persuade him to quit this dangerous career and find a more stable job. He was smart enough that he could easily land a good position at a company, or he could return to inherit the family business, which was a promising path.
But he was obsessed with racing, to a crazy extent. Gu Qimiao could only silently support him, just as he had supported and encouraged her when she took up painting.
After another call, he said, "I have to leave tonight. Take a few days off and come with me."
"The results aren’t out yet! What if the doctor says your leg..."
He interrupted her, "A younger sister should obediently follow her brother’s arrangements."
Knowing he was determined to go, she didn’t argue further, only said, "I can’t take time off because the gallery is holding an exhibition, but I’ll definitely watch the live stream!"
...
In the afternoon, the results came out. The doctor said there was no major issue with his health, and his leg was recovering well, though not completely healed. He could do light exercises, but he was resolute, and no amount of persuasion from Gu Qimiao could change his mind.
That night, she helped him pack and saw him off at the airport. By the time she took the bus to Yujing International, it was already eight o’clock.
All day, she hadn’t contacted Shen Yanchen. Was he at home or at the office now?
From observing him recently, she noticed he usually came home on time and rarely went out at night. At this hour, he was probably home...
She entered the door code cautiously, pushed the door open slightly, peeked inside, and immediately saw the pair of men’s leather shoes he often wore next to the shoe cabinet...
What do you think?
