Chapter 122: Chapter 122: It Seems, Not Bad (Seeking Collection, Seeking Votes) Chapter 122: Chapter 122: It Seems, Not Bad (Seeking Collection, Seeking Votes) Seeing him speak with such assuredness, Zhu Qianying no longer bothered to argue with him.

After all, if he thought it was normal, then it was, and she needed to respect that, didn’t she?

Besides, it was his prerogative to do as he pleased, now and in the future. She had no say in it.

Of course, it was not her place to interfere anyway.

Moreover, she was quite hungry at the moment and didn’t have time to bicker with him.

“Fine, if you think it’s normal then it is.”, Zhu Qianying concluded with a huff, ignoring him and continuing her meal.

Mr. Yan seldom spoke during meals. Apart from Zhu Qianying eating in silence, he also carried on with his meal as usual.

Chen Jing had been quite alert but suddenly when the two became quiet, she felt an inexplicable sense of unease.

She glanced around and after confirming that both her daughter and Mr. Yan were enjoying their meals without any trace of unhappiness, then she relaxed and started to eat her meal.

After finishing their meal, Zhu Qianying helped her mother clear up the dishes washing and looked at elder gentleman sitting on the sofa, who suddenly spoke, looking at Zhu Qianying’s back.

“My parents are coming back tomorrow!”

Zhu Qianying paused for a moment, turned her head towards him and asked, “Should I come over tomorrow evening?”

But Mr. Yan responded, “The day after tomorrow.”

“Oh…”, Zhu Qianying uttered, holding the dishes and entered the kitchen.

“Mom, I will have to go to Mr. Yan’s place the day after tomorrow.”

Chen Jing looked at her daughter worriedly, “Mr. Yan…he didn’t… hasn’t mistreated you, has he?”

Zhu Qianying looked at her mother puzzled, “Mom, where did your thoughts wander to? His parents are coming back tomorrow. I should at least pay them a visit. They have always been nice to me. Don’t overthink things.”

Even though Zhu Qianying comforted her this way, Chen Jing could not help but worry.

After seeing the warm hospitality Ji Family have shown to them, Chen Jing began to find the casual attitude of Mr. Yan towards her elder daughter rather concerning. It appeared to Chen Jing as if Mr. Yan treated her daughter like a servant – calling her and dismissing her at his whim.

Their dynamics bore absolutely no resemblance to the affection Ji Huan showed Xiao Yu. They hardly exchanged a loving gaze, their relationship seemed completely devoid of love.

The more Chen Jing compared the two relationships, the more her heart ached, and the more she blamed herself, making her sigh.

Zhu Qianying, who was wiping the dishes with a clean towel, seemed to see through her mother’s troubles at her sigh.

“Mom, you’re not worrying that Mr. Yan bullies me because of the way Ji Huan fawns over Xiao Yu, are you?”

Initially, Chen Jing was just sighing; but when her daughter asked her this question, her eyes suddenly welled up with tears. She raised her hand to wipe her eyes pretending not to hear her daughter’s words. She turned the faucet to make the water flow louder, the sound of running water covering up the sound of her heavy sniffles.

Zhu Qianying looked at her mother’s eyes, wrinkled with age. She was not even forty yet, but there were already strands of grey hair visible on her head.

“Mom, my relationship with Mr. Yan isn’t that bad. Don’t worry. We’re just used to bickering with each other!”

Zhu Qianying didn’t really think that her relationship with Mr. Yan was bad, just not exceptionally good either!

However, after spending some time together, Zhu Qianying was starting to get used to Mr. Yan’s peculiar and annoying quirks.

She rarely thought about her future with Mr. Yan but now, she did not repel him as much as she initially did.

She noticed this change of heart within her as well.

Of course, this was a good sign.

Even if there wasn’t love, they were slowly developing a resurgence of mutual solidarity, almost like they were comrades facing a common enemy.

It seemed that the way things are now was not too bad!

Chen Jing assumed that her daughter was only trying to comfort her because she could clearly see how indifferent Mr. Yan was to her daughter.

“Ying’er….”

A bizarre bold idea suddenly formed in Chen Jing’s mind.

Zhu Qianying played along and met her mother’s gaze but pretended not to notice her tear-streaked eyes, “Hmm?”

“You said… can you and Mr. Yan cancel the engagement now?”

Gathering all her courage, Chen Jing finally vocalized her terrifying thought to her daughter. She was now certain that a marriage without love or a marriage that is based solely on common interests was bound to end tragically!

Zhu Qianying was genuinely surprised. She did not expect her mother to entertain such a bold idea. For a moment, she just stared at her mother, shocked.

“Anyway… anyway, since you two have not registered yet, and we haven’t received a cent from the Yan Family, right?”

For the first time, Chen Jing decided to fight bravely for the happiness of her daughter!

A wave of warmth first surged in Zhu Qianying’s heart at her mother’s resolute stance for her happiness. This quickly gave way to waves of despair, though.

What moved her was that her mother had finally shown motherly instincts and took a stand for her and wanted to protect her.

The despair originated from the fact that the Yan Family had made public announcements and taken wedding photos, basically informing much of the populace about the marriage. If they were to call off the marriage now, Mr. Yan would surely be furious.

Moreover, if Mr. Yan was not there to protect them, would her father and her aunts, uncles and siblings let them off easily?

“Mom, my marriage to Mr. Yan is mutually agreed upon, and it’s not as complicated as you think!”

To comfort her mother, Zhu Qianying had to say something that went against her inner feelings.

“Of course, in the beginning, it was indeed out of necessity. He needed a wife and I needed money. But after spending some time together, we get along rather well!” Zhu Qianying continued to tell white lies.

“But…”

But, Chen Jing did not quite believe what her daughter was saying.

“But what? Mom, don’t underestimate your daughter’s charm! As long as I am interested, I just have to give a flirtatious glance at men, and traffic in L City will probably block up from the east to the west. While Mr. Yan is impressive, he is just a common man after all. It wouldn’t be surprising if he fell in love with a gorgeous and capable girl like me in no time at all!”

Chen Jing was only half-convinced, but Zhu Qianying was out of patience. She gathered her mother at the entrance of the kitchen and whispered in her ear.

“Mom, look closely!”

Chen Jing looked puzzled, but then she saw Zhu Qianying stride into the living room, lean forward, and quickly bring her face close to Mr. Yan’s.

Mr. Yan was sitting on the sofa, scrolling through his iPad. The mild fragrance that wafted his way along with the approaching footsteps, indicated to him that it was Zhu Qianying.

“Mr. Yan…”

A soft voice came and Mr. Yan raised his head instinctively, only to see Zhu Qianying’s beautiful eyes suddenly appear before him.

The two locked eyes and for a moment, nobody spoke.

The chandelier in the living room emitted a soft yellow light. During this mutual gaze, each person could see the glimmer in the other’s eyes, whether it was due to the light or was it reflection off the lamp bulb.

Then, Chen Jing, who had barely stopped breathing right outside the kitchen, saw Mr. Yan raise his hand to the back of her daughter’s head, lean in, and place a soft kiss on her lips.
