Chapter 55: There is a traitor, stop taking points!
The score has reached 10:8, with Steel Helm leading by two points.
However, what’s more important next is the battle in the Long Gun round.
In the last round, a sharp play earned them a point, and Jiang Yang’s bank was well-stocked, allowing him to buy an AWP (sniper rifle).
MO set up a 3B2A formation at the start.
But with the AWP in hand, Jiang Yang was ready to make his move.
He knew the attackers couldn’t afford an AWP, so even with a double-A setup, he wasn’t afraid to take the first shot with the sniper rifle.
At the beginning, he headed for the middle T-crossing and didn’t rush to take a shot but instead waited against the wall.
When he heard a “bang” as a flashbang exploded in the middle, he peeked out with his AWP.
He saw the positions of two enemies in the middle and the sewer.
Jiang Yang opted for a simple approach, quickly firing a shot at the enemy in the middle.“—Bang!”
【young used the AWP to kill refresh】
“Great shot! A smooth pre-aim, and he secures the first kill for the team. Even though my cousin is good with a pistol, he’s also quite stable with the AWP!”
Getting the first kill eased the pressure on the team.
Jiang Yang took two hits from the enemy in the sewer but didn’t peek again, knowing that stability was key.
The enemy didn’t give him another chance, as they used utilities to force him back to the site.
In the 3B formation, Xiao Sika asked, “Liu Ke, should I fall back?”
He felt that with the number advantage at the start, they had taken control of the banana path, and they should just fall back to a default A setup.
But MO shook his head. “No need to rush back, just stay in the 3B2A setup. We’ll hide two players at tree positions and play a one-on-one battle.”
As the in-game leader, MO was already in a mental game with the enemy’s captain.
After several rounds, the enemy’s captain knew that Jiang Yang was their core player. So when Jiang Yang fired a shot at A, the enemy captain would likely assume A would be heavily defended. He thought that Jiang Yang’s position might make B the more vulnerable target.
Although they could play it safe, sometimes you need to be bold and not worry too much.
“A switched up the positions, moving the AWP back to the bomb site, and the rifles focused on the link area. Banana was designed with three players in mind!”
“But wait, are two of them hiding in the tree positions on Banana? Will those spots be smoked out?” Ma Xixi asked, sounding worried. Thankfully, they saw that the enemy was attempting a silent advance, slowly moving forward.
“Here it comes, the pre-aim. The first player, Pointy, gets caught in a quick hook, Xiao Sika opens fire and takes out Pointy, but then he’s shot down by a trade!”
“Su Di didn’t rush to save him, but MO was immediately eliminated. He tried to return fire, but the bomb was lost, so he quickly smoked the Banana entrance to change his position.”
“But then Stavn sneaked in from the smoke and took out Su Di!”
“Damn, it’s the Danes!” Ma Xixi groaned.
In CSGO professional matches, Denmark has produced so many exceptional players, and their smoke tricks are top-tier. Over time, people started joking that the Danes were born with smoke tactics.
DD quickly rotated back to B, throwing a B tunnel smoke to delay time. Jiang Yang, however, didn’t rush to move from A.
“The enemy’s moving towards A, but there’s an AWP holding the bomb site. It’s a 1v2 now. Can Jiang Yang handle it?”
A flashbang came in, and Jiang Yang, hiding behind the bomb box, got flashed completely. However, Stavn didn’t check his position and instead cleared the larger and smaller pits first.
“Did you hear that? Did you hear that?”
Jiang Yang didn’t rush to fire, instead calling for DD to rotate over.
One enemy had already entered the big pit, and the other was at the bomb site.
He knew he had caught a crucial timing and, listening to the footsteps from A1, silently aimed and prepared for the shot.
Soon, an enemy appeared in his sight, jumping into view. Jiang Yang didn’t even need to adjust his aim, just firing.
“—Bang!”
【young used the AWP to kill TeSeS】
After getting the kill, Jiang Yang quickly moved away from his spot behind the bomb box, changing position to avoid being pre-aimed and eliminated.
DD’s rotation still needed some time, and Jiang Yang wasn’t just going to sit idle. He used his quick reflexes to peek at the larger pit and the smaller pit.
The last enemy happened to be positioned between the two pits. For Jiang Yang, landing the shot was easy.
“—Bang!”
【young used the AWP to headshot Stavn】
With this kill, Jiang Yang raised his right arm in a fist pump, securing the next round for his team.
11:8
Only five more rounds, and Jiang Yang could win his first Major match.
“Great shot, great shot!” His teammates praised in the voice chat.
Su Di, however, was confused. “That Stavn was ridiculous. I was walking quietly, and he still managed to kill me through the wall.”
Jiang Yang gave fist bumps to his two teammates beside him. “It’s alright, let’s keep going, keep getting rounds.”
He could clearly feel that today, Heroic was only showing good form with Stavn—everyone else seemed off. Plus, since this was a BO1 match, Steel Helm had a real chance.
But in the next round, Heroic made a strong comeback on the Banana path.
Though DD and Jiang Yang quickly regained a 3v1 advantage, Pointy won a 1v3 clutch, helping Heroic start picking up rounds again.
From that point, Heroic quickly turned the tide, scoring relentlessly.
The score soon reached 14:12.
The match had entered its most intense phase. Steel Helm was just two rounds away from finishing the game, but Heroic’s offense was fierce. Steel Helm’s economy wasn’t great either, and if they lost this round, the score would be tied.
Jiang Yang got his beloved AWP again. This round, he moved to Banana and immediately took a shot, eliminating TeSeS.
After getting the kill, he switched to A.
However, Banana had a big skirmish again. Su Di, hiding behind the sandbags, was cleared out by the enemy’s utility, and before MO could counter with a flashbang, he was eliminated.
With MO's flashbang, their position was exposed, and the enemy launched a full attack.
At this point, Pointy’s top-notch command came into play. He sent sjuush to fake an attack on B while everyone else rotated to A.
sjuush made an impressive move by catching MO as he tried to move out of smoke, and then eliminated DD, leaving Xiao Sika badly wounded.
At this point, Jiang Yang and Xiao Sika could only try to save their weapons.
In the CSBOY live stream, Ma Xixi’s expression went from despair to hope as he realized that this round might not be lost.
“Heroic executed a perfect rotation! But there’s not much time left, Jiang Yang’s holding A with the AWP. This could be a fantastic opportunity. Can he capitalize on it?”
The clock was ticking down, making it extremely close.
If Jiang Yang could pull off a clutch now, the outcome might be different!
Jiang Yang was positioned at the safe corner of the A bomb site, aiming his AWP at the bookcase. As he heard footsteps from A1, he immediately tensed up.
If the AWP was taken from him, his team’s chances would be slim.
He didn’t scope in right away but instead turned his AWP to aim at A1.
Then he saw an unprepared enemy rushing into the bomb site.
Jiang Yang instantly fired, taking the enemy down.
After eliminating the enemy, he quickly pulled back behind cover. However, the second enemy quickly followed, and Jiang Yang didn’t have time to scope in again. He blindly fired a shot, hoping for a lucky hit.
But the shot hit the enemy’s leg, failing to secure the kill.
Jiang Yang covered his face in frustration. If that shot had landed, he could’ve pulled back and tried to reposition for another chance.
Though Xiao Sika was still alive, this 1v3 clutch seemed nearly impossible. With too little health left, Xiao Sika had no hope of a comeback.
“…That’s so unfortunate,” Ma Xixi lamented, pounding his chest. “If that shot had hit, if he had just delayed for two more seconds, it could’ve been a win!”
Viewers in the live stream shared the same feeling of disappointment. It felt like the result was just inches away from victory, and it left them with an uneasy sense of what could have been.
The match continued, and Pointy rushed to plant the bomb at the A site.
Stavn casually walked past him with a butterfly knife, swiping it at nearby boxes and pillars without realizing what had just happened.
He likely thought his team had no intention of retaking the site, so he was relaxed.
But no one expected this.
Stavn, absentmindedly swinging his knife, accidentally hit Pointy, who was already low on health.
【stavn+young used a butterfly knife to kill Cadian】
“What the hell just happened?!” Ma Xixi’s mood shifted dramatically, his frustration turning into disbelief. “Guys, we have an international friend now!! Stavn just helped Jiang Yang with an assist!”
“Is there time left? Stavn picks up the bomb and rushes to plant, but there’s not enough time!!!”
Ma Xixi cheered in the live stream.
【Stavn is amazing with that move!!】
【Beautiful!!!】
【Love the knife play! LOL】
【Heroic has an insider!!】
【They’re playing some strange tactics now!】
【I didn’t think the match would end like this, unbelievable!】
【So abstract!】
Steel Helm’s voice chat was filled with confusion.
“What’s going on?”
“Wait, did we just win this round?”
“What just happened?! This is too surreal!”
As they anxiously awaited the outcome, the clock ticked down, and the score jumped to 15:12.
Steel Helm’s players were left speechless.
“Is this how they’re going to win?”
“Heroic’s playing some crazy game!”
Jiang Yang smiled and sat up straight, giving a thumbs up toward Heroic’s war room.
That move by Heroic was definitely impressive.
The match entered another pause, and no one expected such a sudden turn of events.
During the pause, MO quickly shared his plan: “I’m going to give you the AWP, Jiang Yang. You toss smokes and fire at Police House.
Then, can you work with DD to take control of mid like we practiced?”
MO explained, “It’s the front push strat we practiced with NAVI.”
Jiang Yang nodded.
This wasn’t a tactic unique to NAVI but one S1mple often used in ladder matches. They thought it was simple and effective for unconventional situations.
The pause ended, and Jiang Yang moved with DD toward mid.
DD pushed along the wall toward mid, keeping an eye on the side path.
Jiang Yang held his AWP, covering DD’s side.
“Steel Helm’s MO is showing incredible nerves here, calling for a front push, but Heroic’s really following the script this time!”
“Mid and side paths are being contested quickly!”
“This could get rough for Steel Helm in mid!” Ma Xixi said, his voice filled with concern.
However, Jiang Yang, with his high sensitivity, quickly turned his head to avoid a flashbang, then instantly eliminated an enemy in mid.
“Linking with the AWP!” Stavn helplessly called out.
What he didn’t realize was that due to his position, he couldn’t see DD, who had already moved in and provided the wrong call.
The side path then exploded, and DD, taking advantage of the mistake, opened fire and eliminated one, then another, and almost a third. Unfortunately, the third enemy escaped with half health, but DD had already completed his task.
Seeing this, Jiang Yang didn’t get greedy. He threw a fire into mid and immediately retreated to link.
"Yes! This is how we should play, don’t give them any room for operation!!" Ma Xixi slammed his fist down. Having gained an advantage early on, he was really afraid that the steel helmet crew might act recklessly and give the enemy any opportunity to counterattack.
Both sides traded some players, and now they were in a huge advantage of 4v2, so they just needed to stabilize.
"It’s 4v2 now, guys, communicate and don’t give them the chance to secure a kill!" DD, who had already been eliminated, naturally became the fountain commander.
Jiang Yang was also quite steady, having retreated to the linked archway, positioning himself in an exaggerated angle.
After waiting for a while, Jiang Yang, with his focus fully on the game, saw the crosshair blocked by something, so he immediately pulled the trigger!
"—Bang!"
[young uses AWP to kill sjuush]
"Nice!! 4v1 now!!" DD loudly reminded over the voice chat.
Jiang Yang also retreated again, giving up his position.
However, this time when he peeked, he was immediately eliminated by the enemy’s Xantares, who made a huge peek and killed him instantly!
[refresh uses AK47 to headshot young]
Jiang Yang was extremely frustrated. He should have made a wider peek on that one.
But right after, he immediately reminded the team in the voice chat: "Guys, don’t give him the chance, he’s the Black guy, respect that ID!! Let him plant the bomb if you have to!"
The ID "refresh" wasn’t particularly famous, but in a situation like this, the pressure was immense. This was the guy who had once completed one of the hardest 1v5s in CSGO history.
Jiang Yang didn’t want them to become the next highlight reel for the enemy.
The air felt heavy, with only the communication of the surviving teammates and the sound of keyboards tapping filling the headphones.
The two players on B site decided to play it safe, positioning in the three-box and death corner to prevent any enemy action.
The stylish guy on A site also took cover in A2, fully respecting the concept of "no mistakes."
They waited patiently, but time was slowly ticking by above their heads, amplifying the tension in their hearts.
At times like this, they were genuinely afraid that a single mistake might ruin everything.
Suddenly, when switching to Su Di’s perspective, Jiang Yang saw a figure in his line of sight and immediately shouted, "Second box, second box!!"
As soon as he shouted, Su Di opened fire!
"Da-da-da!"
[karsa uses M4A1 to headshot refresh]
"Nice!!!"
The voice chat, which had been immersed in tension for almost a minute, erupted into excitement, everyone screaming.
"Su Di, you’re insane!!"
"Woohoo~ Is this World #5? Is this really World #5?"
"Now, this town is called Steel Helmet Town!!"
"Although I’ve said it a lot, little cousin, you’re truly world-class!! Incredible!!"
The group was shouting in joy, tearing off their headsets, unable to contain their excitement.
There were no words left. They were ranked #88 in the world, and their opponents were #5.
This match had been so difficult. Jiang Yang had pulled off a 1v5 in a losing situation, and the enemy had even TKed one of their own during a crucial round. That was how they had managed to win.
Even though the process was challenging, even though it was incredibly hard, the final result was what mattered.
They had won the first day’s match!
On CSBOY’s live stream, Ma Xixi shouted excitedly the moment the match ended!
"They didn’t give the Black guy any chance to make a comeback, and Su Di finally stepped up, killing the Black guy!!"
"16:12, the match is over!! Let’s congratulate Steel Helmet for taking the victory on Day 1!" Ma Xixi, wearing the Steel Helmet team jersey, shouted in front of the camera, clearly thrilled.
"Honestly, X Team played fine today, even though their form was a bit off, but Steel Helmet seized that opportunity. Little cousin kept the team safe, Stylish Guy and DD also stepped up. Even Su Di, usually the weakest in shooting, didn’t make any mistakes today!"
"You guys played so well, brothers!"
[Wow, X Team actually lost?]
[Is the Steel Helmet dynasty coming?]
[This is insane, #88 beats #5!!]
[I thought Steel Helmet was just here for tourism, but they came to win!]
[Steel Helmet is amazing!!]
[Little cousin and his four weak spots, today he only had two weak spots, and still secured the win!]
[World #5? Doesn’t matter, little cousin just outplayed World #5!]
Ma Xixi laughed, noticing Jiang Yang running to the back, picking up a small horse and cutely showing it to the camera.
Ma Xixi was even happier: "Brothers, forget everything else, today’s live stream is giving away two Snake Sniper rifles!! Send 'Steel Helmet is amazing' to participate!"
"Steel Helmet really came through today! The Major goals have been achieved, and there’s no pressure left for the rest."
Two Snake Snipers were worth over 20,000, but Ma Xixi was happy today and didn’t care about the small money.
"Little cousin, I really think you’re way stronger than Ben Tai Te!" MO said while joking about Jiang Yang’s short hair, giving him a compliment.
Jiang Yang shook his head. "We’re not even in the same role, what’s there to compare?"
He played the sniper role, and Ben Tai Te used to play rifles, so there wasn’t really a comparison.
"But you can trust my performance, alright? I carried the game!" Jiang Yang said confidently.
He had really enjoyed this match.
The pressure was high during the match, but the more pressure there was, the greater the satisfaction after winning.
Without pressure, what’s the point of playing? It would just be fish in a barrel.
Jiang Yang fist-bumped his teammates one by one, all grinning with happiness.
Just then, Mingri Qing came over from the resting area and reminded them, "It’s time to shake hands with the opponents."
MO quickly led the team to shake hands with the enemy team.
When stavn saw the members of Steel Helmet walking towards him, he remembered that the one who looked the best was young.
Losing this BO1 match really left him feeling unsatisfied. He had carried his team so much, but still lost in the end.
But he couldn’t blame his teammates, since a match that could have been won was lost because of his own mistake. He didn’t know what to say.
However, he had to admire the opposing player.
This genius youngster, where did he come from? His performance in the match was truly extraordinary.
Stavn felt like he was racking up kills, but his score couldn’t keep up with his opponent.
And then they pulled off a 1v5?
Were you some kind of highlight reel player?
When he saw young approaching, stavn reached out his hand for a handshake, feeling a sense of mutual respect.
Jiang Yang didn’t feel much, his heart was overwhelmed with happiness.
He then proceeded to shake hands with Cadian.
Though Cadian was upset about the loss, his attitude towards Jiang Yang was friendly.
"Younger player, next time, don’t do that to me. That 1v5 of yours was insane."
Faced with Heroic’s captain’s friendly exchange, Jiang Yang could only awkwardly smile. "I don’t know…"
He only understood the 1v5 part, but didn’t know how to express anything, so he just gave an awkward grin.
Cadian sighed and didn’t continue the conversation.
But watching the Steel Helmet team walk away, a look of admiration showed in his eyes. "Another top-tier young genius has appeared, this profession is really hard to play."
With such explosive potential + the "I don’t know" remark, it inevitably reminded him of Big Sweet Potato.
But compared to these young geniuses, Cadian’s career had been much harder.
Though everyone’s path was different, he couldn’t help but feel some mixed emotions.
Noticing that stavn seemed a bit self-blaming, Cadian adjusted his mood and said, "It’s fine, I know you didn’t mean it. You played well today, it was just an unfortunate mistake."
"Our mistakes were even bigger. Don’t let that one point get to you."
Even though he was frustrated by that key round, Cadian knew the match was over, and blaming the kids he had helped raise wouldn’t do any good.
Stavn pursed his lips, watching Jiang Yang walk away, but didn’t respond.
What do you think?
