Chapter 926: Chapter 926: The Identity of the Third Party Revealed

“Cory, did you just call Xaviera a mistress? Do you dare to repeat that in front of me?”

Mrs. Russell was once the head of the Russell family. She had a natural aura of authority and pride. Even a simple question would make those around her break out in a cold sweat. Overwhelmed by her fierce presence, Cory could only bow his head and remain silent.

“What has Xaviera done wrong? Nina and Miss Drew made an engagement for their daughter; where would a mistress’s granddaughter come into play?”

As soon as these words came out, it was like a thunderbolt exploding in everyone’s ears. The mistress’s granddaughter? Was Letitia Russell referring to Madam Hughes?

Cory’s face turned ashen, and after a few seconds of silence, he gritted his teeth and spoke: “Letitia, watch your mouth!”

Right after he spoke, Xaviera sneered, folding her arms and looking at him with cold, disdainful eyes. “Is Sir Hughes feeling embarrassed and angry? Is what my grandmother said not the truth?”

Jerome Russell chimed in sarcastically: “In our grandfather’s heart, there are only Madam Hughes and Zora. The children of the original wife aren’t important to him at all.”

Everyone was dumbfounded, not expecting to learn such shocking news. After all, the marriage alliance between the Russell and Hughes family took place decades ago, and there was no contact between Letitia and Cory since their divorce. So, only a few people knew that they had once been husband and wife.

Not wanting to give Cory any face, Jerome sighed helplessly: “Madam Hughes, you broke up my grandparents’ marriage when you became a mistress. We Russells have already let go of that, but how can you have the nerve to let Xaviera call you her grandmother? Our cousin Xaviera is very close to her real grandmother, so naturally, she cannot call you that.”

“Don’t be in a hurry to refute; when my grandmother married into the Hughes family, everyone in Holy City knew that she was the rightful hostess of the Hughes family. Yet, your son Cory is older than Aunt Nina, doesn’t that explain everything?”

As the son of Madam Hughes and Cory, Zora Hughes’ father, was older than Nina Hughes, it was clear that Cory had cheated on his wife and had an illegitimate child with Madam Hughes, thus proving her status as a mistress.

Madam Hughes never expected that her past scandal would be exposed, and she was so humiliated that she wished she could immediately flee the banquet hall. Trembling uncontrollably, she slumped into a nearby chair as weakness washed over her.

Everyone could hardly believe what they were witnessing. So, Madam Hughes had actually been the mistress, and Zora Hughes’ father was an illegitimate child? The perfect image of the wealthy family’s daughter was shattered in an instant.

Back when the Hughes family was down and out decades ago, Letitia, as a daughter of the prestigious Russell family, was exceedingly glamorous. When she and Cory married, it was practically like Cory was marrying into her family. Thanks to the benefits and connections gained from the Russell family, the prosperous Hughes family thrived today. Yet, Cory not only took advantage of them but also had an affair.

Cory was ungrateful, not only cheating on Letitia but also forcing his granddaughter to address the mistress as her grandmother. Wasn’t that making life difficult for her?

Letitia walked up and took Xaviera’s hand, her icy gaze falling on Madam Hughes as a sneer of disdain emerged from her nostrils: “How dare you scold my granddaughter? You’re nothing but a mistress, and who gave you the courage? Cory, was it?”

With her head bowed, Madam Hughes broke into a cold sweat; she said nothing in response to Letitia’s questioning.

Jerome quickly agreed: “Some people are just so shameless. They seduced men to get ahead and now want a piece of Aunt Nina’s inheritance, even trying to bully my cousin. They have faces thicker than a city wall!”

Seeing the trembling Madam Hughes, Zora Hughes could not help but sob: “Cousin, how can you say such things about my grandmother? That was all in the past, and now…”

“She had the nerve to do it, and can’t I even talk about it? Besides, she’s not my grandmother, so am I obliged to respect her?” Jerome chuckled coldly, his eyes filled with indifference.

“Moreover, it seems that Madam Hughes was the first to scold Xaviera. That’s why I struck back. Certain people are just morally corrupt mistresses, trying to scold a daughter of the Russell family. It’s utterly ridiculous!”

Madam Hughes’ legs went weak, and her face twisted in rage. If it weren’t for the reporters present, she would never have swallowed her anger!

Zora Hughes quickly tried to smooth things over for Madam Hughes, then turned to Jerome with a mournful face: “Cousin, what do you want? Are you trying to drive my grandmother to her death?”
