Chapter 89 - 89 88 The First Interviewee
Chapter 89: Chapter 88 The First Interviewee Chapter 89: Chapter 88 The First Interviewee May 2, 2023, intermittent rain, 12~24°C.
“Ding-a-ling—ding-a-ling—”
The alarm clock rang in the quiet little bedroom.
Sun Youguang quickly sat up from the bed, grabbed his cell phone, and his head, originally a bit groggy, instantly cleared.
“Isn’t today a day off, why did you still set an alarm?” his girlfriend muttered sleepily, turning over and falling back asleep.
Sun Youguang kissed her face, got out of bed lightly, casually draped on a jacket, and carrying his laptop, he went to the living room.
Rain pattered down outside the window; the living room was pitch dark, and gusts of cold wind made him shiver.
He turned on the lights and closed the windows.
Sitting at the dining table, he opened his laptop and began to quietly review financial accounting interview questions.
The rain stopped and started again, while it was still dark outside.
“Good grief, you scared me, Brother Sun. What’s up so early in the living room?” his roommate, getting up to use the bathroom, asked.
Sun Youguang smiled sheepishly, “I have some unfinished work, and Li Juan is still sleeping, so I came out to do it.”
“Man, no job is easy these days. Keep it up, Brother Sun,” the roommate muttered before heading into the bathroom to relieve himself.
At 7:30 a.m., Sun Youguang started cooking a pot of red date millet porridge.
Continued reviewing interview questions.
At 7:50 a.m., Sun Youguang closed his laptop.
He took out two pieces of hand-grabbed pancake from the fridge, spread on eggs, and cooked them.
He also picked a few leaves of fresh lettuce, drizzled them with ketchup, and rolled them up.
Walking into the small bedroom, he softly said to his still-sleeping girlfriend, “Juan’er, it’s time to get up for breakfast.”
His girlfriend opened her bleary eyes, yawned, and said sleepily, “Thanks, dear. I’ll make you braised pork for lunch.”
“Haha, okay.”
The clean dining table was laid with bowls of steaming porridge and hand-grabbed pancakes.
His girlfriend took a bite of the pancake and said, “Your company really takes advantage of you guys. Working overtime is one thing, but they make you go to work on a rainy holiday, too.”
“Can’t help it, there’s an urgent situation.”
“Right, when are you going to talk to your boss about getting a raise?”
“Uh… let’s wait and see. Now’s not the time.”
Tonight, let’s go over our accounts, okay? Let’s see how much we’ve saved and try to gather 150,000 by the end of the year to look at houses back home.”
“Okay,” Sun Youguang replied somewhat guiltily, his eyes full of worry.
He and his girlfriend were college classmates, both working as financial accountants in Yan City after graduation, earning over 4000 each.
To buy a house and get married, they had always been frugal, living in a small rented room on the outer ring of the city, far from downtown, insistent on cooking for themselves, seldom shopping for clothes, and taking part-time jobs when possible.
What his girlfriend didn’t know was that he had been laid off a few days ago, and he had been sending out resumes since, but there weren’t many opportunities for interviews.
The company he was interviewing with today was somewhat special—it arranged interviews during holidays and was just a newly established small company that had not yet started its operations.
The advantage was that it had a cash capital of one million, offered decent pay, and the workplace was in the Cloud Stream Building.
For him, unemployed and in desperate need of steady income, it was a rare opportunity.
After breakfast, his girlfriend started cleaning the kitchen and tidying up.
Sun Youguang washed up seriously, changed into a relatively formal outfit, hugged his girlfriend goodbye, put on his backpack, took his umbrella, and quickly walked downstairs.
Braving the wind and rain, he took the bus and transferred to the subway; after 40 minutes, he finally arrived at the Cloud Stream Building.
Surrounded by towering skyscrapers soaring into the sky, the modern city’s bustle and vitality were on full display.
Sun Youguang shook his drenched umbrella and put it into the bag handed to him by the property staff.
He walked into the spacious and luxurious lobby, and couldn’t help but think to himself that the Yan City’s top office building was truly nice.
The office environment at his previous company paled in comparison to this place.
After tidying his hair and clothes, he approached the beautiful receptionist and said, “Hello, I’m here for an interview. Could you help me access the door please?”
“3001, Songmei Clothing.”
“Okay, thank you, thank you!”
He took the bright high-speed elevator straight to the 30th floor.
As the elevator doors slowly opened, Sun Youguang’s heartbeat sped up, silently preparing his self-introduction.
Entering through the wide-open glass doors, the girl sitting at the front desk quickly stood up and said gently, “Hello, are you here for the interview?”
Sun Youguang took out a resume from his backpack and handed it over, saying nervously, “Yes, here’s my resume. Sorry for being early.”
Not wanting his girlfriend to find out about his unemployment, he had left at the normal time people go to work. He was supposed to meet at 10, but arrived at 9:20.
The girl took the resume, glanced at the name, and said with a gentle smile, “So you’re Mr. Sun, we’ve communicated over the phone before, I am Gao Mengting. The company doesn’t have a receptionist yet and I’m filling in for the time being. Come on, let’s go to the conference room to chat.”
After that, she walked out from behind the front desk.
Clean, light makeup, fluffy brown hair, trendy and mature office attire, and a tall and graceful figure.
The perfect urban beauty look.
Sun Youguang took a deep breath and found it hard to look at her.
So this was the Vice President of Songmei Clothing. So beautiful.
Circling the simple yet grand front desk, stepping on the soft sound-absorbing carpet, Sun Youguang surveyed his surroundings.
The entire office area was in light tones, bright and stylish.
The decor, fixtures, furniture, and appliances were all brand new, with workstations adorned with potted flowers, sofas, and shelving units.
This was the best-decorated and most pleasant office Sun Youguang had ever seen; comfortable, cozy, and upscale.
Working here would be an absolute pleasure, and he was very tempted.
If he could stay, and the company’s business was stable, a 5k salary would be wonderful.
Inside the conference room.
Sun Youguang looked around.
Soft leather chairs, a solid wood long table.
A 70-inch TV faced him, and the long conference table had various data interfaces.
While not large, the decor was high-end.
“Knock, knock, knock—” the glass door was gently tapped, and Sun Youguang quickly sat up straight.
Immediately after, Vice President Gao entered, followed by a tall and handsome man.
He wore a well-fitted suit, his face adorned with a faint smile.
“This is our company’s General Manager, Tang Song. As it’s the startup phase, you’re our first interviewee, so both of us will interview you together,” Gao Mengting introduced the man beside her and placed a cup of warm water in front of him.
“Thank you.”
The two sat down across from him.
After a few brief pleasantries,
Gao Mengting looked at the document in her hand and said, “Let’s start with a simple self-introduction.”
“My name is Sun Youguang, I graduated from Yan City University of Economics and Trade with a major in accounting, and I have three and a half years of financial accounting experience…”
Sun Youguang crossed his hands on the conference table, looking at the two people, trying to appear candid and composed.
…
“How should period costs and cost of goods sold be distinguished?”
“Period costs refer to expenses incurred in the daily activities of a company…”
“What does the provision for impairment include?”
…
A question and answer exchange filled the conference room.
As the conversation entered his area of expertise, Sun Youguang gradually relaxed, and his responses became smoother.
What do you think?
