Chapter 27: Chapter 30: Memories from 6 Years Ago (1) Chapter 27: Chapter 30: Memories from 6 Years Ago (1) The night wind blew head-on, carrying a faint fragrance from the man ahead, mixed with Percy Stanton’s unique aristocratic aura.
Isabel Smith finally looked up and glanced at Percy, who had been dragging her along. From his profile, she could see that he was still angry.
Such Percy was a sight she had never seen before.
His elegance, indifference, and restrained allure were still there, but Isabel felt that this man’s aura was far too overwhelming.
So powerful and inscrutable that she could not fathom it.
In her entire life, this was the first time she had felt this way about someone.
Isabel pursed her lips, not daring to speak, and let Percy lead her quickly by the hand.
Her hand held tightly by Percy, Isabel was wearing 10-centimeter high heels and couldn’t walk fast. Percy had a large stride and a fiery temper, dragging her along in long, quick steps. Isabel had no choice but to trot along in her high heels, quickly forsaking any attempt at elegance or grace. She simply stumbled after him.
As they passed an underground tunnel cover, the sharp and slender heel of Isabel’s shoe caught on the edge. Her foot came to an abrupt stop, and she felt a force pulling on her hand. Her foot slipped out of her open-toed high heels, and under Percy’s pull, she took two steps forward, barefoot.
With one foot still in a shoe, and the other bare, Isabel had difficulty walking evenly. She took the opportunity to toss away her other high heel, running along barefooted behind Percy.
Initially, she was light on her feet, but the friction between her bare feet and the hard ground soon began to hurt, making her steps increasingly awkward and ungainly.
Later on, Isabel could feel a sharp pain with every step, and her pace, trying to keep up with Percy’s brisk walk, gradually slowed down.
Percy seemed to sense something was amiss with Isabel and suddenly stopped in his tracks, turning around.
Lowering her head, wincing and grinning, Isabel walked forward, not noticing that the man in front of her had stopped. She accidentally bumped into Percy’s chest.
Isabel was startled when the man in front suddenly halted, and quickly jumped back, looking up at Percy with wide eyes.
Percy had good genes, which made him much taller than the average man, with his legs alone measuring 1.2 meters.
Isabel was a true Bellshire local, and her height was not considered short among women. When she wore the 10-centimeter high heels, she would barely pass Percy’s shoulders. But now, standing barefoot on the highway, she was considerably shorter, only reaching Percy’s chest level.
Percy frowned and looked down, only to see Isabel standing barefoot in front of him.
Those small, delicate, fair feet were now dirty, and even the tail of her long skirt trailed on the ground, turning gray.
Seeing Percy staring at her feet, Isabel looked down too, and her face turned slightly awkward.
She had always been a beauty-conscious girl, trying her best to present her most perfect side to others. But she had embarrassed herself repeatedly in front of Percy – first, their awkward chance encounter during the heavy rain, and now, running barefoot on the main street.
Filled with a sense of embarrassment, Isabel held her chin up and pretended it was nothing, explaining: “The shoes were too uncomfortable, so I threw them away.”
Percy didn’t say anything but looked up and stared at Isabel’s face for a while. Then, all of a sudden, he raised his hand.
What do you think?
