Chapter 295
Over the past week, I had met with Duke Agnes and his wife, as well as the other parents in turn. The plan was approaching its final stages.
Although it was an unavoidable choice, we kept it a strict secret from the Earth-based parents that we weren't just an ordinary couple. All four of them accepted it as an unfortunate necessity.
It wasn’t as if we had any other option unless we wanted to face the repercussions head-on. Unlike the other world, most countries on Earth do not tolerate polygamy, especially not when it involves an internationally famous S-rank hunter and the leader of the world's strongest guild.
Even if we were to move somewhere in the Middle East, the internet wouldn't leave it alone. Every kind of rumor and gossip would spread, followed by endless ridicule and criticism.
I had no desire to become the target of all that unnecessary attention.
“How did it go, Priscilla?”
“They were thrilled. Mom was convinced I’d never find someone,” she replied, grinning. Priscilla’s Earth-based mother was overjoyed to learn that her daughter finally had a boyfriend.
She was so enthusiastic that she nearly suggested setting the wedding date immediately. Priscilla had to stop her before it got out of hand.
Afterward, she went all out, preparing a massive spread of food, and then she spent about five hours recounting stories from Priscilla’s childhood.
Priscilla was beside herself, trying to intervene whenever her mother touched on something too sensitive. Her efforts to protect her dignity spoke volumes.
“I can’t tell you how much heartache she caused me. When she finally decided to go out after two weeks indoors—”
“Mom! Mom!” Priscilla interrupted, alarmed.
What do you think?
