Chapter 39 - 39 39 Alexander Huge Pressure_1
Chapter 39: Chapter 39 Alexander? Huge Pressure!_1 Chapter 39: Chapter 39 Alexander? Huge Pressure!_1 It was a Wednesday afternoon, around two o’clock, and as the students swarm out, the preparatory building slowly quietened down.
Alexander had a cup of hot water and took a rest, preparing to finish for the day.
He strained to lift a big backpack that was hidden under his office desk, crammed full of all sorts of rubber and cotton slippers, all sourced from the wholesale market.
Later, he had to rush to the subway station to sell the shoes, hoping to sell a few more pairs today…
Just like his name, he was under “great stress”!
In middle age, with elderly parents and young children, although he didn’t need to take care of the elders at home and their health was reasonably good with pensions, he still had his wife and children to care for…
The only income they had was his monthly pay of a bit over three hundred US dollars. His wife was a housewife, and they had two children, one in junior high and the other in primary school.
The family lived in an old house that was just over forty square meters.
It wasn’t easy to establish a foothold in Moscow…
Just as he was about to head out, two students arrived at the office door.
“Teacher, do you have a moment, we have something to talk to you about,” asked the taller of the two boys with a smile.
Alexander, who had taught mathematics to several classes, including to Wang Ye, assumed the two students had an academic question they wanted help with.
So he replied, “Ok, come on in, but we don’t have much time, I’ll be heading out shortly.”
After Wang Ye and Xiao Hu came in and closed the door, the three were alone in the office.
“What sort of problem have you encountered in your studies? By the way, Wang, isn’t your Russian excellent? How could you struggle with these simple preparatory questions?” asked Alexander curiously.
He had an impressive recollection of Wang Ye because of his excellent Russian!
He was the best Russian-speaking student he had taught in his preparatory classes so far!
Wang Ye gave a smile and explained, “It’s not about studying, it’s something else. Let me introduce, this is Xiao Hu. His family is planning to open a company in Moscow.”
Alexander was confused – what does this have to do with him?
If they want to open a company, let them open it. There’s no need to report it to him…
He knew that many of his students, especially those studying abroad from China, might not come here just to study. As soon as they graduated or even before graduation, they might start doing business…
So, he wasn’t surprised by such developments.
What confused him, though, was why the student’s family business matters were being brought to him.
Wang Ye cut to the chase and asked, “Well, teacher, would you be interested in working for his company? It’s a legitimate business, not a stall in the market.”
He emphasized this, fearing that Alexander might misunderstand.
Russians are inherently “proud” deep down, especially intellectuals like Alexander. Even if the wages were several times higher, he might not be willing to sell goods at a market stall!
But if it’s a bona fide company with some scale, that’s another matter entirely.
Indeed, Alexander was taken aback, and counter-questioned “A legitimate company? What do you do? Where is the office located?”
“We deal with branded sports shoes, and the company is currently in the process of registration. It rents its office space in the Alpha Hotel,” Wang Ye calmly relayed.
As someone who frequently travels to the market, Alexander was well-acquainted with the Alpha Hotel.
Once he heard the company was based there, he became interested. Because to rent a place there meant that the company is pretty solid and indeed legal.
He hesitated, wanting to ask about the salary package, but didn’t have the guts to ask right out.
After all, he was a teacher. Discussing this in front of students always felt slightly inappropriate…
Wang Ye understood what he was thinking and without waiting for him to ask further, jumped straight in with, “If you were to come on board, teacher, you would be the Sales Manager. There’s a base salary of $1,500 per month, with performance-related bonuses! I guess it should add up to at least $2,000 per month.”
“Two thousand USD!”
Alexander was completely taken aback by this figure!
He only made a bit over three hundred dollars per month teaching preparatory classes at Friendship University. This barely covered his family’s expenses, hence why he resorted to selling slippers at the subway station after work…
As an intellectual, he would under no circumstances do such a thing were it not for his desperate circumstances.
Now hearing that he could earn up to two thousand dollars per month by working for the Hu family’s company, it sparked his interest.
This would be enough money for his family to live very comfortably!
In Moscow, that salary would be considered high-paying.
Keep in mind that even the heads of key university faculties didn’t make this much here at Friendship University.
Two thousand dollars, one could buy a 90% new Lada car…
In some less developed areas, this could buy a double square meter luxury apartment!
Wang Ye continued, “The company will employ mainly Russians, aside from the Chinese owner. It will keep investing, striving to make this brand known across the Eastern European Market!”
He was dangling a carrot in front of Alexander. After all, an ambitious company is more attractive.
Indeed, Alexander no longer hesitated. He eagerly asked, “Will the company sign a formal labor contract?”
Wang Ye looked at Xiao Hu. After all, it was not his company, but the Hu family’s.
Xiao Hu simply nodded and straightforwardly confirmed, “Yes!”
With that clarified, Alexander was no longer hesitant to discuss company matters with Wang Ye and Xiao Hu, leaving his slippers for the subway station for another day.
Wang Ye seized the opportunity to explain some relevant matters about the company to Alexander, including venue rental, company registration, and, of course, poaching salesmen from the market…
On hearing this, Alexander laughed out loud, deftly pulled out an old phone, and expertly scrolled through his contact list.
Pointing to a list of names, he said:
“This is absolutely no problem! I’ve noted the phone numbers of many Russians at the market. Some of them are pretty good and have several years of experience under their belt. Once the company venue is rented in a couple of days, I could arrange for them to visit the office after work. As long as the salary isn’t less than what they earn at the big market, they will certainly be willing to work for the company…”
It’s quite normal. The working environment in the big market is unsatisfactory, to say the least.
After a long day, it’s not just the leg pain from standing, the noise alone could make heads ring…
If the salary is the same or even higher, who wouldn’t want to work in a legitimate company, sitting comfortably in a bright, clean office?
Alexander also wanted to secure his position first. He decided to wait until the rental contract for the company premises was finalized before helping the company poach personnel.
What do you think?
