Chapter 231 - 231 229 Thorns of Calmness
Chapter 231: Chapter 229: Thorns of Calmness Chapter 231: Chapter 229: Thorns of Calmness Going on a business trip to a faraway place?
It was obviously a friendly lie.
“Angel, could you go sun-dry the mushrooms, please?”
“Okay.”
Angel obediently went out.
Sally looked at her, “What happened?”
“Angel’s dad joined me in the Holy War.”
“…I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay. So many people died, the fact that I could survive and return to Angel’s side already makes me very lucky. Sally, how did you end up here?”
“Me?” Remembering that she had dropped a huge bomb and then ran off, Sally realized it had been a spur-of-the-moment decision.
After seeing how peaceful Lena and Angel’s life was, quiet and untroubled, had she to do it over, she likely wouldn’t have used that devastating weapon.
But if it meant annihilating the army of Evil Beasts, it might spare the continent from future invasions and ravages.
Forget it, what’s done is done, why keep thinking about it?
She quickly pushed the matter to the back of her mind.
“Ethan is still alone,” Sally said to Lena, “His private restaurant is still open. Frans said he’s hiring, but he turns away every applicant.”
Lena’s expression paused slightly, “He…”
Sally replied, “I think he’s been waiting for you.”
Leaving it at that, Sally didn’t go on.
However, Lena’s expression seemed a bit bitter.
“I didn’t expect to meet you and your child here; this is a gift for you both.” Sally took out a Storage Bag and handed it to Lena—it contained some daily necessities and food for a child.
“Thank you, Sally.” Without the Offspring System, Lena had lost her space, with all the items inside having vanished, as had her innate talents.
Now, this Storage Bag was extremely rare and precious to her.
…
“Why have you come again?” Angel’s angry voice came from the yard into the house.
Sally and Lena stepped outside one after the other.
They saw several males carrying a pink palanquin towards them.
“Of course, we’re here to take your mother to the city to enjoy wealth and honor,” said the leader, a hunched male with a Fu Manchu mustache and shifty eyes, looking at Lena in a disgustingly rude and presumptuous manner, emitting a foul stench.
“Satchi, you’ve gone too far!” Lena snapped angrily.
“We have a guest, I see.” Satchi then turned his gaze to Sally.
Sally’s obviously pregnant waist, her delicate and exquisite face, luxuriously dressed from head to toe, and the air of high status in her eyes and brows, even without knowing who she was, it was clear she was someone of importance. Especially a pregnant female—fertility meant she was not to be trifled with.
“Who might this distinguished female be?” Satchi took a step closer to Sally.
Lena immediately became tense, positioning herself in front of Sally, “What are you doing?”
Satchi looked disdainfully at Lena, “Move aside, don’t block me from getting to know this noble female.”
“But I don’t want to know you, get lost!” Sally raised her hand, and a fireball flew into the palanquin.
The palanquin was reduced to ash in an instant, without even a moment to burn.
Not only was she of high status and fertile, but she also possessed remarkable talents! Satchi realized he had stumbled upon someone who was not to be provoked.
“My apologies, my apologies, we’re leaving, my men and I will leave immediately,” Satchi hurried away with his people.
Angel looked at Sally with astonishment as she raised her hand and fire burst forth. “Auntie Su, you are so amazing!”
“Your mother used to be even more incredible,” Sally replied with a smile. “You go and play; your mother and I will talk some more.”
Lena’s heart was filled with helplessness and sorrow.
Her father and younger brother had encountered an Abyssal Beast while hunting. In an effort to save her brother, her father was eaten by the Beast.
And her brother, seeking revenge for their father, had joined the Holy Church and had never returned since.
Her mother had fallen gravely ill, and Lena had just made it back in time to see her one last time. As for Angel, due to her physical disabilities, she was abandoned by her grandparents and left in the care of her mother.
After managing her mother’s affairs, Lena had moved to the mountains with Angel, hoping to lead a peaceful life.
But it wasn’t that easy.
Because she frequently took Angel to see doctors, she caught the eye of the local bully. He harassed her repeatedly, and now that he knew she was looking for work and struggling to get by, he had become even more brazen.
“Why don’t you go back to the Holy City?” Sally asked, looking at her with pity.
Lena shook her head, “Without the Offspring System, I’ve lost everything.”
Sally looked outside at Angel playing happily, “What’s wrong with her body?”
Lena replied, “After she turned six and took human form, she exhibited dual gender characteristics. However, the male aspect was deformed, while the female one was complete. I found a Witch Clan member I used to know well, who said it was possible to remove part of it, but it might be risky to her life.”
Sally frowned, “Maybe you should still go to the Holy City, where the conditions are better. And in the Royal Court, there are the best Witch Priests.”
Lena felt tempted and looked out at Angel.
“The child’s health is more important,” Sally said as she took a piece of fruit from the plate, biting into its sour-sweet flesh. “This is really tasty.”
“These are wild fruits from the mountain. If you like them, Sister Su, I’ll pick more for you next time,” Lena pushed the plate towards Sally.
“Hmm, let’s pick them together.” Sally looked at the simple room, which didn’t have much to pack, “So, shall we go to the Holy City tomorrow?”
“…Whatever you say, Sister Su,” Lena’s eyes flickered with unease, but they were filled more with hope.
Sally patted her shoulder, “Since you call me ‘sister,’ you can lean on me more, otherwise what’s the point of calling me that.”
Lena couldn’t help but embrace her, “Thank you, Sister Su.”
…
Lena got up early, first to pay respects to her parents, then she picked all the ripe wild fruits on the mountain, filling three large baskets.
Sally slept in and, upon waking, looked at the three baskets of fruit and playfully scolded, “Why didn’t you wake me up to help?”
“Sister Su, you’re pregnant, it’s better for you to get more sleep,” Lena said deftly as she finished preparing the meal.
“When you become a mother, you must be strong; you’re a completely different person from before,” Sally commented.
“Thinking back on my reckless past, it’s quite lamentable. I didn’t properly plan out my life, leading to my current predicament,” Lena remarked.
“It’s okay, you’ve only just begun. Starting over is what matters.”
“Yes,” Lena glanced at Angel.
The little girl ate the plentiful breakfast, oblivious and happy.
After quickly eating a few bites, Lena busied herself with packing.
Just as they were ready to leave, a group of people arrived. In addition to yesterday’s Satchi, there was a young male dressed in fine clothes.
When he saw Sally, his eyes widened, “What a beautiful woman! Seize her! Today everyone gets a share~”
With the promise of a share for themselves, the lackeys rushed at Sally and Lena with murderous intent.
“Master, I hurt my back yesterday, I think I’ll go back first; you folks enjoy,” Satchi said as he turned and ran.
He was bad, but not stupid; he knew better than to mess with that noble female!
What do you think?
