Chapter 1094 Crumbling
Chapter 1094 Crumbling
They had gotten a lot of information from Whisker tonight alone.
Aside from the number of his siblings vying for control over Eldoralth, he had also asked for their details, their powers, abilities, habits, personalities. Everything.
Whisker had been nice enough to share. And after piecing the information together, Atticus had come to one conclusion.
'The man controlling the Dimensari and Vampyros is currently the most dangerous.'
It had to be remembered, the siblings controlling the Zorvans were the ones who had created the Obsidian Order… and more importantly, they were the ones who had crafted the life artifact that had trapped him.
Still, Atticus had decided that this man… was more dangerous.
'He outplayed me…'
That had been the root of his anger. The reason he had been so on edge. He had just found out something devastating.
Immediately after the battle at the military camp, after earning the ire of the Dimensari, Vampyros, and Drakon races, Atticus had thought long and hard about his next move.
The man he suspected was pulling the strings behind those races was too much of a threat. And Atticus hadn't wanted to take any risks.
He knew war was coming.
So, he had decided, instantly, to activate the Aegis Shield.
It hadn't been a decision made out of fear. If it were only him, Atticus wouldn't have done it. He'd have taken the risk and let whatever happened, happen. If worst came to worst, he had means of escaping.
But he had a family. People he had to protect. And for that reason, he sealed himself, and the others, inside the human domain, planning to grow powerful enough to withstand whatever that man threw his way.
But now… he was starting to regret it.
'To think he would actually attack them…'
Atticus was still stunned by the man's move. While he had been trapped inside the shield, the man had stormed the other Apex domains and retrieved their cores.
'But he said some of them still survived, right?' Ozeroth asked.
"Yeah," Atticus muttered.
Fortunately, Whisker's brother hadn't been able to get to all of them.
The Vampyros, Obliteri, and Aeonians.
"At least they had enough brains to act," Ozeroth added with a scoff.
Atticus didn't reply. Instead, he thought about what Whisker had told him.
Lirae, Maera, and Ae'ark had apparently decided that their future would be safer with Atticus. They had wanted to come to the human domain.
Unfortunately, by the time they made that decision, Atticus had already activated the Aegis Shield, and they couldn't get in.
But luckily, Whisker had found them. And of course, he'd shamelessly introduced himself as Atticus's 'best friend.'
Coupled with the fact that they had seen him at the Nexus banquet, when he helped Atticus, they had been inclined to trust him.
Because of that, they were each currently inside Whisker's world.
'At least it's better than them being in his arms…'
Atticus wasn't entirely comfortable trusting Whisker with them, not by a long shot. But still… it was better than them being caught by that obviously hostile sibling.
Ozeroth broke the silence. "Are you planning on doing what he asked you to do?"
Atticus paused.
Among all the information he'd gathered, there was something else. Something more personal. He had found out Whisker's supposed goal.
To kill his father.
Atticus wasn't a hundred percent sure if he should trust it or not. After all, Whisker was still Whisker. Unpredictable. Chaotic. A little too smug for his own good.
He had asked why… but Whisker hadn't been in the mood to share. Not even a little.
Still, from that short exchange, Atticus had sensed it. The shift in Whisker's expression. The way he avoided the topic like it physically hurt. It was clearly something sensitive.
So, Atticus had dropped it.
But now… as he thought about the entire situation, as he laid everything out in his mind, he came to a quiet conclusion.
He would probably do it.
'Because it aligns with our goal.'
Whisker's father was at the root of it all. He had been the one to send Whisker and his siblings here in the first place.
Which meant…
He was an enemy. One Atticus would eventually have to face and deal with, regardless of anyone else's agenda.
As he reached that conclusion, Atticus calmed down.
'Whisker was right. I should face what's in front of me first.'
"What! What about me!?" Ozeroth suddenly burst out. "I gave you great advice too!"
Atticus gave him a look. "Relax. It's not a competition."
Ozeroth grumbled under his breath and continued talking, clearly not satisfied, but Atticus only shook his head and tuned him out.
'First,' he thought, more to himself now, 'I'll face the current major threat.'
That was Whisker's brother, the one controlling the Dimensari and Vampyros.
From Whisker's words, Atticus had quickly understood what kind of person he was.
A planner.
'The worst kind of enemy to have.'
He had already proved this with his precise targeting of the other Apexes. But that was only part of the problem.
Unfortunately, Whisker's brother's actions had consequences, ones that would affect them.
On his mission to retrieve the cores, he had launched coordinated attacks on the Regenerari and the Evolari, killing many of their top leaders.
That, combined with the fact that the Dimensari and Vampyros leadership had already declared open war against humanity, and with the Dragon leader dead, the entire alliance was starting to fall apart.
As news of the deaths and chaos spread throughout the military camp, panic followed.
Many warriors abandoned their posts, rushing back to their own races with claims of taking revenge. Orders were being ignored. Structure was crumbling.
The powers that had once held the alliance together were fractured, barely clinging to authority.
And to make things worse, the Zorvans had sensed the weakness, and they were pushing hard.
Their warzones were being overrun, and the armies of the alliance were being forced back at a terrifying pace. Without a solid command holding everything together, the entire front was on the verge of collapse.
And yet… at the center of all this madness stood Atticus and Ozeroth.
Two beings who, despite everything they had just found out, had decided to stop thinking for a moment, and instead, were bantering like nothing else mattered.
What do you think?
