Atticus exhaled heavily, taking in deep, calming breaths. His chest rose and fell steadily as he tried to steady his body.
Then, slowly, he opened his eyes once more.
They were still mismatched, one blue, one purple, but now a new color had entered the mix.
At the top of each iris, a sharpened slice of obsidian black etched itself, looking like a slice of pie or pizza.
But his appearance wasn't what had his attention.
Atticus raised his arms slowly and stared at his hands.
To most, they would've seemed normal. But to him? They were very different. The air around them trembled, forming faint distortions that bent light and shimmered like heat waves.
Atticus smiled, and then—
Blip.
His body vanished.
Blip.
He reappeared at the edge of the training room.
Blip. Blip. Blip.
He blinked across the space, appearing and disappearing at a speed that surpassed even the limits of his space element, at its current level.
He stopped in the center of the room, completely wide-eyed and breathless.
