Ascension of Chaos

Chapter 153 B2 | 15

Ashley

I don't bother spending time on the central island. Because there's absolutely no reason to at the start of the event. Not when I should wait to kill other hunters here until after they already have points for me to take.

It'd be a waste of time otherwise to kill them just for their Skill Trees.

Although I'll admit their Skill Trees are rather attractive despite that thought.

But I can get them later.

For now I fly straight up into the air and begin moving towards one of the closest islands. And I'm not the only one with this idea as I see several other hunters doing the same thing. Pretty much everyone who can fly in the first place.

Whether that's through their wings, their skills, or their spells.

Something that I forget about happens, leaving me feeling a little awkward and hurriedly using Assimilate.

When my eyes happen to land on a few of the other hunters while they're flying over the void between the islands, they start to fall as glowing crimson cracks appear around them and on their flight spells. With two of them even falling down to their deaths while the others manage to save themselves.

I blink as I fly through the air just briefly staring at the two people I accidentally killed. One of whom was flying through the air on a cloud of lightning that just kind of cracked apart with glowing crimson cracks and dissipated. Meanwhile the other one was surfing on giant roots connecting the central island to the next island. Roots of which just fell apart thanks to my gaze.

Huh.

Oops?

"Well that was anticlimactic," Chaos mutters. "You should see the audience's reaction right now. It's comedy gold."

I probably don't want to. And the other hunters are looking at me like I'm some sort of demon.

It's not my fault though. How else am I supposed to figure out where everyone is and where they're going without looking at them? They're too far for enhanced perception.

"At least the audience seems to love it," Chaos says, sounding rather amused.

On that note, I go ahead and check my new skills while I fly. Or one of them, at least. Seeing as the other is just another mana manipulation skill.

{Lightning Cloak – Allows the user to cloak their body with lightning, increasing their speed and reflexes.}

Well that's nice.

Out of curiosity I try the skill out, and immediately after doing so I find my flight speed increasing quite a bit as sparks of lightning crackle all around my body.

Very useful.

So with that I fly straight to the closest island, at which point I awkwardly realize that no one else is joining me on this island. Leaving it all to me.

Even the other Successors went to other islands.

Although for all I know, the Successor of Sin may just be avoiding meeting me while flying. What with the results of the other two people I accidentally killed.

Once I finally land on the island, I glance at the bridges connecting the other islands. And fortunately for the people currently crossing said bridges, I find that the bridges seem to be indestructible. To the point that when I look at them, they begin to disintegrate only to repair themselves immediately.

That's both a pity and a relief.

A pity because it would make for an easy kill, and a relief because I don't want to end up having to cross a bridge myself while worrying about if I'll accidentally destroy it. Assuming I couldn't just fly at the time.

Who knows if my ability to fly might be taken away at some point after all. Like if my wings were cut off.

Also, I can't help but notice that these hunters all have far stronger bodies than the ones from my previous events and the trial. To the point that even my true damage only spreads the crimson cracks slowly across their body.

I could probably stare at them for several minutes before they die.

Guess that's the difference between our levels.

Anyways, I focus on the island as I narrow my eyes.

Please let there be monsters that have powerful sensory skills. Because I really need new skills for sensing things, both with and without my eyes open.

Preferably with my eyes closed though.

Unfortunately neither the MC or the event's description said a word about what type of monsters will be in the event. So I'm just going to have to hope I'm lucky.

I slowly make my way into the forest on the island before running into the first monster.

Which turns out to be some sort of large snake. One spanning several meters in length.

The thing jumps straight out of the bushes and snaps at my leg faster than I can react to it. But after it bites me, some of its mouth begins to mutate thanks to the poison in my body. And if the thing had any venom, it doesn't seem to be doing anything.

"That's because there is no poison stronger than my blood," Chaos answers my unasked question.

Convenient.

My gaze seems to be doing a number on the snake as well judging by the glowing crimson cracks appearing across its body as it hisses at me in anger and backs away. But I don't let it escape as I use that lightning cloak skill to drastically increase my speed and catch up to it before grabbing it with my hand while also using my new Fangs and Claws of the Queen skill to extend my claws. Cutting into the creature's scales without much trouble.

A faint smile stretches across my face as I lift the creature up into the air. Which is a little awkward since its body is so long, making it so that at least half of its body is still on the ground. But whatever.

I don't even have to finish it off with my claws in the end, because the thing dies just from my poison and my looking it in the face. Both of which cause the thing to, well, lose its face. With half of it being mutated and the other half cracking and disintegrating into nothing.

Along with its brain.

Nice, but I did kind of want to test out my claws a bit more.

And at this rate I might as well try using my fangs. Some day.

Maybe.

I have enough skills for my fangs now that it would be a waste not to use them.

Plus my claws and fangs are completely indestructible. Which is the only reason I might want to use them over my swords sometimes.

I still prefer the blades though.

"The blades have more cutting power and can be infused with chaos energy, even if they aren't completely indestructible," Chaos comments. "They are pretty indestructible at your level though, so you shouldn't have to worry about that."

That's good.

I take a moment to read the messages from killing the snake.

{You have been granted 1 Skill Point for killing a monster within the System Event.}

{You have slain a being while Assimilate is active. You have now unlocked the Skill Tree: Sky Forest Serpent}

{You have unlocked a new Skill Tree, therefore the root skill of the Skill Tree, Cloak of the Forest, is now unlocked for your usage.}

{You have been granted 1 Point for killing a monster within the System Event.}

Another cloak?

Out of curiosity I go ahead and check out the skill's description.

{Cloak of the Forest – Automatically makes it harder for others to notice the user when they are within a forest.}

Huh. Guess that's why I didn't notice the serpent before it-

My thoughts cut off when another serpent latches on and bites my other legs.

-bit me…

I glance down at the other serpent that is currently writhing on the ground like the first before I grab it and just crush it with my claws this time.

Why do I feel like this is going to happen a lot here?

"Because it probably will," Chaos says rather dryly.

This is going to be annoying.
