Calling it something so grand as ‘saving the world’ wasn’t technically untrue.

Even if the reason I was doing it wasn’t for such a righteous thing, it couldn’t be denied that that was in fact one of the consequences.

After all, it’s not like I was ever someone who particularly cared about something like that in the first place. Just because I gained some weird position and became strong, doesn’t mean that changed.

From the very beginning, this was just a job, right?

With the nature of things, it’s not like there was any other path it could have gone down.

“I’m going to kill John Pierce. Once I do, please stop climbing the Tower.”

“This is the only way to maintain peace.”

Truthfully, I didn’t expect nor wish for these two to follow along with what they could have only seen as abrupt absurdity from me, accepting everything I said and coming to help me.

I just wanted them to hear what I had to say, even if some, or all of it was admittedly beyond belief.

Still, the fact remained that the core of it was, really, the truth.

If John Pierce didn’t die, the world would end. Irrevocably and imminently.

That was true. Undeniably so.
