Chapter 834: 418: David's Charisma

Chapter 834: Chapter 418: David’s Charisma

Before the media reporters present could discuss too much, Nehem had taken Kang Gua away from the scene.

Due to the arrested being the acting chief of the New York City Police Department, and since it occurred during a live press conference, this news quickly shocked the entirety of New York, turning into a sensational headline across the city.

Manhattan Branch.

A large group of media reporters who had followed had already arrived here to broadcast live.

With this came citizens who expressed their support for Kang Gua.

“Release him, release him!”

“Director Kang Gua is the nemesis of sin in our New York! You, the Internal Revenue Service, cannot arrest him—release him quickly!”

“As soon as Director Kang Gua took office, he achieved significant results in fighting crime, yet you, the IRS, choose now to arrest him. Aren’t you in league with those criminals?”

Besides shouting, many citizens even brought banners and signs to plea for Kang Gua’s innocence.

One can only imagine how deep his earlier speech had resonated to dare these citizens to fearlessly protest in front of the Internal Revenue Service.

Inside the office, facing such a situation, Nehem also felt immense pressure and immediately approached Inspector David, carefully asking, “Inspector David, was our action a bit, a bit reckless? You know, now Kang Gua, because of his crackdown on crime, is very supported by the citizens of New York…”

Despite appearing confident at the press conference, in reality, he had acted on David’s orders to take the man away; he hadn’t understood much about the other details yet. Thus, upon returning to his division and seeing so many people protesting, he felt quite uneasy.

“Don’t worry, Director Nehem, I had you do this for a reason. Here’s what’s going on…”

David explained that what Kang Gua had carried out as a supposed crime-fighting campaign was actually to intimidate the criminals to vote for Stevenson.

After hearing the full explanation, Nehem instantly relaxed and asked, “If that’s the case, then you must have prepared the relevant criminal evidence, right?”

“Of course, otherwise I wouldn’t have let you take action!”

Nehem nodded, then appeared to remember something, adding, “Now, many citizens outside, deceived by Kang Gua, are in uproar. I think it should be Inspector David who comes forward to handle this; otherwise, it will be hard to pacify the public’s anger.”

“I’ll handle this matter shortly. Let me first meet with Kang Gua and talk to him.”

“Hmph, don’t think that just because the IRS has power, you can bully people. I’ll tell you, a city can function without the IRS, but not without us, the police!”

Inside an interrogation room at the Manhattan Branch, Kang Gua appeared domineering.

Facing him, two IRS interrogators were quite annoyed by his statement but momentarily couldn’t find any words to retort.

Although the IRS held great power, the importance of the police within any city was indeed irreplaceable.

If there were no police on the streets in this nation where everyone has a gun, it would likely truly become a river of blood.

“Of course a city can’t function without the police, but it can certainly function without you as the director!”

Just as the atmosphere in the interrogation room grew tense, a voice interrupted, followed by the door opening—David walked in.

“You… you… you…”

Kang Gua, initially curious to see who spoke so boldly, was alarmed the moment he saw the face that was both unfamiliar yet familiar. He immediately stood up from his chair, unconsciously stepping back several steps, his face showing utter fear.

“I’ll take over here.”

“Yes, Inspector David.”

Seeing David arrive, the two previously flustered interrogators breathed a sigh of relief and then turned to leave.

“So, Director Kang Gua, don’t you recognize me, or do I need to introduce myself? Alright then, I shall introduce myself. My name is David, currently serving as the National Chief Tax Inspector at the IRS. Now do you recognize me?”

Kang Gua’s face shifted for a while, then he sat back down, forcing a small smile and said, “Just kidding, Inspector David. Nowadays, who in America doesn’t know you?”

“Good, since you know me, I’ll cut to the chase. I know you’ve been canvassing votes for Senatorial candidate Stevenson. What I want to know is, which officials in New York State support Stevenson, or perhaps support Langman?”

When David decided to take action against Stevenson, he had considered that New York State, being a stronghold for the Freemasonry, had too many officials from the Freemasonry Group.

Even if he eliminated Stevenson and Langman, the competitors, it would still be difficult to support his own candidates for those two seats in the state.

With the Freemasonry’s network cultivated over many years in the state, they certainly had the resources to support two other candidates.

To truly secure the two Senatorial seats in the state, he would first need to destroy the roots the Freemasonry Group had entrenched in various government departments.

And Kang Gua was the first one!

Of course, Kang Gua was also a breakthrough point. Given his position as the acting director of the New York City Police Department, he was certainly able to implicate many others from the same camp.
