Chapter 804: Chapter 403: The Foundation
Payden stared sharply at him and demanded, “Webber, what on earth has happened?”
“I… this… I’m sorry, Mr. President, I had no choice. Please understand!”
Under Payden’s tone, Webber could no longer resist the pressure and reluctantly uttered these words.
“I had no choice!”
Hearing these words, Payden and Wylder exchanged glances.
NAS, an authoritative agency, having no choice? Could it be… Yes!
In recent days, major media had exposed some scandals about NSA, which they hadn’t taken seriously at first.
But now, seeing these people seemingly forced to resign, the result seemed imminent!
Scandals, it seemed, were definitely driven by someone behind the scenes!
Considering these people’s backgrounds with the Illuminati, and how the Freemasonry, Illuminati, and The Big Three Groups had joined forces against David due to the Offshore Tax Avoidance Bill,
The outcome was obvious!
All of this must be related to David!
“Director Edgar, there’s nobody else here, you can tell the President the truth. He will stand by you!”
To get a clearer picture of the situation, Wylder directly turned to Edgar.
Edgar hesitated for a moment and finally sighed, uttering three words: “Yes, it was David’s doing.”
“What, it was really him!”
Now, Payden and Wylder were completely certain.
“Hold on, Director Edgar. Although some negative news about you has been leaked by major media in recent days, that shouldn’t be enough to shake your positions!”
Wylder stated this while casting puzzled looks back and forth at the group.
Edgar and the others exchanged glances, but not one ventured to speak. Surely they couldn’t detail the crimes they had committed and how David had used those as leverage in detail to the President?
“Speak up, have you all become mute?”
Seeing their silence, Payden grew angry.
“Mr. President, what has been exposed is just the tip of the iceberg. David still holds much more over us… I had no choice but to do this, please forgive me!”
“Yes, sir…”
Seeing Payden enraged, the first unable to bear it, both Webber and Gransham reluctantly replied.
“Damn it, one of you is the head of intelligence at NAS, and the other is the deputy director. How could you so easily fall prey to his threats, letting him catch you out? Even if he did catch you in the act, with the power and resources at your disposal, couldn’t you have cleaned up your ‘dirty deeds’?”
Payden was becoming increasingly agitated.
In fact, it was no wonder he was upset. The CIA and FBI were already under David’s control, and with the bill only just passed, he couldn’t afford to fall out with David over this, so he had to bide his time.
But unexpectedly, NSA seemed poised to ‘fall’ as well.
Bear in mind, if even NAS, this intelligence agency, fell into David’s hands, on a lesser scale, this could sideline his presidency.
On a larger scale, wouldn’t all his actions as President then be under constant surveillance?
He was the President, how could he tolerate this!
“Mr. President, as you know, David’s tactics… Even if we handle things cleanly, as long as he gets serious, it’s still hard to escape his clutches…”
“Director Edgar, since you’ve all decided to resign, then who will succeed you?”
Not dwelling further on the resignation, Wylder raised this critical question.
Hearing this, Payden also came out of his angry state.
That’s right, as these people were being forced to resign, the issue of who would succeed them was of utmost importance.
“Mr. President, for my successor, I recommend Strachey Samuel.”
Webber was the first to speak up.
“Strachey?”
Payden directed his gaze towards his chief of staff, Wylder.
“Mr. President, he is a former senior official at the CIA, but…”
Wylder trailed off.
“But what?”
“Apparently, Strachey has close ties with the Kennedy Family!”
Hearing this, Payden’s expression stiffened.
The Kennedy Family had already publicly aligned with David’s camp, and with his man taking over as the head of NSA intelligence, the department would naturally be indirectly controlled by David.
Payden’s gaze turned as he looked at Webber and demanded, “Tell me, Webber, is this the person David told you to nominate?”
“Mr. President, I… I…”
Webber dared not lie, but could not continue.
“And you, Director Edgar, who is your successor?”
Wylder probed.
Forget the NAS intelligence department’s succession for now, figure out who the next NSA director would be.
And so Payden stopped probing, turning his gaze to Edgar.
At this moment, Edgar’s forehead was covered with sweat, but he still didn’t dare to speak a word.
Simply mentioning Strachey had displeased Payden so much.
If he mentioned that someone from the Internal Revenue Service was to parachute into his position, wouldn’t this Payden in front of him explode with rage?
“Speak!”
Payden glared with fury, demanding.
Edgar clenched his fists, gritting his teeth, “Sir, if you must know my candidate for succession, I can only recommend Hena Quintan.”
What do you think?
